      Hey PhiDX, awesome tutorial, thank you very much! Do you switch up characters to warm up with from time to time?
      If yes, what do you look for in moves? Is it always formulaic like:
      1. Small punish
      2. Low parry string
      3. Duck string
      4. Launch punish
      5. Mixup
      or would you recommend looking a bit more towards key moves of a character?

    • @richiepoo
      @richiepoo Před 2 měsíci +1

      Idk if you have the time but would love to see a tutorial for all characters that list what you suggested ie their best pokes, recommended non wall combo, wall combo, floor combo, and perhaps oki set up combo, and character specific shenanigans. Fyi does anyone have a clue what the pc benchmark score means? I’ve looked online and other people are just as confused people getting scores from 75 to 1497 and there doesn’t seem to be a rhyme or reason as some builds that you would think are more powerful get like 419 to 570 i have no idea what it means or what the optimal settings are for online play ie reducing lag, crisp frame rate, etc.
      Not sure about you guys but i see a lot of jumps in t8 and pretty certain the lag or frames of delay are taking side step inputs and making them jumps. Just the online seems wonky sometimes even on good connections.
      Idk im hoping the game has more of a community feel at some point Being they took away infinite rematch its less enjoyable i dont care about points or rank sometimes you just want another match and so does your opponent.
      The lobby system to me is useless and clunky and its more of a shell to sell things in game not make the online better

    • @latteARCH
      @latteARCH Před 2 měsíci +28

      It's something most musicians learn. It's all about minimizing mistakes and creating consistency. Play it fast and inconsistent and your performance will have lots of repeated holes and you'll waste your time repeating bad inputs without thinking. This is easily how bad habits are created. Play it slow and your mind learns to do every single input correctly. ONLY THEN you can slowly increase speed.

I have been a Tekken fan since the 90s, but I've never played it to the full potential as I'm beginning to play it with Tekken 8. This video really helped me in getting better with defense and mentally preparing myself for ranked, but I would like to give some tips that gave me a boost to keep myself on my toes
    Ofc watch the entire video with all the warmups. KBD training, sidestep training, combo memory and then the meat and potatoes.
    When you get to do the Law training try this:
    Level 1: B1,2,2 and uf1,3
    Level 2: 4,3 ~ f2 (This is where I'm currently at)
    Level 4: Flipkick
    Level 5: hopkick
    Personally what I do is every single time I get hit, I fuzzy the b1,2,2 string or I low block the blackout mugin I restart. Like I press the touch pad and x
    So when I get correct in a row I just kept going, this helped me not zone out soo much and try to anticipate the moves. I do it on both sides as well
    Overtime I became more and more strict on myself so u might now have to be strict to yourself right away.
    Hope this helps those looking for concentration and zoning out solutions

    Hey @PhiDX, thanks so much for your content and your beginner-friendly delivery. Even though I don't believe I'll ever be able to (other than randomly) break throws in an actual match, I highly appreciate the drills you show here. :D
    I currently play Leroy, and there are a couple of moves, where I wonder what the specific use-cases for them are (if any?) outside of using them in combos when possible, like d1+2 / u2 / db1+2 / qcf2 and a couple more.
    I thought it might be interesting if you could talk a bit about how you can find out in the lab what the possible/ideal use cases for some moves of your characters are or if they are mb just niche scenario moves or if they're basically trash and not that useful. Because I believe frame data is one way to look at moves, but I feel like I'm still missing something and simply going by frame advantage or obvious properties like launcher, wall/floor-break etc. isn't everything, but maybe I got it wrong.

    Man these drills are way more helpful than I could even imagine. I was wondering why over the past week I was wildly inconsistent. The first couple days I was playing god level on red ranks and towards the second half of the week I was very mediocre and slow on punishment on everything. Turns out it's because I was doing the drills for the first few days, but not after.

    I play like twice as good on the days I do drills versus the days I don't. So it's time to start doing this every day!

    I've been doing drills like these since T7 with all characters ever since I realized I need to learn how to punish stuff and to punish things properly knowing what you have to do and what's punishable is NOT ENOUGH. Glad to see that I train like a pro even though I'm far from one XD
    Some of my favorites:
    Jun df4, 1+2, df 3+4,4, df3+4, 1+2, f2, f2,1+2( the concept with f2 is to fo for launch as soon as you block it and if they do the 2nd hit it jails so then you take your turn to go for a mid-low mixup since she's safe but -9 I believe)
    Kazuya: 1,2,4,3 (low parry the 2nd hit), df2, df1,2, df1,d2 (fuzzy duck, block the 2nd hit if he goes mid avoid and go for small punish if he goes high), d1+2 (try to react)
    You can make all sorts of these. If I have the CPU do something that's launch I do the combo from wherever I happen to be and try to get the highest damage possible. Also, once I get comfortable, I try kbd, dash blocking and ss block (even other movement options like crouch-dash block, wavedash block etc if the character has access to these) while the CPU does the recorded moves to train myself to focus on reacting and punishing even while trying to move.
    A little warning though from personal experience. Set a timer to a) not get carried away and end up spending hours in practice mode (unless that's your goal) b) not spend too much time drilling cause there have been times I warmed up too much and then I was tired and played like crap once I started playing matches XD

    I've been doing these sorts of exercises to keep my brain more sharp especially for my age and I'm almost at a point where I just prefer practice mode than online ranked sessions. It may seem repetitive and boring, but believe me it's worth it and will pay off in the long term.

      Do both. Get online. Watch replay then practice. Theres a big difference if ur fighting real people

      @AZYG4LYFE Před 2 měsíci

      @@monocyte2210 No dispute about that for sure, putting the practice in action is equally as important, agreed (I just don't overindulge in online sets, just a moderate amount unless I need specific matchup exp).

      How old are you if you don't mind me asking? I fear my age catching up to me, handicapping me in faster paced competitive games. I constantly feel like I'm on a clock, pressured to get as much out of Tekken while I can

      @@shutupanddoasitellyou 32 - I would say just continue to invest a bit of time on repetitive recognition/exercise to help keep your mind sharp. For some people, not playing after a certain period of time, you can feel a gradual skill erosion.

    This has helped so much! I noticed that I can tap DF after blocking 1 but quickly block standing if wrong. Feels like a fuzzy block/parry?? I felt like I was having some things all click and come together. On another note, I also added his snake edge into the mix just because we all need to prepare for that here and there. Sometimes the slowest stuff in the midst of everything quick can throw you off so I felt it wouldn't hurt to add in!

    As a scrub with aspirations to be less scrubby, I do find a solid 30 mins of practice really helps me out. When I do practice, I always do throw break training to get my eyes to focus on the opponent's arms as well as punishment training. I like to wrap up with doing combo drills so they're fresh in my head and then run 2 or 3 Quick Matches. If the QMs go really bad, I go back to the lab and work on what I messed up on before heading into Ranked.

      Nice! A whole 30 mins is something. As a fellow scrub, I think I should take warm ups more seriously ! I particularly suck at throw break. Have you seen any improvement by now? Keep it up my friend, I'm sure you're not scrubby at all

      @@Cherilyn_45 yeah I actually break a handful of throws now as opposed to getting thrown the entire match lol. Overall, I do feel more reactive when I see the hands come out which at least gives me a chance.
