Do you ever have trouble with cork bark having bugs/mites? I'm considering baking my cork bark before using it just incase. I'd love to know what you do
Hobby lobby is going out of business & 50% off everything. A great way to pick up enclosures on the cheap. Love your channel, keep up the awesome videos.
@@brooksmerket9470 I just went to the one in my town... A LOT was on sale....but the pioneer plastic display cases I normally get were not on sale :(
Is 1/16 drill bit whole good enough for a Cyriocosmus leetzi (Colombian Dwarf Tarantula) about 1/8
@the Tarantula Collective hey man! I Love your channel. I’m newish to arachnids and scorpions. I’m about to buy my first animals! Thanks for all the wonderful information!
TC: "Less is always more"
Also TC: "so I f0unD thIs SkULL" 😂💚
😊😂😎 sounds about right 💚
everywhere i shop , evey tub i see all i see is enclosures not whats in them lol
Literally said this exact same thing when I was in the grocery store today 🙃
Me too
Just want to point out how much your videos have improved over the years in terms of video quality and on screen delivery! Nice job!
All channels on CZcams start somewhere and how he has grown is amazing.
Thank you
Getting a golden blue legged baboon in a week I’m gassed 👌
Your voice can be some ASMR lmao! Also, this is great thank you. Usually I use Tupperware but maybe I’ll put a little extra time to make some of these awesome guys! Great info and good tips that are hidden and not “obviously” known. ♥️
Thanks...that probably comes from years of teaching guided meditation...lol. Glad the video was helpful...I am still learning how to do this CZcams thing. :) I enjoy your channel as well.
Hey Richard, after stumbling across your channel, I now have 3 tarantula slings
Richard,
I'm aware this is an older video. To be entirely honest I personally didn't need a tatorial of this nature. That said, my wife has never kept T's and I hadn't in almost ten years until recently. She found this video perfect for her curiosity and creative mindset towards her new found passion. Even being an experienced keeper I have learned far more from your videos and other material than I bargained for. Thank you sir for your contributions to this hobby. My wife and I greatly appreciate the time, effort and knowledge you share with everyone! From your amazing pictures and video quality to the extreme respect and care you have for your animals, you sir are top notch in every aspect of what it means to keep tarantulas and other exotics in kind. Thanks again and we look forward to your next video!
#spiderboss
wow..you reached way back to my first official video! thanks for the support and I am glad you and your wife enjoy the content and find it helpful! it means a lot to hear that.
@@tarantulacollective I'll be sure to use this as well, Could i inquire if I can use dried leaves, cork bark from the forest ? (If I bake it / clean it )
Where was this channel when I first got into the hobby?! Love it!
i see everything as an enclosure… every store i walk through. all i think about is how i can create a habitat out of it. i’m constantly looking for new ideas. currently building an acrylic display to hold all of my t’s. only have 6 but keeps growing slowly every month
Based off your intro this must be one of your 1st videos on the channel well just so you know you are literally now THE GUY that pet shops recommend to follow the advice of when getting into the hobby♡
Any time i google tarantula questions T Collective vids and website are always the first to come up. as it should be
Yeah...this was my first attempt at a video...lol. I sometimes forget this video is out there. 😊
I use a Dremel tool with a flex shaft attachment to drill. It's easier and more precise that using a cordless drill.
Second thing I do is use masking tape where I'm drilling. It greatly reduced chance of cracking the fragile plastic, produces cleaner holes and helps prevent scratching if you accidentally go to deep.
As another note, I highly recommend a Dremel tool with a variety of attachments. You will find it very useful for a very wide variety of DIY projects. I use mine literally all the time. Well worth the investment.
This is a good video for me Richard as ive never kept tiny slings before, last tarantulas i got were small but juvenile small so this will teach me what I need to know👍🇬🇧🕷🕷(5) year old this, you been about a long time brother 🕷💯👊
YESSSS!!!!! I would! Lol all they sell up her a slings and I want to do my best and make them happy while they grow💓
I'm not sure if you'll ever read this. I really like this style of video vs some of your newer ones. Mainly the in hand camera. Yes, its not as steady. It just has that feel though. Just my 2 cents.
