      * Not securing a room, before locking that woman in the room, and demanding her stay in there, also failing to mention who Leena really was.
      * One guard being a flirty dumbass, getting himself killed for that matter.
      * Another guard failing to keep the facility on lockdown, better yet failing to handle against a single mental patient, despite being armed.
And ultimately: *Failing to inform the police and initiate a lockdown and manhunt for Leena Klammer, who poses as a child, and is extremely manipulative and dangerous, which allowed her to easily con an uninformed police officer into having her brought into the embassy, and shipped into the United States.*

Agreed with everything said: Would've worked better as a sequel. Needed more interaction with household staff. The gag should've been sooner and my main gripe is: They made both fathers into such clueless clowns. Had great potential but too many things didn't add up. Julia was the the best part of this movie.

A sequel is not out of the question, imo. Just go with the darker "alternate ending" of part 1 (which I almost can guarantee you was the *real* ending) where Esther/Leena actually lives, and take it from there.

The end of this is kind of ironic for me. As is the reference to The Good Son. Years ago I went and looked that up because I hadn't seen it since I was young, and made a suggestion about how that movie could have ended. The she that I'm referring to is Macaulay Culkin's (Henry's) mother in the film. Here's the video link and my comment:
    czcams.com/video/xqsDUwDwdUM/video.html
"I think that if she had spared Henry, after she pulled him up he'd have pushed her over the ledge, while laughing evilly and maniacally as the mom fell. Would have been an entertaining and believable alternate ending."

    I just watched it. And..
The original movie is 2 hours and 3 minutes. This one was merely 1 hour and 39 minutes. It felt rushed. So it's too short and a bit rushed. But..
While that plot twist honestly wasn't too far fetched, it made a cardinal sin; it made us *root* for Esther/Leena and that's just not right, because she's supposed to be the villain. Not be constantly on the defense, and basically be a victim/hostage..
I can think of a better twist myself; *Leena kills the missing child herself and assumes her identity* There! Problem solved. And I honestly thought that this was what they were going for, judging by the trailer..
It was nice seeing Leena/Esther again though. The forced perspective, kid body doubles etc that people have been complaining about is no different than that of the forced perspective and kid body doubles regarding the hobbitts in LOTR, and people loved that while overlooking it completely! Let's not kid ourselves here. People want to complain!
And there's the fact that the original movie was a horror thriller, this was almost a horror comedy?

Great review this ones gonna b a pass for me, Thanka for the heads up guys! Have u guys seen the movie The pizzagate massacre? I believe it has an alternate title of Duncan. Saw it on Amazon prime last night and threw it on thinking it would put me to sleep. I was pleasantly surprised. In the movie description it was categorized as suspense/comedy. I found it more as a suspense/drama tbh. Very low budget, satirical take on our modern day political climate. Loosely based on the comet ping pong shooting in D.C.. from a couple years ago. I'd love to hear u guys take on it if u ever get around to seeing it. The Male lead(character of duncan) was excellent. I found myself sympathizing with him at times during the film even though hes kind of a lunatic. The major confrontation in the 3rd act was intense with great effects given the supposed budget. I'm sure u guys have dozens upon dozens of movies to watch and review but if u get a chance check this one out, I'd love to hear ur thoughts

Great review, hit many things I thought watching the movie. Esther most definitely didn't look like a little girl at all and you could tell all the shots of her from behind they clearly had a real child playing those parts, the front facing shots I'm like umm she looks like she's on her knees 🤣. I was immediately annoyed with the inspector that came to the house. I'm like you're now trying to find out her identity instead of checking that first before having the mom fly to pick up her daughter? Also who does that? Wouldn't officers bring the child home? They had the mom pick her up? Ok sure. Then he comes by the first time and wants to set up a meeting and he's told that the mom has something going on the next day but what does dumb dumb do? He shows up the next day anyway only to snoop around the house with the kids there. Takes a record from Esther room it pisses me off how dumb he is so I can't wait for Esther to get his nosy ass 🤣. I thought it was funny how Julia Stiles felt like her son was an over achiever or something cause he was good at fencing 🤣. I didn't get the feeling that they were super rich either because she was happy that her husband could now go out and start selling his paintings again like they needed the money. The awkward way the father was smooshing Esther's face at the end while standing on this steep part of the roof was so weird lmao. Then him immediately calling her a monster lmfao... I was like what? Yeah no. I kept talking about that damn mouse like what is that? Why is this mouse there and all friendly lmao that was just dumb. It was an ok watch but it could have been so much better.

