This was inevitable because it was a race. The all wood crank works, but it'll never be able to handle what Morgan was doing to his bike. It needs a little more reinforcement, and a set of pedals so their feet don't slip off.

my friends dad did this years and years ago. like 20 years ago lol. he could make anything from wood. i remember trying the wooden bike and didnt notice any real difference other than bumpy as hell. then again i was a child at time so probs looked and felt better than it was.

I live in the netherlands and I can confirm that everybody at least has 1 bike for themselves.
That actually is not that impressive when you consider the lifestyles of people. In Canada - Like I own 3 bicycles (and I am only a bit into bicycling). Right now in my 4 person family, who arent bicycle people, we have 5 bicycles. And I have a bicycle family friend that lived on my parents street who were 4 people that had about 15 bicycles. The garage looked similar to Morgans dads in the video. In Canada we probably have nearly 1 bicycle per person (if I had to guess, I'd say 0.98-0.99 bicycles per person) and way more people.
My favorite thing is when Will says "Oh hey Michael" and the subtitles wrote it out as "Oh hey micro" and I think it's more accurate that way. Sick burn, closed captioning.

Couple of thoughts i had while watching, if you ever happen to see this comment. You could make the shaft a little too big for the hole in the drive gear, use steam on the gear, fit the shaft through and let it return to room temp and dry, bam those part aren't going anywhere. Shortening those pedals a bit might help, the shorter lever length and the load being forced to stay closer to the fulcrum should reduce the stress on the dowel, at least a little. It'd be interesting to try to find a way to "lock in" in some way so you didn't have to worry about slipping off, I know from experience it's almost impossible to pedal with round pedals. Smaller wooden bearings would seem fairly necessary for an actual pedal, but i'm sure they'd be incredibly difficult if not impossible to make/able to stand up to the forces. Love this idea, I'm impressed it worked so well!

If you ever do it again you can have T formed pedal with a little hole a little under the - in T, so you use the (l) in T as (ground/gravity pull ) and the - to stand on

CNC is like the duct tape of design. You can use it for anything
if your cnc is precise enough, yes, I was planing to use one for making the rocker arms for my old truck till I found some second hand ones.

CNC is a tool that can do crazy curves and depths, completely automatically, and very accurately
but
More often then not,
using hand and manual tools will be faster, have a lower reject rate, and easier then using CNC for any one off project.
Reason being, manual tools have less steps between design and production, and every step you add you add a place where something can go horribly wrong
Great for high production however.
Semi CNC is the duct tape of the machining world.
Cnc: people think it's magic and frequently misuse it, especially when unfamiliar with more conventional methods of fabrication. Just like duct tape.
