This is my greatest frustration as a Metroid fan, but I get it. Metroid has never been a launch title or given the same spotlight as Mario and Zelda, and those series are more appealing to your average person who maybe isn't looking for something hard-core.

@@bolson42It's the biggest of Nintendo's "lesser franchises". There's some content droughts but the series is guaranteed to get another game that'll be good. Metroid is in a much better spot than Starfox, F Zero and Earthbound. It's currently getting more attention than Donkey Kong, despite him being more successful.

@@Emberson-9000 It's that the aesthetic of Metroid is the complete polar opposite of what most Ninty fans care about. (It doesn't "look like" a Nintendo game, by comparison.) Once you realize that most Nintendo fans mostly care about Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, and uhh.... yeah. You get the idea. Metroid is kind of a relic of the 80s in a way. Much like how Star Fox is a relic of the 90s. (F-Zero has no such excuse though; Miyamoto just clearly doesn't like high-octane racing games.)

@@benmalsky9834 It is. Just look at the sales nummbers: Metroid Dread, the most successful Metroid games, sold just 2.9 million on a 130 million sold console, even 1-2-Switch sold better. Metroid Prime on the Gamecube, on the other hand, sold 2.84 million albeit on a console that only sold 21 million, making Metroid Prime the 7th best selling Gamecube game. Yes, Metroid has many fans, but you should not overestimate the popularity of the series.
That's because all of these series are easily accessible and mostly appeal to casual gamers of all ages, while Metroid is less accessible and mostly appeals to older people. Also, the dark, alien-inspired sci-fi setting doesn't necessarily appeal to Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon buyers.