Dude you deserve so many more views and subs.
It will come with time. It is hard getting the word out about a new channel.
I agree 💯
Why worry about what side of the cork bark is more ascetic since we haven’t heard of any tarantuls complaining? LOL you’re awesome! This was a good video. I needed it! Thanks
I’ve had a lot of ideas the last few days. And every bit of info here was exactly what I was thinking. Thank you for the confidence to push on for diy. My kids and wife are all really enjoying this as the collection grows! Awesome video!
Definitely a good idea for my scorpion slings I have coming! These'll keep them nice and cozy until they're ready for their big boy enclosures. Thanks!
Thank you for such a great video, I love your channel! I've been interested in tarantulas for years, but finally decided to take the leap and get one - your detailed videos helped me make my decision! I'll be expecting a Tliltocatl albopilosum soon!
Just getting back into the hobby myself and glad I found your community! Thanks for having a great place to learn and talk together!
I absolutely love this channel! I am a little upset I did not see this earlier. I haven't decided on a new friend as of now, but this channel by far is the best educational videos I have found as of 05/23/21.
KEEP IT GOING BROTHER!
I'm new to keeping Ts..I love watching your videos for all the information I need to keep them healthy and happy..so thank you for sharing.
I can’t tell you how helpful this was. I’ve been doing a lot of research through a lot of sources and I think I’m ready to finally get my first T. Your videos have helped out a lot.
The enclosure looks really great- thanks for that
very straight forward and helpful, thank you very much!
awwwww look how far you've come since this!
brand new to the hobby, this info is awesome. thanks
New to the hobby, digging it so far. Love scorps, starting to like tarantulas. I like the Mexican red knee pretty well.
This was perfect, thank you!
Very helpful thanks very much
oh wow, the production quality improved so much compared to this, good job man
New subscriber here! I’ve watched some of your videos here and there over the years and I feel like I’m over my fear of the spoods enough to binge watch your channel now. 😂
Awesome! Thanks for the support. You really reached back to the beginning to find thus video...lol
Dang! I just subscribed recently and I'm so impressed with the quality upgrade from then to now which was already strong from the start! It was cool seeing you talk about how the new channel would work out too. You should work with the community more again like you talked about in this video! I'd love to see some of the other viewers collections it would make me feel more relatable seeing people with small collections, along with the viewers that might even match up to YOU, just talking about their own current situations within their enclosure/s. :D
I have a few videos where I did that. I moved away from that because the views on those videos were extremely low. No one was watching the videos. But I do talk to many other keepers in the community from all around the world on my 2nd channel in The Exotic Pet Collective Podcast.
czcams.com/users/the_exotic_pet_collective
Can't wait to see what you do with the new digs.
Thank you so much , your videos have been amazing and super informative !!
Thanks a lot Preston. I am glad you find some value in them. I appreciate the support and kind words!
I'm glad I found this video! I just got my first tarantula, a C. Versicolor. About a half inch. I plan on getting a terrestrial species soon if this first T goes okay for awhile. I'm excited to try making my own enclosures!! :)
Thanks this was so informative & so ez not as difficult as i thought ...👍😎
Tina was here!!!
Great vid. Calm voice is nice
Im aspiring tarantula keeper. Really appreciate your videos sir 👍🕷👍
I watched this multiple times. We really need a few more vids on spiderlings probably about the kinds of Ts like fossorial ecc
Awesome vid😎
looks awesome seen this twice now. we have less choices of stores here in the UK.
old but informative !
Reaching WAY BACK to my first video...lol
Great video. My OCD complains when the lines are not straight. I tape a printed pattern on the box and drill straight through the paper and the box.
I feel you...I was like that at for the first 20 I made...the last 40 or so I have had to just let it go...lol
I use a soldering iron to make holes. Quick, easy and no cracks.
