  • In this video I show you how to camouflage paint your scope (or rifle or any other hunting gear) using spray paint and a sponge.
I also show you how you can repaint / redo an old paint job by sanding it first, and prepping it for paint.
I have made lots of mistakes in this video so I also show you how you can fix them and hopefully you can avoid making those mistakes in the future.
I think using a sponge is very good for many reasons, it creates nice patterns and you can create really cool designs, it's easy and pretty fast, you avoid the chances of messing it up because you are not actually spraying, and you can fix mistakes you made with other techniques. You can also custom blend the colors you want, you're not relying on the standard colors.
I hope you like this video, please let me know what you think, and thank you for watching!

It turned out really well and the nicest thing about doing camo this way you can touch it up in the field if needed

Thank you so much! And you're right about the touch up, if it gets a little scratched in a few years, I don't need to sand it off and start all over, just quickly touch it up.

I like the techniques. From a color theory perspective it needs some love. Lots of blue in the original layers and that carried through. I would like to see more brown, black, and possibly a dark red to tone down the green.

Thank you. And yes you're absolutely right about the colors. I just didn't want to keep adding 😊, but yes, some brown or even red would make it better.

Did you use some sort of a clear finish on top of the other finish? Some times when you mix different brands of paint they will bubble or it is put on too thick without drying the different layers first . Excellent video as usually, very informative , you are very creative and good luck hunting.

Thank you. I used a clear finish and made sure it was the same brand and all new paint.
The paint didn't bubble. I remember you telling me this a long time ago and kept it in mind.
But, I don't think it will bubble with using the sponge. I mean the top layer could, the clear but I think that could be put on with the sponge as well.

If you want to use a net, you can hold it in place by clipping it tight. I use cheap clothes pins and laundry bags. Pull the laundry bag tight and clip it to itself at the bottom of the scope.

Yes I did that, I held it in place, or taped it down but I don't think it's going to work with the sponge the same way it does just spraying on it.

Life is to short to hunt with a ugly gun.
A laundry net from the dollar store works well for me.
