All I kept thinking about when Alice was on screen was that Brittany Murphy would’ve played that character if this was made in the late 90’s. I liked the movie. I didn’t love it but I had fun watching it.

The opening kiss reminded me of this one sleazy poster almost all the straight freshman bros at my “upper middle class” uni had in their dorm rooms so I was immediately transported to a very specific culture. Y’all are around my age so you might remember the poster I’m talking about cause it was everywhere! Idk if that was an intentional reference but it immediately gave the film big creep energy and I wish they’d leaned more into that vibe instead of letting it fizzle out to silly shenanigans.
I feel mixed about it. Idk, I like that they are not really trying to be a scary movie. It's like something you might see in real life except in a worst case scenario?

Just watched the movie...I couldn't care less about all the angst and butchering going on by the savage "teens" (?)...Just wanted to know who in the end killed Pete Davidson's character. BEST SURPRISE ENDING THAT I NEVER SAW COMING !!!!!!!! The expressions on the faces of the two remaining characters are also priceless!
Great review! I really enjoyed the movie, though I know it's difficult to get into a movie where the characters aren't so likable, so I understand how this can be annoying sometimes. Really digging your new intro/closing themes! 🙂

I might have to watch (stream) solely for Lee Pace; the rest sounds like it was unimpressively lifted from a season two episode of Only Murders in the Building. Thank you for your always entertaining reviews, Joseph and Nick!
In 'Dramedy' review Nick said: the mechanics of it are so *frustrating* because nobody's *communicating* as they should. Loved how the heart of the story is lost! Definitely going to like both of you digging into this 'horror-comedy' :D
I really dug the cinematography and score, I think I wanted more of a classic murder mystery, in that it felt like everyone could have done it, but I didn't mind the gag
It looked pretty good to me by the trailers. Like how they didn't show barley anything, most trailers spoil the whole film. If you have seen the move, is it worth it to see? All I've seen are positive reviews

The actress who portrayed character Jordan acted well in this movie to me. I felt this movie is decent but was very silly on why would I care about these wealthy, irritating characters.

Agree with everything Joseph says on this. Apart from the Scooby Doo part. Scooby is way smarter and entertaining. I didn’t finish it sounds like I didn’t miss much. A waste of good actors (Apart from Pete D, I’m based in the UK so I don’t understand the appeal).

I watched it as a satire all around about classism and a reflection of millennial generation perspective of the world. It worked for me. Even the integration of the TicTock music. Thought the ending was the right one for this story and I really enjoyed it. 3 1/2 stars for me.

As a zillennial I loved this movie. Felt like a swift kick to gut for how phone dependent and paranoid our generation is. Doing all the coke, Molly & hard liquor just fed into the delusion of a killer. It was hilarious because they were all narcissists and still pushed this performative activism for personal PR reasons. To me, it was a social satire meets a Greek tragedy.
I agree with Joseph in the fact that the first hour until the final four was left was slow. I was bored...like how do you make this premise boring. It needed to be druggier, more violent, trendier, sharper in its humor and more macabre. I was hoping it'd have a Heathers vibe. But I also agree with Nick bc I did like it. :-) When they showed the bodies in the full light of day the next morning, I thought that actually looked quite disturbing. I loved the end and laughed the hardest then. It was fitting to think all this chaos came from this weird dumb drama dynamic that these people have with each other.

the game reminds me of the Son of Sam game from Only Murders in the Building...my family plays a version of this in a circle called Mafia. Its a great time especially if you know the people in the group.

I came back after just watching this and I was so disappointed. It felt like the longest 90 minutes ever. The stand out for me was the actress from Shiva Baby. That's the only good thing I can say about it. 😆
Everybody in the group are supposed to be in their 20's except Lee Pace's character. They are in their 20's in real life also. Not confusing. Most of the actresses are 26 now and Pete is 28 now. The youngest is 23. Lee Pace is one of the girls much older boyfriends. Just about every review mentions that.
I'm glad to see somebody else say this I was so confused at his confusion 😭😭 the movie also emphasizes that he specifically is older than all the others

Bee kills Greg during a confrontation because he's holding a knife when the girls are questioning him. Emma accidentally falls down the stairs while tripping on pills she took with Sophie. Jordan shoots Alice's leg with a gun and Alice, Bee and Sophie wrestle Jordan for the gun and she ends up accidentally shooting Alice. Bee throws Jordan off of the staircase and she lands into a pile of glass bottles.

