Steph Curry & Andrew Bogut - Chemistry

  • During Steph Curry’s first three years in the NBA, he had three different head coaches. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that isn’t ideal for continuity. By his fourth year, there was more stability, but more importantly, the 2012 season brought Andrew Bogut to the Bay. The Australian’s arrival meant there was a big target Steph could throw to, but he quickly learned it wasn’t a one way street. Bogut, one of the game’s great passing bigs, could create (somewhat) for Steph. They began to play off of each other and found chemistry. Three years later, the all-defensive second team center, and the league MVP, have helped guide Golden State to their first title in 40 years.
    If you’re a fan of Golden State or just enjoy good basketball, watching today’s Warriors is easy. Watching Steph’s Warriors during his rookie year was not. Yes, they had a few holdovers from the “We Believe” Dubs, but Don Nelson’s final year of coaching was less than ideal. The years that followed were not great either, but one thing that has always been fun to watch is Steph. His craftiness and quick trigger has been evident since day 1. When Bogey arrived, his chemistry with the creative center doubly so.
    To see Bogut and Curry run the give and go is gratifying, in that it is so seamless. Between the pair’s performance of beautiful basketball, there’s an inherent understanding of where the other will be. Curry is an all-world point guard, but he’s arguably the game’s greatest shooter, so playing him off the ball makes him even more dangerous. The historic season was defined by dominant defense and brilliant ball movement, but an important cog in the Dubs magnificence was the peerless point guard with the supreme stroke, being able to tilt the defense off the ball, and their massive maestro, being able to pick out the perfect pass to him. Whether you’re trying to jump on the bandwagon, or a die hard believer (congratulations if you are by the way, y’all deserve it), it’s important to understand that Steph and Bogey have one of the premier partnerships in the entire league.
    If you liked this, my channel has both Steph and Bogut individual passing reels, so check em out.

    I'm gonna miss watching these two warriors team from 14-15 and 15-16. The chemistry, ball movement, and joy those guys played with was just awesome. Bogut was one of my favorite players from that team because of his passing, screen setting, and rim protection. Literally the perfect center for that team, all he didn't have was a jump shot.

    • @EvinGualberto
      @EvinGualberto  Před 7 lety +7

      Chandler Hamilton I 100% agree. Elite rim defender, special decision maker, solid (if sometimes illegal) screen setter, and he was one of the first guys to just run back before a three was even put up by Steph or Klay because he was so confident that they were gonna make it. The Warriors are different now and the joy is not the same as it used to be. I really miss Bogut on the Dubs and I hope that if he does get moved, it's to somewhere that can contend.

    • @chandlerhamilton3208
      @chandlerhamilton3208 Před 7 lety +2

      As good as the Warriors still are, I almost feel they're too talented for their own good. Sure they'll win a lot of games, but I'm not all that confident they'll win a bunch of championships. I used to really love this team and they had such perfect chemistry. Steph was THE guy, Klay the perfect player to put next to him, Draymond the ultimate defensive player and playmaker, and they still would've possibly been able to keep Barnes and let his game grow (mind you, they drafted literally their entire core of players, which is so rare). I really looked at this team as the next great culture/team of the forseeable future. Sure they'll be great with Durant, but it's just not nearly the same.

    • @EvinGualberto
      @EvinGualberto  Před 7 lety +5

      Chandler Hamilton I agree. I actually think they've taken a few steps back in terms of continuity because they're not as deep, and Durant wants the ball in ISO situations rather than maybe getting the ball inside and splitting the post, or the patented Draymond/Steph pick and roll.
      They'll likely win if they don't drive each other up the wall (although for my money, I'll still take Cleveland if things remain as they are by season's end), but yeah...the magic isn't there like it was. Chemistry makes up for a lot of things, and the Warriors got better on paper, but they lost a lot of what made them special, especially off-court.

      Yeah you won't see the so-called dominant centers making passes like that. He is really one of the most well-rounded centers in the league. He can definitely pass, he can shoot (some games he shows his range), he can defend, and he's light on his feet. The passing aspect is underrated imo because if your center is getting double-teamed, they should pass it out instead of trying to do too much and go up with it. He takes advantage of the sharp-shooters on the outside. He's also more mobile than most centers in that he keeps the ball moving, puts his teammates in good scoring position, unlike your traditional center who will hand the ball off and then go stand under the basket. He moves like a forward not so much a center.

    If Bogut didn't have the injuries he had over his career, he had the talent to be an all time great. Even with them he had 13 seasons in the NBA, a championship, all defensive 2nd team, lead the league in blocks. Speaks for itself really, legend of Australian basketball, never gave up....left when it suited him.
