- In this video I show how I made a latex mask of Boris Karloff as The Monster from the 1931 movie FRANKENSTEIN. The video is 1 our and 40 minutes long, so have some popcorn ready. I cover everything from the sculpture, to mold making, to casting the latex, painting the mask, hairing the mask. Enjoy!

I never thought I'd ever say this, but you put Don Post & Trick or Treat studios to shame.
Truth!
I've never looked better!!! Bravo good Sir! You are modern day Monster Michaelangelo!
Wow there’s nothing like watching someone whose a master of their craft. This was brilliant. I’m not even a huge Frankenstein fan and I want one! Haha
It’ll take me a while to get through this tutorial bc it’s so long, but so far it’s helped me to understand that there really aren’t any time constraints on clay and shaping the mask. I was concerned that clays would harden and the “heads” would have to be done in one sitting before the clay dried out.
Two hours later I haven’t stopped watching. I made it through the whole process. I just couldn’t stop. It’s incredibly fascinating and you’re so good at explaining all the steps. I particularly enjoyed the hairing. Whenever I do a Myers mask it looks like Tina Turner for a day and then when I brush it out I lose about 30% and then it all comes together after styling.
Thank you very much for sharing.
Nice work I trying to start doing my self. I'm 52 need a hobby looks like this is something I would love doing
The Boris Karloff monster has a special place in my heart. I was seven years old when I watched my first monster movie with my dad. That movie was the 1931 version of Frankenstein.
By far the best mask video I’ve seen. Frank is amazing
WOW ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. YOU DEAR SIR ARE TRULY THE BEST I HAVE EVER SEEN. I DON'T THINK I COULD DRINK THAT MUCH COFFEE 😂 ☕ I HAVE TO SAY AGAIN, YOU ARE THE ABSOLUTE BEST. GOD BLESS YOU.
This is really incredible, I have always loved masks and always dreamed of sculping and making my own. I'm always watching videos of processes, and the individual innovation always blows me away.
Most beautiful thing ever
No lie, but you have made the best looking Frankenstein Monster ever. Topstone, Travelers, Ben Cooper, Collegeville, Illisive Concepts, Rubies, and Trick or Treat Studios have all made Frankenstein Monster masks, but NONE of them truly captured the likeness of Boris Karloff. Well done, I would love to see your version of Dracula.
I make rubber masks too, the best part is the peeling away the mask from the mold.
Thank you! I've done a new Dracula but I didn't make a video. If you go to my Instagram you can see it. Turk Monster Masks on Instagram is my account.
Thank you so much for these videos, man. I appreciate all the time you put into these to better help me understand the processes. Definitely a channel I’d recommend to anyone.
This is the best looking Frankenstein's Monster mask I've ever seen. Nice work!!!
Very cool, great video. Thanks
Wonderful job , hope it’s ok to say but your voice reminds me of Dick Smith and I got all nostalgic… I miss him so much.
Brilliant
Looks awesome!

Brother, you are so good at your craft. Exceptionally done. I want to reach your level some day. I am getting my first kit from monster makers soon to begin. Thank you for sharing
Compelling watch! Learned so much from this. Thank you.
I'm curious about how you can see out of the mask when worn. Do you cut slits over the eyelids?
I have the licenses trick or treat studios Frank mask it's totally Awesome.
Que buenas Obras de Arte...un saludo artista desde Callao Perú
Thank you so much
Wow fantastic jod wow horror masks nice perfect
This is a great video! Thanks for posting it! Can you explain the purpose of the spray bottle (water??)when you are applying the painted on layer of latex? Thank you!
nightshades are Justin Mabrys paints the same ways as bloodlines is Tim Gores.
I wish I was artistic like that. I have always been insanely jealous of sculptors.
Thanks to share your process man! Please what kind of hair you use?
Great video! Gorilla glue tip. After you push out what you need pull back on the black plunger, it will stop the ooze.
Nice vid ! :D i really like to watch other artists & check out their techniques .Im old scool , with the plaster /latex , like yourself, as opposed to silicone/ fiber-resins . I watch Allen Hopps a lot , as he,s as tidy an artist as myself. You are very tidy . Im an ol 3 coat guy. 1 coat on the prop , 1 coat on the floor , & 1 coat on myself. Thanks !
