    The reason these Casefile podcasts are so good is that they put the victims at the forefront. And that would include David Smith. I mean the poor guy possibly saved further children from dying. Fantastic work guys.

    How is everybody's problem with David and Maureen? Did I doze off and miss something? He was basically lured to a murder scene and had to lie his way out in order to not get killed himself and if it wasn't for him none of these murders would have come to light. He should have been given the key to the city and an award from the queen. People are truly idiotic

    I love how Hindley denied several of the murders, even to her own family, but then when Brady decided to confess she suddenly was just *so* overcome that she needed to be hospitalized and put on tranquilizers! But then, once the cat was out of the proverbial bag, she quickly jumped on the bandwagon and, supposedly, became even *more* remorseful and willing to help the police identify burial sites.
    IMHO, at least, this just shows that her claims of being a changed woman filled with remorse were most likely simply desperate bids to evoke sympathy (especially in prison reform advocates like Lord Longford) and gain release from prison. She seemed to be a very canny, savvy woman who was willing to do and say whatever she thought would be most helpful at gaining public sympathy and eventual release from prison. But I have to note that once she got her nice holiday from prison to the moors, she claimed to not remember anything really helpful. But my impression is that despite her ostensible change of heart, it was like pulling teeth to get her to actually make a anything resembling a full confession. And, even then, she was never entirely truthful, and seems to have refused to take full responsibility for her actions, and instead blamed Brady for being some sort of Svengali who controlled her actions.
    That said, I do genuinely believe that if she had never met Brady, she likely would never have murdered anyone.

  • @Madmen604
    @Madmen604 Před 3 lety +7

    I think Hindley dissociated from her participation in the murders. That's how she coped, in a kind of internal denial.
    It is revealing of her character that when her dad told her to hit the guy who bullied her in school, she went right ahead and beat him up.
    Similarly, when Brady told her that murdering those kids was somehow OK, she went along with it. Although Brady groomed her for the role over time. Brady was a psychopath, no question. Hindley, I dont know.
    Maureen also had problems, compounded by the murders.
    They grew up with extreme violence and abuse from their father. That usually damages children in one way or another.

    • @belladonna5904
      @belladonna5904 Před 2 lety +1

      Hindley was also a psychopath, I would say just as bad as Brady, just less of a dominant personality. But she enjoyed the same depravities and lacked emotion during the desecration of the bodies. Also, she displayed many sociopathic traits. Changing like a chameleon to fit whatever Brady wanted, her morals shapeshifted like water, depending on who she was with. All she cared about was her public image.

    • @belladonna5904
      @belladonna5904 Před 2 lety +3

      Hindley is very manipulative. She's more outgoing than Brady, and more concerned with others perception of her. She lies a lot as well. She carefully curates events to look like she was just there for the ride, and not enjoying the murders and assaults on children as much as Brady...but if you look at everything and read etween the lines, she enjoyed her crimes and was not remorseful for them...only acting remorseful to maintain her well crafted public persona of a 'good girl" as helpful. Her sentiments are hollow, all it was is a performance. If it wasn't Brady, it would have been another man. The fact that she was so willing to punch out a kid and asked her father to teach her tells you that she is easily influenced, but without a conscience. And that makes her even more dangerous.

    @bilindalaw-morley161 Před měsícem +1

    The fact that the three life sentences were ordered to be served concurrently, not consequentially, baffles me.
    It would have made moot of any plans by the POS to apply for parole; it would have reassured the victims' families that their tragic losses were respected, and would have meant that nobody could doubt that Hindley and Brady would die in prison.
    I know that "whole of life" sentences are rare in England, but there must have been a lot of concern since hanging had so recently been abolished. After all, the law changed in the interval between murders and arrests, and the trial commencement. I'd think there must have been a lot of public frustration about that.
    I am also gob smacked that the POS were allowed to correspond at all. They used a primative and basic code to sexually arouse each other that was not discovered until Hindley spoke about it, after 6+ years of writing. That demonstrates that it was not permitted in the hope of them sharing memories. That would be the only excuse, imo--that authorities were extremely watchful because they hoped for details about the other murders, and where those victims were buried.

    Regarding the funeral of Maureen.. while Ann and John's father did appear and assault a woman it wasnt the police who tackled him. It was the friends and family of the woman he assaulted. He got the s**t beat out of him.
    And Ann did NOT rip up any card because she was taken away at the same time Kilbride was being tackled. She stood by screaming like a lunatic bevause she knew she was about to get her junkie behind whooped too. She was escorted out alongside him.
    She lied constantly in order to make money from the papers. She told magazines she looked Myra in the eye at the funeral despite the home secretary and warden stating Myra did not attend the funeral. Even when confronted with this she continued to lie.
    Read the book her son Terry wrote. Ann was a mentally ill drug addict who neglected her children and only cared about money. Her "partner" who continues to jump on any documentary where he can pretend to be Leslie's father (he knew her less than a year) got with another crazy woman after Ann died. She was responsible for the deaths of Ann's son and granddaughter because she set the family house on fire. Alan, upon hearing of the fire and deaths, was more concerned with his dog.

      @user-gt8uf3nd9i yes, Maureen was assaulted by Ann while 9 months pregnant. For years Ann continued to trash her and David despite the fact that they stopped the murders and are the reason she was able to give Leslie a proper burial.
      Sadly Maureen and David did turn to drugs and alcohol to cope. They were tormented by people who believed Ann that they were involved in the murders.
      Ann on the other hand was already a drug addict and alcoholic before Leslie's murder. She was a biker chick who hung with a rough crowd, which is how she met Alan.