I like the twist. I loved seeing the mother and son having Lena sweat (especially when compared to her methodical, cold, confident self in The Orphan), but I felt like she was not as active as I thought she would be when it came to the family's demise! Her and the mother are fighting, and somehow a fire got started. Then the father found out she was not his daughter by squishing her cheeks so hard her false teeth come out, and died because he backed away out of shock and stepped off the house. I always thought that she would flick a match and the fire would go up in a blaze, and the camera would show a bunch of bloody bodies lying all over the house.
They did try to do a little competition with the mom and Lena. Lena was trying to get the (sexual), affection of the dad, and I wish they had done more with that. I don't think this should have been a campy film because the first movie was very serious. I think with better writers, they could've done a great job.

Definitely agree Julia's part was the best part of the film. The part that really pissed me was off was at the end with Ester walking through a burning house like it was nothing. Bitch the smoke alone would have made u pass out. Too unrealistic. 1 out of 5.

Rather you do a sequel or Prequel you're still stuck in the same situation the actor is going to look older than the character is supposed to be and you will get the same problem. The most likely reason for the Prequel route is because the first movie wraps the story up and there's nowhere else to go after that so they figured maybe we can tell the origins which in another way also puts them in a box as well. The truth is this never needed a follow-up the first was fine as a stand-alone but from what I have heard about this one it sounds like it has some camp fun. The point of making the family evil is so you don't feel sorry for them when they die and also so they don't have to redo the first.

This was a very predictable movie, except for the big twist. The question is, does the twist make up for the predictability? I think it kinda does, because it's a twist that you don't see coming.

@@patrickriachi7352 That's because given the fact it's a prequel they know you know Ester will live so they wanted to make the family evil so you didn't care if they died.

I wish we'd have more fresh ideas for this prequel and less mirroring from the first film. I think the story should have taken place in a different setting, with Esther/Leena becoming progressively a killer and crafting her childlike appearance. If It actually began with her first kill, we could have had room for new stories and perhaps have a trilogy. It was also a big departure from the established atmosphere of Orphan. I wasn't impressed by the supporting cast, Vera Farmiga brought so much depth and emotions in the first one, It's kinda disappointing to not reach the same level with Julia Stiles.

Frédéric Pierre Bourdin was the imposter that pretended to be Nicolas Barclay (true story). The whole family went along with it even though the mother and brother knew it wasn't him because... the real Nicolas was killed by his brother. The issue I have with this movie is the way it was executed. Her busting out of the institute in the beginning was almost as silly as the ending sequence of the film. Over the top and not believable at all. It also makes no sense that the mom and brother would be so hostile towards her when they need her to play the role of Ester. They planned to kill her but said it was too soon, and then immediately after that she tries to poison her. I hate the way this film was written and directed. The story itself had a lot of potential.

Yes I agree that I loved the direction they took it, where Esther suddenly becomes the "good guy" by comparison, taking on an All-American-looking family who was arguably more psycho than her. But they def needed to ham it up, weird it up and raise the stakes more. There was some very bad writing and plot contrivances that kind of took me out a couple times. Lots of missed opportunities given the subject matter and rating.

I think u missed it, its all about subverting expectations even down to the first kill name. when the twist happens later on its great, i liked that it didn't linger long coz would have gotten boring in my mind. 3 murderous characters trying to not kill each other would have been more a comedy.
The presence of a rat or a mouse in a house usualy means that its well stocked with food etc, made sence to me.
there was some stuff that was a little weird but I loved the movie, the twist payoff was a great surprise.
