- In this knife video film comparison thing, we take a look at the cheap Cold Steel Kukri Machete and the Ka-Bar 1249 Kukri. We compare and contrast, perform very unscientific chopping tests. And I offer my thoughts and feelings on two Kukris About $50 or less. Later in the video I compare them with other more and less popular Westernized Kukris, like the Himalayan Imports, the Zombie Tools Vakra, and the BudK Indian Kukri thing. Which Kukri should you buy or spend your ill gotten money on.

I appreciated you telling me the verdict right away so much, I watched the rest of the video. Just because you asked nicely.
instaBlaster...
i bought the Kabar kukri in 2012 and have used it every year for camping, trimming trees, splitting wood and cutting rope and such and have sharpened it maybe twice. as long as you arent chopping rocks with it, it will keep a workable edge for a long time.
I bought one in 2008? And it’s been the best knife I’ve ever bought. Indestructible after years of camping use, and still sharp after years in storage.
I prefer a bareback Kukri too.
Great content, keep the neighbours wondering. It’s cheaper than building a clock tower and buying a Remington 700. Same effect though.
I'm not a knife bro. But I really enjoy your channel, it's awesome. You could probably make an interesting video about something as mundane as a beer fridge.
He actually did make a video about a beer fridge!
@@I0nlyRunFactoryHi that was my poor attempt at sarcasm/humour perhaps it doesn't come across so well in writing.
Woosh
@@Taffy-ep9jk Nah man, it came across.
I would watch a review from this creator about a beer fridge though 😂
"A man might even put a brimmed hat on and Bushcraft with it" lololol
Ive had a cold steel kukri for around 14yrs. Great for chopping the hand off of thieves! I put a rubber grip from a garden hose on the handle because its uncomfortable. Ive used and abused it in every possible way and it still works great.
I know this is an old post, but I have a Cold Steel Gurkha Light Kukri that I carried to war (no, it was not used in any gruesome h2h or anything) because I could not afford the much heftier Gurkha Kukri. The Cold Steel Gurkha kukri *machete* tested here is not the same animal, it's a lot thinner and lighter (and cheaper). I'd still buy one, but doubt it'd hold up to the OG leg-chopper ones. Hang on to that thing. They may make them still but I've not seen one in a long time.
I'm going back to re-watch some of my favorites. Your humor was strong on this video. You're a unique and special little corner of the interwebs. Keep up the superb content!
as someone who really isn't that into knives, I'm not sure what I'm doing still hanging around here.
I don’t either. It ain’t gonna get any better
I think whatever I’m doing. I’m not that much into knife reviews. But this dude got some moves. He so sexy wid da blade! Oooo boi!
Enjoying humor, and and his advanced bro antics?
1st?
Do a live stream fireside beer 🍺 review, in your spare time 🙃
You can probably de-bamboo the whole place before you move. In a whirling dervish double kukri frenzy.
All praise Lynn...
that bamboo looks addicting to chop. I would need more knives too
Dude, I just stumbled upon your channel and it's great. I love the commentary and I love the honesty.
I look forward to watch more of your videos, man. Thank you.
Quite possibly the most refreshingly honest and hilarious review I’ve found. Thank you sir, you should be in charge of all advertisements for everything I purchase.
Subbed. Love your humor and attitude! Great way to handle your comments and vids.
I've had that Kabar machete for over 10 years. It's a beast and chops like a hatchet but can do big camp knife chores too.
The first 50-some seconds of this video are legendary.
Thanks for the video. I ended up buying both a while back closer to when you made this video but kept the KaBar one in the long run. Love it. It's been my Car/Camping Knife for 2 years.
I like your sense of humor. It makes watching this more entertaining.
Dude, this is my first time watching a video by you, and I am having a really good time appreciating your truly random, even bizarre editorial commentary! 😂
I appreciate that!
You're awesome man. Thanks for the info and the chuckles.
Thank you so much for the great review. I appreciate the bluntness....
What is the kukri blade at 7:41 called?
I’ve tried many low to mid range Kukris and the Kabar blows them all out of the water. I think it’s the hollow grind, but whatever it is makes this thing a beast. Deep smooth chops that take of tons of meat.
That was 12:37 of my life that I don't get back so I'm glad I spent it on this video! Well spent time. Thank you Knife Bro!
Your sarcasm and wit just gained you a subscriber! Lol!
The sarcasm in this video is amazing.
Your dry humor videos are hilarious! Keep it up brother. 😂
Great video, information and just great humor.
Fixed blades are cool, and kukri’s are awesome, who are all these other people??!
Intelligence flavored with sarcasm.
Absolutely my new most favorite blade information place.
Amazing review.
Anybody had some experience with the SOG Kukri?
Ive owned the cold steel one for 11 yrs i use it to chop, cut , and even clean fish .the 1055 carbon gets really sharp it stays next to my bed at night its my go to
It's an incredible, cheap beater.
Your commentary is awesome. Thank you.
