    hi PhiDX, i know rank isnt everything but i just wanted to thank u for ur digestible content. this is my first tekken game and ur content has helped me understand (relatively... lol) the game & i managed to get to red rank with lili even while being a quadriplegic. i had a spinal cord injury in 2015 & never imagined i could play tekken, even if its sub-optimally lol. thanks again

    For people that are following this drill, it is very important to do it on both sides, you will be surprised how a side switch could throw you off.
    Another more practical option for the dragonuv snake edge punish, is to input ws punish in both cases at the same time you would have blocked it, the throw does not catch ws state.

    • @Nova_Afterglow
      @Nova_Afterglow Před 2 měsíci +6

      im tappin in to the local offline scene and yeah, knowing p2 side is CRUICIAL. i dont wanna be at an instant disadvantage if im on p2 side, so ima be just running p2 online for a while until its as good as my p1

    • @SketchCarellz
      @SketchCarellz Před 2 měsíci

      I’m not home to test at the moment but you could even take it a step further with Drag’s snake edge punish and crouch block to launch no matter what (assuming your character has an appropriate launch like a WS2 or hop kick out of crouch). I am thinking that if Drag lets the snake edge rip, then your characters block animation will eat the launch and you can punish accordingly. If Drag fakes the snake edge into the crouch throw, the launch will catch Drag as he is doing the crouch throw. Good option select for both cases, just requires muscle memory drilling like Phii is stating in this video. Either way, good advice all around.

    The reason I didn't suggest hopkick vs. Dragunov db3 vs. db3,1+2
    - I didn't realize it at the time
    - i think the 9f jumpstate requirement is harder to hit than the reaction block~release
    That said, Level 3 is pretty hard. Feel free to jump to the Law drill as needed.

    • @JinKay797
      @JinKay797 Před 2 měsíci

      The throw breaks together is nightmare, i can react well to those those 3 options, but the throw breaks by themselves are hard.
      But anyway, i'm loving your training guides man, helped me a lot

    • @DeathsIntent96
      @DeathsIntent96 Před 2 měsíci

      I think the best option isn't raw hopkick as a reaction, it's duck~hopkick (or a WS launcher that doesn't leave you crouching). Time it so that you'll block the low and no longer be crouching by the time the throw would connect.

    • @user-vo1ws6nv5k
      @user-vo1ws6nv5k Před 2 měsíci

      Love your content Phi!
      Came just to share this simple remedy for the db3 fuzzy block shinanigan.
      I found that a well-timed FC df2 with Steve, right after Drag's db3 kick animation, (you may have to mash 2 a bit if the kick does come out and blocked), is a very effective and easy muscle memory solution that beats both db3 and db3~1+2,cuz it whifs the grab since Steve is no longer crouching, instead of having to "notice" which one is its visually.

    • @PhiDX
      @PhiDX  Před 2 měsíci +2

      @user-vo1ws6nv5k for Steve I think uf2 is better

    • @jar2987
      @jar2987 Před 2 měsíci

      Think I just found a feasible OS for this. First, practise blocking db3 and hitting your ws punish button early enough that it doesn't come out. You'll see this won't take long. Next, start hitting that button twice, regardless of which option he goes with. The first press takes you out of crouch state early enough to avoid the throw and launches, the second punishes the db3. It is much easier than it might sound, boiling down to holding db for a second, then smashing your ws2 or equivalent. You have to see it a mile off to use a low crush option, even if it is very satisfying (law's ub3,4 is my fave), and you really want an answer that works whether you react late or early.
      edit: Sorry, user-v01... I just noticed you basically said the same thing, but I don't think it got across. It really is better than any low-crush option, and easy as pie.

    Ahh this reminds me of the time i decided to take this game seriously and started training. Once in T7 Law whopped me many times i was so helpless, we added each other and he said ‘Yeah man junkyard has to be lowparried on the second hit everytime, if you dont wanna be at disadvantage’ i trained that for hours. Im grateful to that player to this day for his attitude, i was always lazy to lab all this stuff but its really a slow and long proccess that indeed pays of.

Sometimes I don’t but, I go oh I see where I had to do it. Or well see the pattern one likes to use with their character.

    Hey PhiDX just letting you know your videos are really awesome and helpful. Im playing since tekken 1 and never bothered to learn the wavedash and other high/pro level skill (I dont have my own stuff before, i just go to mall to play).
    I start trying to elevate my skill with the help of your videos. Kinda frustrated at first when I tried to learn KBD and Wavedash but now I can say after 3 weeks, I am far far away from day 1. I was like damn I can do it. Only problem now though its hard to apply in ranked games due to kinda nervous when I play rank. But i know time will come I can play calm on rank (im calm when it comes to quick matched though 😂) so I wont messed up my inputs. Right now Im stuck at purple due to my defense is trash (mostly pressing a button in the middle of string, cant break a grab, misinput).

    watched this, was skeptical how drilling against Brian would help with other characters but gave it a try anyway. Super low (green rn) but after doing the level 1 drills for ten minutes or so I went online and absolutely smashed a Lee by countering everything he threw. Amazing stuff, thank you for this!

    Drills like these have helped me so much over the years, doing stuff like this, side step training, throw break training, and punishment training will make you a completely different player, you stop just pressing buttons and start watching for mistakes to capitalize on

    I want to point out something you've taught before, but I feel scared to do so, that your muscle memory gets better so to speak during the recovery (when you take a break, when you sleep, when you go out and touch grass after these training drills). That's all

    I’ve been doing level 3 for years and never thought there would be something as nefarious as this level 4/5, absolutely love this.

    I remember watching Anakin do a video like this before. In Tekken 7, he made a drill with Bryan doing hatchet kick, snake edge. It was more of a drill to know when to low parry vs low block. He threw in some mids I can’t think of off the top of my head just so you can not duck the whole time

    I was in a 10 game losing streak last night with kaz, got demoted maybe twice, even got schooled by a beginner rank. I was planning on picking a different main permanently or even just dropping the game entirely and play something else. It's videos like this, hell, tips videos by PhiDX specifically that help struggling players find their footing and continue improving their game instead of giving up.

      Same here. After just one SK Law drill session, I stopped eating as many lows and started reacting better so even if I wasnt punishing properly or getting the low parry immediately, I started watching for patterns so I could find when to low parry. It was risky but just that mental swap drives me to keep playing and finding new ways to enjoy the game. Keep at it fren

      I try to keep the “rank doesn’t matter” mindset. It can be really hard when you are just getting beat up over and over. We just gotta practice stuff like this and slowly improve
