Steph Curry - Pick & Roll Passing

  • Steph Curry is an offense unto himself. There is nothing he cannot do on the basketball court. As a shooter, Steve Nash calls him “the greatest there’s ever been.” I won’t be the one to argue against that, especially when you account for his immaculate percentages compared to the difficult shots he takes. He’s as such a crafty finisher, using either hand and every conceivable angle to score. Start a conversation about who has the league’s best handle? Steph is either the best in the league or falls to just second after Kyrie Irving. You need him to get you an offensive board? It’s not as automatic as his jump shot, but Dwight Howard will never forget the moment he was outworked and outmuscled by someone 6’3’’. Great as all that is, it’s his passing that I’m focusing in on today.
Coming out of Davidson, I wasn’t the only one who saw Steve Nash in him. Unsurprising, considering Steph has stated many times that he’s studied and modeled aspects of his game after the Canadian. I was mesmerized watching rookie Steph, in that bluish-orange-ish jersey, making the same reads (with as much creativity) as Nash made. Six seasons later, he’s the Most Valuable Player in the NBA.
His passing is perfection. Sometimes he tries something almost over the top with it’s fanciness that it looks bad, but that’s only when you see it out of context. For Steph, everything comes in the flow of the offense. When you watch him, every move he makes on the court just feels right. Alvin Gentry and Steve Kerr have used a hybrid system to unleash Curry’s unlimited offensive game onto the league, but at the heart of it, if you put Steph in a pick and roll situation, defenses will tremble. Yes, there’s a lot of action before the screen is even set, and there is a lot of weak-side activity, but a Steph Curry-anyone pick and roll is poison. Left handed crosscourt hooks, a pocketpass in the tightly packed lane, a behind the back in one direction after tilting the defense in the opposite, and even just releasing to the short roll when teams blitz, are all passes Steph readily and easily makes. He’s the MVP and the best shooter in the world, but when you couple that with his unselfishness and absurd passing ability, there is literally nothing you can do to stop him.
You might notice that there's a large Australian suspiciously absent here, but that's because Steph Curry to Andrew Bogut & vice versa is so integral to the Warriors offense that I decided it should get it's own video. That one is linked here: • Steph Curry & Andrew B...
Also, if you want to see an early video of mine, focusing on Steph ability to pass with his off-hand, here you go: • Steph Curry - Lefty Dimes

We are so accustomed to Curry making good decisions, especially at key moments, that we take his playmaking for granted. His assist numbers are never gaudy, but he makes the offense go, night after night. Especially the way that he draws defenders, opening up opportunities for teammates. Paul, Wall and Westbrook may have higher assist numbers, but they don't attract double and triple teams the way Curry does...

AZSecondCity I hope my Lakers use Brooke Lopez (Stretch-5) in the role of Draymond Green.
Julius Randle hates being compared to Draymond Green.
He wants to BANG with the tuff guys.
Leave this Finesse Big (3-point Shooting)stuff to Brooke Lopez, 134---3-pointers.

Lonzo Ball (Lakers) can do this, just needs a Klay Thompson-type 3-pointer threat, so the defense won't drop off their man & clog the paint.

No he cant lol, well not as often. The 2nd defender always has to play curry close cuz of his shot so it makes everything else a little easier

These are some of the most ILLEGAL picks I've seen. Picking players moving while picking and not setting a standing pick, stepping OUT as to try to trip the ball handler's defender, pushing off, and other things that are just blatantly against the rules and, of course, officials turning a blind eye to that because, well, they want to see Curry go on to win.
0:04, Bogut sets a pick, then takes steps while picking, MOVING
0:16, Lee steps out and Bogut sticks out his butt, BOTH while setting a pick, MOVING
0:44 Thompson's foot is OUT to trip and then slides his left foot, MOVING
    1:14 Green moves while picking.
I'm already tired of looking at these things and that's just within the first 1.5 minutes
This is just my opinion based on what the rules are. Your mileage might vary based on your bias.
I'd call these on my own team, too, because I wouldn't want us to win by cheating this badly.