Amazing video! WHat kind of latex do you use? It looks much lighter and foamier than the one i have
Great video! Very inspired to make one. Been wanting to try and make one...we shall see how it goes. I may have missed it but how many pour/layer did you do for the latex? And how long do you have to wait between each pour/layer? Thank you!
Are you selling any latex masks from this mold ? This is best one ive seen and would love to purchase a mask if possible
Just found this video amazing. Is there anyway you could provide a list or links for someone who wants to do this? I just dont know where to start. What type of clay is used for the head and is it different from what your walls are made from?
Great Job! Only real difference I notice is the shape of the ears especially its earlobes. . Still another wonder mask you have created!
@@IndieCabaretNYC I'm the definition of "lazy " when it comes to my projects.
I'm always wanting to rush to complete it when I should back away for a day.
You do some great work Sir.
Hey bud, nice video.
Regarding the hair, do you buy it in strands or are they glued together in strips? Where can I buy hair that is bunched like the ones you use?
Great job! What kind of hair do you use if you don't mind me asking? Thank you
I am a huge Frankenstein fan. Could I purchase this mask from you?
Great work as always. Thanks for the video, I picked up a few tips and tricks to use on my next sculpt. Question, what are the scissors you used to trim the flashing? My hand hurts after trimming with cuticle scissors. I would like to pick up a pair of the ones you used in the video.
Thanks, order has been placed.
@@IndieCabaretNYC hey hey do you have Facebook or an email I have a few questions for you?
this is a greatstep by step tutorial, your mask kingdom also look badass, also im wondering who is in the picture on the left with the wierd eye, looks like jason on 39:10
what speed do you typically use on the Dremel ? how do you get zero percent pressure and still blow the latex paint through the airbrush?
Good job !!!…but how can you wear it ?
Thats a cool work but I'm courious if its possible to see anything through this mask? How is this problem solved?
Next Glen Strange?
What kind of latex did you use?
💚💚💚
Excellent representation. Question.... Was this made for display only, or was it intended to be worn? Just curious as to how one would see through this without eye slits or holes. Very clean mold making and casting though- very impressed.
I was wondering the same thing.
Once you've made your sculpture, how does the clay that seperates the two halves of the mold not stick to the clay of the sculpter. It's always puzzled me
Can I ask why wouldnt you use a shade to show the contrast ? Thanks
Where do you get your paints? I know you said it in the video but I can’t seem to find them. Thank you in advance!
I have a question, I have a few latex mask that slip over the head but have no latex for the neck, I would like to add necks to these mask, what would be the best way to do that?
Lots of Frankenstein masks have been made very few if any Bride of Frankenstein masks that's the monster mask you should have made. Burnt off hair and showing all the scars and clamps.
That's beautiful Do you sell them lol or this one?
What’s kind of clay did you use for this sculpt?
Fantastic piece
WED
Hi again, did you use the Nightshades black for that watery wash you did or generic black paint?
I didn't had any idea how long process for a mask like that was
How much it could cost?
I got the Halloween mask long ago for a hundred and I felt already expensive!
Are you selling any latex mask like this one would love to buy one
DUDE ! I WANT ONE ! You selling them ?
Great work! I wish you hadn't skipped over so much, though.
No PAX or adhesion promoter for your base coat?
So I am asking this question as I'm watching your video. Are you making the monster from the original Frankenstein or from the Bride of Frankenstein. I noticed you had two different pictures. I have never seen a mask from the Bride which is my favorite because his hair is singed and has burns in his face
Hi how much would it cost to buy one of these Frankenstein masks from you please
🤔🤔🤔 how much do you charge to sculpt a person ?
I love how he's looking at the camera at 1:28:55 😂
How much does that mask sell for
Do you offer this mask as a wearable option ???
What is this app called
He's looking at you like that cause he's got a stiff neck LOL that rod has got to be uncomfortable for him :)
good video, but you skipped way to much like the mould making part which is important for us to see?
No licenses needed?
Why u put only 1 metal band on head. He has 2?
in the photo reference from the film he has one.
Do people make money out of this?