Hola, disculpa, de que es el recubrimiento del cold steel? A mí cold steel ya se le desgasto y quiero restaurarlo
I really enjoy your comments, keeping it real thanks!!
I got a Ka-Bar Cutlass Machete several years ago on a whim and many hours spent chopping desert willow and mesquite branches hasn't managed to kill it. I'm not sure how the shape of a Kukri might swing/chop differently than the Cutlass Machete, but for the price I might have to find out.
Just found the channel via a link on Fakebook's "Bladed Misfits Extravaganza" page - and I am blown away by your awesomely semi-demented yet always controlled narrative style, vaguely reminiscent of Ben Stein's "Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?" if he had maybe done a half dozen Red Bulls. I seem to be drifting a bit here. anyway, subbed and look forward to watching a lot of your videos. Hope life is going well for you and yours.
You put your finger on what I was trying to.
Excellent review indeed
I've had the Kabar kukri for 15 years now and used the hell out of it. The bean counters must have changed the coating to something cheaper, because the stuff on mine isn't sandpapery, and it's never chipped or flaked off. Probably one of the ways they kept the price point at
Bro you keep me laughing as I watch your videos 🤣. Good info too
Great Comparison, thanks Bro! Cheers.
p.s. I fucking love that Vakra!!
I'm one of those knife newbies that I'm sure you've got a cute name for! I had to start this comment (of course the subscribe button was smashed) about 1 & half minutes in to say, from the bottom of my 21st century, soft-ass cuz life's too easy heart, THANK YOU! My cheeks & stomach hurt from your subtle delivery and honest assessment! It is refreshing to see in our current predicament in this CZcams/consumer driven race to the bottom of just about every category possible while simultaneously raising one's expectations of outcome and diminishing the role of the hard work, skill & craftsmanship needed to get said outcome.
Great review! Love my Ka-Bar Kukri, use the plastic loop at the bottom of the sheath to tie to my leg so it's not flappin around.
Can you show how well the kbar does against winter clothing upon a semi rigid surface?
Awesome vid, thanks.
Walking down the "SIDEWALK" IN Placencia , Belize Central America, in the back table under tourist stuff was butt end of a handle, a very old KUKURI. My head of security in Nigeria , YAM RHY was a retired Gurkha who had been senior non-com of jungle WAREFARE training for the Brits in Belize. Before he died he left me his Hat. LIke to think he made sure I got the blade he used. Appears to be hand made from spring steel. Rest in peace my Brother, I got it.
Hey Bro! Whats the breed name of that awesome bamboo? How cold it gets in your region in winter (average, minimum)?
the ka-bar is a phenomenal machete. Worth every penny
This is my first video of yours I've seen. You earned my subscription within the first 90 seconds with your, not give a shit humor.
You are funny AF! Loved those wise cracks and the info!
Wow… love the sarcasm! It made me listen to the whole video!
Advanced Knapped Obsidian Bro, I hope your new place still offers some sweet backyard batoning action. I've been meaning to check out the Condor K-TACT, but other shiny baubles catch my eye. Like the Massdrop Keen.
Onna related note, years ago, I got a Cold Steel Heavy Machete. Thing came with a courtesy edge. Like they just ran it over the bench grinder on each side once really quickly.
Awesome! Wether or not you shot this video because of my KABAR Kukri request comment. I will buy. This is a working knife!
J C you’re a working knife
Great job, bro. Good luck with the move
Thank you for a straight up review! JFYI: Before we go any further-I hope you NEVER use the term "blood groove", for those that do simply don't think! Long ago I learned from a well known knife maker that the groove began somewhere around WWI (ish, I believe)-as the only tech way to lighten a longer blade length! Just tryin' to help-again, thanks! Take care, "GOD Bless", sincerely -
P.S.: You're right as the rock cutters were ABSOLUTE craftsmen!
I continue to use the term blood groove! I’ve had this conversation at length in the comments of other videos. It’s a colloquial term sure... but it goes back much further than you think. It had been used by knife makers to describe the fuller... and most importantly it triggers people!
Look under etymology: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuller_(weapon)

Thanks for watching!
Nice rhythm, nice flow.
I've just become a new subscriber to your channel after watching three of your videos. I wanted to compliment you on your filming and editing but specifically that I think your very funny voice over comments, and the way you deliver them ( dry and deadpan, the same way I like potato jerky) really hit me right in the belly or the cranium, whichever is larger. Please keep up the good work but don't let it go to your head, that's what happened to Han Solo.
Good moving movements!
Good luck to you. I hope your job transition is smooth.
Great video brother..
Got a cold steel machete Kukri the other week just got around to sharpen and polishing the edge today it comes dull but I like that as I can put my own edge on. It seens pretty good but I don't like how thin it is compared to regular kukris. Haven't tested it yet but will do on the weekend. I own a hand forged Nepalese Kukri but even though it's full tang I just have it on display I don't have the heart to take it out camping/bushcraft with me lol am weird I just love the thing it's a work of art. Thinking about getting a British army standard ceremonial Kukri for display and using the full tang in the field
So are we getting an obsidian granite or flint review next?