Don’t mind me, just binging your vids and commenting. Lee Pace is so amazing. He is such an underrated actor and he is hot. Even when I saw soldiers girl when he played Calpernia (please ignore my spelling) I thought his portrayal was so beautiful. My crush got deeper and I just saw Bodies x3. I think I kinda feel the way you both do at certain points. Yes I thought it was funny enough, liked the representation but I literally couldn’t find a single character that I liked or found redeemable. There were some great shots and the acting was overall good. I just gotta be real. I couldn’t relate. I am a sorority alum but I’m old enough to flip my hair and say “I could never,” and just leave. I think you guys would react similarly irl. Like I’m gone when the Bellinis are done especially if I’m stuck with a bunch of fatuous imbeciles that are measuring worth based on sub counts. But I don’t think this movie would actually work with grounded, likeable characters. The message was very heavy handed and was not funny enough to carry the admonishment of social media culture. Especially considering that there was such a wide age group within the film. It’s like gen x to gen z. I don’t require substance at all times. Just simple entertainment and I was entertained. However if this film was seeking an indictment against our current social media obsessed culture, it missed the mark. Not that anyone asked but 2 ⭐️ for me for entertainment value, camera angles and overall acting skills but it loses 3 ⭐️ because I literally didn’t care if anyone survived the night, the game was silly and this film added nothing to the conversation regarding social media obsession. That appears to be the whole concept of the film and it doesn’t change the overall perception or world view. We don’t mind watching beautiful yet boring people d!e. The characters selfishness doesn’t even really translate. We are supposed to believe they are selfish because they are young hot and pretty, but a lot of of their responses are kinda expected. And this is why I don’t want or need my horror to be too woke. When the screenwriters ovetthink it, the essence is lost. Don’t preach to the public while hacking up attractive people with money in the bank. You can’t expect us to care, relate or root for anyone. The one thing I loved was the fact that typically marginalized folx, lgbtqia+ and people of color were just as awful as non poc folx and heteronormative poc’s. We can be dickheads too. Yes! Let’s get our heads lopped off too. Just not first.

Pete has a chronic illness that causes anemia and malnutrition. People with Crohn's sometimes need surgery to have most or all of their intestines removed. People can die from it.
It can change your body but doesn’t really change the way you look. I saw a roast recently and they roasted his looks and he laughs at himself. I don’t think anyone is being rude.
@@BookMaven9 It can't change his lips or nose. Not features like that. But, it can make you anemic and effect your skin tone. It can effect your eyes because of inflammation of mucus membranes. Also dehydration. It can effect your sleep because of the discomfort. Since the Beetle Juice meme was brought up it seems like that might have been why he was said to look like a creature. A picture of Dave Chapelle made up to look like a white man was also shown. So, he could have called him a creature for being a white person who has physical features more often seen on a black person. Which is also rude. I know Pete went along with it at the roast, but that is a place where they are paid to be mean to each other. That is different than people constantly singling him out and making negative comments about his physical appearance. It does effect him. He has said this in interviews.

Everyone in this movie looks like they were 19 except for the guy with the long hair he look like he was in his 40s I couldn’t get over that it was so funny. I didn’t laugh once. Bodies, Bodies, Bodies was filmed last year. Marmaduke was done way before. Do you really think they release movies right after they are made? Pete was filming The Home towards the end of his last season of SNL. That is part of the reason he was absent a lot towards the end. He is the star of that one. It's by the guy who made The Purge movies. He is filming Wizards in Australia now.

The character isn't really like him. His character is obsessed with his image, is jealous of the attention Lee Pace's character is getting from the girls and he fights with the group. They are not going to give away everything in the trailer.

It's satire. It's making fun of the way a lot of young people speak and act and making fun of their internet culture. They are meant to be unlikable. I don't understand how this is going over people's heads.

I am not part of production but I do feel protective of Pete. I first saw him on TV when he was a teenager and I saw him being harassed to the point of him putting out a suicidal message.
I found that part funny bc the film is satire, so it's exaggerated and ridiculous to expose the vapid superficial and pedantic behavior of some of these Gen Z kids today. I guess there's also a line from an interview I saw about how when one of the girls phone battery dies she's saying "it's like I'm losing oxygen." My sister's 20 something friends act like that if they don't have their phone constantly clutched in their hand.

You hardly ever hear anything bad about Pete from anyone who has actually been around him. Pete has maintained friendships with people who he met as a teenager. People who have acted with him or directed him have nice things to say. You hear that he is polite, kind, generous etc. The negativity comes from people on the internet who have never been in the same room with him or usually even watched an interview of him.

Pete Davidson is only 28? I was thinking he was 35 the whole time like why are they even friends? It could've been fun. They were kind of realistically annoying but it didn't go far enough. Yes the drama between them was giving surface like girl who cares? They had race, sexuality, sobriety, classism, an immigrant, a coked up rich angry white male, an strange older man, old resentments, and Tik Tok. They should've gone full anti-woke when things fall apart.

What movies have you seen him in? He did well in Big Time Adolescence and The King of Staten Island. In TKOSI he pulled off a few dramatic scenes.

Just an observation. Most people who say Pete can't act have not even seen him act in anything outside of SNL sketches and often they are thinking of his performance from years ago. He started SNL when he was 20 with a stand up comic background. These guys were critical of Bodies, Bodies, Bodies. Most people who saw it liked it. They even said the acting was good from everyone, including Pete. I have not read one complaint about Pete's acting in this movie either. Mostly praise for everybody's performance including Pete.
