  • Time to move onto some test games. Back before my semifinal a few weeks ago, I conscripted my good friend and fellow EDH content producer Nate Prawdzik to help me prepare. In this video, I go over my upcoming opponent's deck, discuss the format some more, and lay out my strategy. Test games are coming up soon, so stay tuned!

I wonder if wizards would ever consider bringing back mama burn. I guess major changes are coming. Who knows what those could be.

Doe not seem likely. However, mana burn is a staple in Old School as this was a key part of the game mechanics in the 1993-1994 days.

Great content. What software are you using to display the decks?

This was done on Magic the Gathering Online, the client owned by WotC

Would it ever be considered to add fallen empires to this format? Fallen empires is mostly terrible cards, but it would add some direct damage with aeolipile and goblin grenade. And also pump knights, hymn, and some tribes.

Hi Joe! Yes, our Rules Committee is composed of seasoned Old School and Vintage Players who have won major Vintage and Old School Tournaments and are keeping a keen eye on the format to increase the fun, and allow the format to be balanced and fair.
And Yes, Fallen Empires has been considered. We often do what we call "Spice" events, where we allow special sets or do special rules. The rules committee has just recently announced a big update to the Four Horsemen in that they have banned the set hosers Golgathian Cylix, City in A Bottle, Arena of the Ancients as well as made Moat an Enchant World.
We are now in the Quarter Finals of our 5th free online tournament which is a Winter "Spice" event. Here, we have discounted the Legendary creature costs to make them easier to cast and more fun to play. We also restricted the Legendary creatures along with and banning the set hosers, with a temporary ban on Moat and Karakas. This has made playing Legendary creatures a ton of fun and made for some really cool decks! You can learn more here on our CZcams channel- youtube.com/@4HMOSMTG

Sorry to hear this. All of the players engaged in this format, including Brian, have experienced first-hand how fun this format actually is. So much so that we are now about to host our sixth online free tournament, and we hosted an in-person event at SCGCON that was well attended. In the Four Horsemen format, you get to play with cards that are extremely good, but never see play in other formats. The focus on creature combat brings back the Old School Magic days and game focus on intensive and extended creature battles. We have players who are on record stating this is a really fun format because of the very fact that they get to play with a lot of cards that would otherwise never see the light of day. All of our players have innovated and found creative ways to some of the challenging aspects of the format, which is also a big part of the fun.

Hey I know your email is somewhere. I don’t know how often you check your channel for comments. I’m trying to tackle historic brawl. I did a pretty good job doing that with Florian. I’m using urza, lord protector now. I’ve played a crap ton of games and would like to see your take on the deck please. I’m trying to play control. And I think I’m close. This format is insane.

No. But mana drain, flash counter, remove soul, and force spoke are legal.

Hi Shawn! The Four Horsemen format is focused on the 1993-1994 expansions sets of Magic the Gathering including: Arabian Nights, Antiquities, Legends, & The Dark. In this format, only cards from these expansions plus the five basic lands, dual lands from the baseline ABU sets, and the 93/94 promo cards (Arena, Nalathni Dragon, and Sewers of Estark) can be utilized. However, to make this format accessible to all, Proxies and reprints are allowed!
