  • Hi guys! I had a sprinkler zone (multiple sprinklers) that won't shut off. For this particular zone I replaced the solenoid and that didn't work, so my next step was to clean out the zone valve. Super easy! Promise.
Watch this video if you need that sprinkler zone fixed and to learn how to clean your sprinkler valve. Thanks for watching :)

This is a good video. Thanks. You should probably put a little clip of the station successfully turning on after you did this. Usually when I do stuff like this I'll go flip the switch and nothing happens. 😂

again a dude, not a lady. Couple comments: my values have 4 bolts and no spring on the diaphragm. I took apart the valve that wouldn't shut off, rinsed the diaphragm and when I went to put it back together found out that one of the bolt nuts had fallen out from under the valve, so I couldn't tighten bolt (thus it leaked). So I turned off water, manually held bolt under valve, then was able to screw into nut and no leaks. Zone 4 fixed! thanks for the video!

Zone 1 was running and I could barely detect it from feeling water running. Best to look at the color of the wire that is in Zone 1 of the controller. Then find that color on the solenoid. I pulled up the diaphragm and there was about tablespoon of sand in it. Replaced the diaphragm and solenoid and it still didn't work. That's when I began digging with a spoon under the valve to replace the entire thing. All in all it took about 8 hours because I am slow and I stripped the heads of 2 screws. The box is really too small for 4 valves and the box was nearly impossible to remove due to tree roots that had grown around and into and the pipes run through holes in the box. As it was I had to use a reciprocating saw to cut the side that zone 1 was up against. No doubt the diaphragm was the problem and I probably damaged the bottom half of the valve trying to get the stripped screw heads out.

Would a bad solenoid cause the valve to not close ? So what’s happening is I can get it open and get the sprinklers in zone 4 to come on and run but then I’m they don’t shut off from the controller and I have to run back and shut off the water at the valve . I took apart the valve and cleaned it up but still seems to do it

  • @memimer

To determine which valve connected to this zone. Feeling the solenoid didn't help me but when the zone was active, that pipe FROM the valve was colder that the others (due to cold water flowing through it)

that's awesome that you did all that tells me you're a go getter but there is an easier way to swap a diaphragm AND properly flush the valve without all that hard work while keeping the water out of the valve box. And everything can be done in under 15 minutes - use the Service Buddy which is sold at the sprinklersupplystore.com there is a video "How to flush your sprinkler valve with Service Buddy". I urge you to view the video or on youtube "how to properly flush a sprinkler valve" for $20 its a game changer and the Service Buddy can be used over and over well worth the money
