On December 14th at 9pm Easter Standard Time we are going to have a trivia contest. For over an hour we are going to be giving you the opportunity to win a ton of stuff from Holley and it’s subsidiaries. To win, all you have to do is be the first person to correctly answer a question in the live-feed comment box. The questions will come from the last four episodes of Finnegan’s Garage. We've never really done a good video about David Newbern's 1971 Chevy Nova, which we call The Attempted Murder Nova, but that all changes today. The car got the name as a joke because it's nowhere near as fast as Shawn Ellington's Murder Nova, nor does it have similar race parts. Recently, though, the car received some serious upgrades when we journeyed to Florida to buy Steve Shaw's Toyota Mini-Truck and LS race engine. You can see that video in Episode 115 of Finnegan's Garage.
Newbern took the mystery LS and swapped it into his Nova, replacing the old 454 that was under the hood. In this video we are going to dyno test the engine, hit it with nitrous oxide for the first time, and then head to Paradise Dragstrip in Calhoun, Georgia, for a grudge race with fellow CZcamsr Emilie Reeves or Flying Sparks Garage. She has a really cool GTO with a supercharged LS engine and its a stickshift, which is super cool because we love stick cars and Newbern's Nova has a stick, too.

Dude. This was so fun to watch! The first half brought me back to my good ol' days; hanging out with my friends in frozen garages in Montana, wrenchin' on '57 Chevys and '70s Camaros and that crazy little '72 Capri that must've broken a dozen axles. All while cracking jokes and giving each other crap. And the second half at the track was just more of the same! Smiles and laughter and that good feeling you get down deep in your stomach that you only get with the noises and smells and electricity of being at the track. Thanks, Mike!

That Holley Dominator looks awesome on the LS engine. I got to meet both David Newbern and Brian Lohnes in Las Vegas November 2019. I did not confuse the two. Great video! I love the Attempted Murder Nova. It's going to do awesome trailer burnouts now! Reminds me of the '73 Nova my brother used to have. His was black with flames on it.

Don't often comment on these, but I thoroughly enjoyed this vid! A bunch of mates talking crap whilst tuning their buddy's car. Newbern's reaction after that first run on the bottle was priceless. Just as an interesting point of reference as to how quick Newbern’s H pattern stick shift Nova ran: In 1970 the first NHRA national Pro Stock race was held at the Winternationals. Top qualifier was Ronnie Sox at 10.00, followed by the Grump at 10.08. The final spot was held by Sam Auxier Jr at 10.49. Newbern’s 1/8th mile time of 6.63 converts to a 1/4 mile time of approximately 10.35 so congrats Mr Newbern, you just qualified for the1970 Pro Stock field. BTW, you bested Bob Glidden, Butch Leal, Reid Whisnant, Herb McCandless, and Hubert Platt who all failed to qualify. 👍

Having a buddy and an employer like Finn would be the greatest job opportunity IN THE WORLD (like Clarkson says it). To be able to afford to live and own and play with hotrods, would be amazing! Like "most" I just exist, these guys are living. Most go to work, pay bills and go back to work to pay more bills. Maybe, I'm doing something wrong? 2 more kids to left in our nest.. After they fly off, I hope we're not to old and beat to pull the trigger on a cool build.. I'm genuinely happy for ya and currently have a great big grin on my face!

The Attempted Murder Nova is a lot more serious car than I think any of us thought! Anything that pulls that hard and is still controllable is awesome! Kudos to Newbern for making not only the fastest ride of his life , but one of the best rides! Miss Emily is no mean piker- she will look to get hers back! I hope the next meet up is as much fun- and I hope Cotten's stamina will take another Worm! That was awesome all by itself- maybe awesomer than that! Merry Christmas to Georgia! And Texas!
Here is a fun nitrous story: I decided to spray out of the hole on a car I drove to the track... yeah. It dead hooked and twisted the rear end straight up destroying itself, the driveshaft, trans, and converter. I had a big day. Anyway, I called for backup and had a buddy bring his trailer. After we drug the car off the track with floorjack (wouldn't roll) and got it back on the trailer, buddy #2 says, "Hey! You did remember to turn the bottle off, right?" at which I decided to prove it to him by hitting the activation button on the shifter. Oops, just pumped the shut off motor full of nitrous. No, biggie right? I turned the bottle off as well as the key. Car is broke and heading back to the shop and it's an hour away. We get the car unloaded at the shop and the owner says, "You probably zinged the motor pretty hard when the rearend broke, huh? May as well fire the car up and make sure you don't need a motor too!" Great idea, huh? I got in the car, switched on the ignition and before it could even turn over... >>>> BANG!

Also please more from Mo's maybe an episode going and seeing whats at their shop but def more videos there! I love what you guys do, it gives me inspiration to go and work on my car. It's a 92 Grand Marquis and i love it. It's not fast, it doesn't handle great and is kinda sketchy. Dude I know this is an old video but I've got to watch the build of that nova. I've been a manual trans guy since I was six years old 44 years ago. I just watched you leave the line in that thing! I want my truck to leave like that ... Of course Newburg would have to be behind the wheel but wow what a setup! I just have to convince Mama it will give us better gas mileage and pay itself off in a year. Wish me luck.