Doesn't look as nice tho
Thanks
Bro I rlly luv ur channel bc u don’t clickbate you get right into stuff and your tuff don’t forget that you always respond to your fans keep up the good work
😊 🙏 thanks
Dude this channel is crazy nice! Your very detailed in elaborate quite well. I hope I have the opportunity to send you one of my T’s & do a breeding video, If your into that stuff. Great Video!
Awesome ideas Richard, so definitely help myself out loads. I'm already on your Facebook group, which directed myself here. I will definitely be trying some of this, so thank you.
Keep watching folks! We're gonna have new videos, giveaways, and awesome new content coming regularly!
Try painter's tape (blue tape); Older video but a helpful tip about preserving the surface.
Excellent video, thanks!
I am glad you enjoyed it :)
Thanks for the info I have made a couple sling enclosures with those amac boxes from the container store and saved some money thanks again.
I was wondering if you can do a tutorial for some adult enclosures I would really appreciate it, keep up the good work.
you deserve a million subscribers! Very great quality content!
Wow.. thank you. That was my first video ever....lol.
very informative and I look forward to future content.
thank you...i appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment!
very helpful!! Thank you so much! Also, amazing to see the growth of your style and skills in your videos now.
Thank you
i'm getting a B.hamorii soon and it will be my first tarantula ever, making an enclosure for her all by myself is gonna be fun! thanks for this vid and all the informations! 🕷💕
Cool
I thought it would be cool if you did a video on expanding collections, some of the things to do specific for arboreals or terrestrials when setting up shelves or racks, and the habitat sizing. This comes up when hobbyists are running out of space bcs we accumulate too many T's haha.
great vids always!
Beautiful T room! Love the different colored lighting.
I just got my first three babies. I have two in 16 ounce food containers. I’m thinking that’s too big plus the lids are opaque...I can’t seem from the top. Hmm!
The other day I was at my girls house sitting outside on the table. I noticed a jumping spider walking along said table. He stopped and seemed to stare at me, he was very small, maybe a little bigger than the head of a pin but I could see his eyes perfectly. He stopped in front of me and I saw him look up at me. I put my arms on the table quite far from him and he turned and looked at my arms then back up at me. This intrigued me so I held my finger out in front of him and he looked up at my finger and if I got too close he backed away. I’d never seen a spider react to me in such a way, he didn’t run away, he simply got to a distance he felt was safe and stared at me and at my finger. Spiders are such amazing creatures. I want a tarantula badly but my family is afraid of spiders and will not allow me to keep one. Thank you for your videos!
Very informative.
thanks
Thank you. Iam a noob and your saving my life . Thank you again.
That is awesome...thanks for the support...glad you find value in the videos.
I'm really thankful for this video, I'm starting from 0 and getting my first T in some days! (Aphonopelma semmani) and wanted to make them a nice enclosure :D
You should make a video on what to do with all those babies if you have a successful pairing. I have a local store that takes my extra fish for store credit when they breed, but no where local that would be interested in tarantulas even if I gave them away lol.
I also find, at least in the snake hobby, its an aspect often overlooked by keepers who are eager to see mating behavior. Its the only reason I never tried breeding my Indonesian scrub pythons when I had them. Couldn't commit to potentially housing an additional ten or more medium-large snakes if they didn't get new homes.
When drilling holes place a towel under to stop scratching
Killer content bro 💪💪💪💯💯💯
thank you Gerald
Nice and informating Video bro🤘 I hope I can find similar boxes here in Germany. I stay tuned to your channel✊
thank you... i am glad you found it helpful. I would look anywhere they sell protective cases for baseballs, footballs, dolls, model cars, or collectibles like that.
Just catching up on some of your older vids and am always looking at different ways to design enclosures. I did notice that one of yours had elongated holes that looked super clean - how did you do those? This was early in the video
Thinking about getting a pink toe for my first tarantula 🤔 thanks for the ideas trying to save money on a house for the little guy
What organic soil do you use? I e been playing around with soil and cant seem to find the mixture! Would it be bad to add isopods to the set up?
