  • In this video tutorial I tried to explain geometric, material & contact non-linearity. When it need to use non-linearity in simulation & when we can ignore non-linearity in simulation. Also discussed how stiffness matrix will affected by different type of non-linearity.

Thank you for your nice explanation about non-linear analysis in Abaqus. I just want to know can we implement inbuilt plasticity model (isotropic hardening) without considering the effect of geometric nonlinearity, if yes could you please explain?

      Always welcome.
I suggest to go with all four videos of sequence.

Could you please explain, what will happen if we dont use geometric non linearity? How the geometry will behave.

      Dear,
In geometric linear analysis stiffness matrix remains constant throughout the simulation..but in nonlinear geometry case stiffness matrix update for each increment.
I suggest to go with all 4 videos of sequence.
Apart from one example i explained in below video - czcams.com/video/UzKDiW-YII4/video.html
Basically this video is about linear perturbation and general static step but it will surely help you to understand geometric linear and nonlinear Analysis.

0:38 how you know that you are working beyond the yield stress ?

      Dear,
It depends on many factors such
      1. Application - design of office chair is in such a way that developed stresses should always within elastic limit..but on other hand vehicle chassis designed to absorb max shock energy...to improve passenger safety.
      2. Material - many material (brittle) don't have significant yielding before failure...you can design them as linear elastic material (not for fatigue analysis)
      3. Factor of safety and precision - Even high load application can be analysed with linear material assumption if significant FOS considered and we are not interested in yielding...all the way we want within elastic limit only.
      Etc.

Dear Sir, could you explain how the calculation stop(identify failure) the process when it reaches the failure point(not fractured point). For material nonlinear analysis

      @simtech0598  Před 3 lety

      Dear,
You need to define failure criteria and max limit in material.