I love this review
Hilarious video. I don't own one and probably never will, but I loved your review.
Good luck with your new job Bro! I still don't have a kukri yet, I will have to pick one up. I was thinking about the Condor kukri but I will have to check the blade thickness. I don't want it too flexible either.
I can never unsee the lines, they're never really gone.
Nice into. Subscribed
Good information will follow
Twelve Minutes to sweeten up my day.
Highly entertaining as ever :). When you can, you may want to try the Royal Kukri Machete from Cold Steel. It's longer, much more like a kukri in design, and packs way more chopping power. Same limitations for hardwoods though, as it is thin and flat sheet metal with a ground edge. Upside, you can catch it on sale for $20 or less, and in the coming Zombie Apocalypse, it will serve way better as a makeshift weapon. That being said, I REALLY need to get my hands on one of those KaBars - seems like a pretty sweet short machete option, especially if I can catch a sale.
Theres a mini Skrama on its way across the pond to me, I can't wait. I am giddy with excitement, because then I can be both bushy AND crafty while maintaining my shortness and stubbiness that I'm so fond of.
I do enjoy you beating the shit out of stuff with the big choppers, tho.
Watched for kukris
Liked for testing
Subscribed for dry witty sarcastic commentary 😎
A kukri can be a great tool for the woods if it's made right. It would be worth it to get a good one but the ones you have are fun to play with. Good comparison video!
Hey bro, I would love to send you my Gerber Bear Grylls fixed blade knife for review, but only if you break it on camera. How can we make that happen?
Maybe in the near future... that move right now is kinda got me out of sorts for a moron or two.
Are kukris better than hatchets? They both seem to fill the gap between machete and chainsaws.
Booby comment was priceless. Side note. People look at you funny when you've chuckling in the bathroom.
"Well it's great if you live in a tree and bake cookies with your 'fuck you' Keebler money"...Subbed.
I'm just here for the beer and sarcasm.
We really do need to get back to flint napped rocks! Thanks for bringing that up!😜💓💓💓🤣🤣🤣
You're hilarious love the sarcastic comedy!
I lost it when you mentioned ICP...
Fuckin magnets; how do they work?
Man I'd love to see you review the Esee Junglas
Can't wait for a Victorinox batoning(review) video
I think I want a smallpox crystal now, although I'm not sure what I would do with it.
Tried the condor heavy duty kukri vs the kabar kukri? i love my kabar kukri, although i bought it when it was relatively new for about 75 though, want to get that condor kukri and try it out, looks pretty beefy
I have not. It's on my wish list but it's just further down the list because I already have a few Kukris. My Kukris to buy yet are an Cold Steel kukri (not the machete), a Condor, and a Tora.
@@AdvancedKnifeBro smokey mountain knifeworks has the old original version of that jess-x big chopper chris tanner from prepared mind 101 designed, havn't used it yet but its got the full saber grind 1095 blade and was only 25 bucks so i was going to take it camping this summer and compare it against my kabar kukri.
Which Kukri review group?
Don’t remember- they deleted the comments.
Liked and subscribed
Your fixed bladessth ones are always welcomed. 👍🏼
I came for the info and stayed for the sarcasm
Oh and the info was good too!
Cold Steel?!?! KaBar?!?! Did you just take a pay cut or something? WTF! Thanks for uploading, you bastard!
I got some slightly higher end stuff coming up... however I can buy several large knives to review versus one overpriced folding knife. I already have quite a few overpriced folding knives I love.
Still, best knife channel ever.
Great video bro.
I do own the KA-BAR kukuri since it's more than 10 years old, I wanted to buy a new one , I was looking at the cold steel even tho cold steel is waaaaaay to tactical for me, thanks to you, I know that I'll be buying a KA-BAR again .... Or a fox ...
Kisses from Tahiti 😘
Stick with the Kabar!
Secondly~ love the videos , needs more abra kadoobie ? Keepem coming!
Close Sir but pipped by Ryan .
ive been watching reviews for cheep machetes/kukris and was gonna go for a diffrent one but the cold steel was $15 on amazon today and for that it seems worth it
Hey, leave the CHAOS out of this, I have the Trench Chaos
The Gurkhas used these in the second world war, originally they brought them along to look macho when shaving. But soon found out that they were useless for shaving or trimming their hair in the field, but were excellent at removing the entire head. The moral of this story is; never ask a Gurkha for a hair cut.
Adrian Valentine, 😂😂😂😂😂😂 best comment.
"A little off the top" would be your last words to a Gurkha Barber 😂
Condor K-tac...PLease!
The kabar and some Ontario spec plus use Kraton-g as a handle material. I always imagined that those knives would be superior at saxophone solos.
So far this was the best you tuber I've listened to and watch. Well; the girls who do bikini try ones are good too, but that's for a different time and place. Maybe one will do a kukri review, but until then...u win.
Thanks dude!
Advanced stand-up bro?