Love the content and explanation behind your videos. I was wondering if i can house a juvenile T. In a adult enclosure. If you can point me in the right direction to find the answer to this question i would appreciate any input. Keep up the great work and thank you T community.
Hi, can I use the coco fiber Coir for substrate? I will also mix it with zoomed creature soil
I know this is an old video but what size amac box would you recommend for a pink toe tarantula? The one we are getting is about 1 inch and it will come with an appropriately size enclosure. But we want to be prepared and get a bigger enclosure now. But I am new and I dont know what size I should get. We do have a 10 gallon glass aquarium that my husband wants to use but I'm worried it won't have enough ventilation. Would it be okay to just use the 10 gallon aquarium with a plexiglass top? Thanks for any info!!
...And now I find myself in a situation where I REALLY want to have fun preparing cute little enclosures, but I have no T to put in them... :( (Yup, that's how awesome it is!)
Fantastic video I'm new to keeping ts got my first mexican red leg and found your channel great help I request join fb group atm I have three cats two ring neck parrots three snakes and 1 t but definitely am going be adding to my spider collection as I'm hooked atb
wow, under $10!! thank you for sharing this with us! [=
no problem my friend. thanks for watching!
I really want to know where to get those water dishes? They look refreshing!
Hi there, ive been looking into getting myself a Trapdoor Spider, all the research ive done ive found most of what i need. Substrate depth, temp and humidity. But the one thing i cant seem to find is how to keep them at a constant temp and humidity aswell as setup..i.e. type of substrate and how to prepare it properly. As i live in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 temprature is the challenge. Anything you could suggest to help me in this would be much appreciated. 😊 awsome video to.
Hello! I was wondering where you would recommend getting Top-Soil? We can get it at Tractor Supply Co., but, we're not sure if it contains fertilizers or chemicals. Thanks!
Thank you so much for the videos. How can I identify a spider I was given?
i got a baby curly hair about 4 days ago, eats good and doesnt seem to be aggressive as its never kicked hairs or bit me. its been in the same enclosure but it didnt have a borough so i made one out of a plastic bottle, will this cause any stress on the baby t? or should i have kept it the way it was and not put something it could borough in
Can you use potting soils like fox farm ocean forest(hot soils) or happy fron( cold spoils), pro mix hp(peat moss), type soils? Or are they to acidic for tarantulas?
Where do you get the round metal ventilation holes and what are they called?
I'm just wondering whats the perfect size water bowl to use for a bigger sling. I'm always finding ones that are either too small or too big. Any advice would help 😆
Hi I found your channel yesterday and just want to say its amazing and very educational, I have finally got my missus onboard about getting another tarantula. I had 2 before I met her but had to give them up, I had curly haired and a Thai zebra, I just want some advice on a setup for a cobalt blue sling, many thanks from the UK
That is awesome! Welcome and I'm glad you found my channel!
Cool shirt dude
Thanks
I’m looking for a good substrate for my new pink toed juvenile set up
Tiny slings, especially for shipping, do great in florist live flower vials and they’re only 10 cents each!
I've noticed you guys in the US are big on water dishes. Whereas here in Australia, they are very rarely used!
What size is the amac u made in the video at the 8 min mark.Would it be good for a 2” olive incei?
What type of water dishes are those! They are perfectly tiny💖
Can I ask what you used for the teeny tiny water dish?
Do you think live Spanish Moss could go in an enclosure instead of dried sphagnum moss? Do mosses and leaf litter really matter?
Where did you get those little clear water dishes? Those look way better than plastic bottle caps IMO
I have them listed and linked in my amazon store front: www.amazon.com/shop/the_tarantula_collective
Any harm in having a young juvy brachypelma boehmei in an enclosure thats a little on the large size? I have plenty of substrate so there isnt too much height. This is my first and likely only so I wanted something it could really explore and grow into as well.
What are you using for sling hides?
