I'm PhiDX, I play Tekken professionally for @ParagonFGC and ArcadeShock. - Hry
Thank you for everything you do for the Tekken community 🙏 keep up the amazing work coach
Flippy flop
Im learning all my tech from him and Swe and im having a blast. Gotta love these guys ^^
7:25 I was REALLY hoping he was gonna say JUH-DUH-CRUH.
"jay-deck-errr!" LMFAO. I think Phi is actually acquainted with JDCR
“Do I have to worry about his lows?” Phi- “no he has to hit a lot unless u get counter hit” *proceeds to get counter hit* 😂😂😂
Ya I think that low is busted
I have to say, thank you so much for the videos you’ve been doing. Thanks to you I’m finally understanding Tekken and fighting game mechanics and language as a whole.
Because of you I’m finally playing Tekken rather than just watching. Finally understanding what I’m doing wrong when playing and actually learning.
Thank you so much for the kind words and generosity!
As a 20-year veteran of Tekken I'll say this. He learns very quick and if he sticks with it, he will become an amazing player.
I'm a veteran too and I agree, this guy has potential
@@marco19878I’m also a veteran , he is good
20 year? so you played in 2004? How old are you? I was born in 1992 and one of my first console games was tekken on the ps1, the one that came with ridge racer. Cause I always get confused when like mainmanswe says "I've been playing tekken for 30 years" when he's only 31 years old or 32. haha.

i don't even play this game, but i'm here either way
Welcome to the community

Same😅. Sucks to be poor😢
@@mariocruz591go work. 3 hrs of minimum wage and you can afford the game 😂
I love how it is like he is sitting on your lap or something bc of the avatars overlay.
Gives it Tekken grandfatherly advice vibes.
I honestly think OfflineTv brought a lot of new players to Tekken and I’m all for it ❤
It also brought a lot of Tekken players to Offline TV.
Like I had 0 knowledge that these people existed before Phi started coaching them.
His comic avatar overlayed on PhiDX's camera feed, lighting up when speaking and having accurate mouth movements but always the same facial expression no matter how intense the situation, cracks me up 😂😂
Watched this video. Proceeded to win 90% of my next matches . Promoted to Raijin in an hour after being hard stuck fujin for weeks.. Game gets so much easier. Wow great video.
What an endorsement 😁
Genuinely the best T8 content creation happening now, I love how much support there's been here for new people hopping into Tekken
23:36 the best part of this video is when Masayoshi understands that negative frame data means he can punish! 😃
This was fun as hell to watch. I'm on Red ranks as well, and although I know about these things, it's incredible how I've been neglecting basic fundamentals (and of course, struggling...)
Keep it up!
i love how you're showing folks how to use training mode more effectively! it was fun to hear Masayoshi popping off whenever you showed off something he hadn't tried before, or explained a part of the interface that wasn't clear!
now that i think about it, the idea of "recording actions" for the opposing character in a practice setting, and "playing them back" at the player's demand, isn't really possible in many other genres of games. (maybe racing games?) clear demonstrations of how that works, and how powerful these recordings can be for training, would be very helpful for players who are new to fighting games.
Very fun to watch you pick up on a flaw and workshop it with a less experienced (but talented) player. The lightbulb moment when you explained the guaranteed damage from the red -13 move was also really cool.
Also very good to know the general knowledge of lows being unsafe (as always with a few exceptions), that gives me a clear goal for the next few days, punish the lows instead of just blocking them.
Props to OfflineTv for stepping outside of their normal games and really embracing the Tekken 8 stuff.
OHHHHH! A lot of things make sense now. It feels so good to learn with people at my level.
At this point PhiDX is like a college professor who puts videos of his lectures online for people to watch.
This was my 1st Tekken i ever played consistently and competively online and I was really starting to struggle a bit in Destroyer and this video gave me so much info that I think I needed. My main problem was my defense and punishing (especially with characters like Lee, Hwoarang, Lili, etc) and the segment with the practice settings exposed so much information I never knew. I'm literally gonna go practice now and hopefully it helps me get over the hump, thank you so much!!
It's so cool watching you coach one of them at the level where you can teach a decent amount by playing against him!
Best intros and outros in the game, i love exposition haha
These emotions come from a very clear ability of understanding that certain possibilities exist. Good luck to him. Nice.
this is my first tekken game, currently raijin rn. been self teaching a lot but watching you break down this stuff helps a lot. john’s spacing after some practice could genuinely carry him to purple rank if he improved on it because he has those combos down.
besides that i just wanted to say
you’re a fucking genius for being able to play all these diff characters and show people how to punish. i was stuck in red rank on hworang for awhile. then i saw you coach OTV playing diff characters and i decided to learn a few and i got all the way to blue rank. keep up the amazing content bro
Most helpful channel on CZcams for learning Tekken, thank you
Bro your videos are helping me so much thank you keep it up 👍
I’m at about 30 hours of playtime in ranked and stuff is really starting to click. Love your videos! I literally watch everyone that comes out haha
Wow im also on red ranks, sharing the same issues as Masayoshi… This video is so helpful.
Dude your videos are so helpful even just listening
I love how you can hear the meta unlock in John's mind when he's realizing the practice mode and frame advantage stuff, and you can instantly tell that this alone is going to get him back into grinding the game, because now there's limitless grinding and analysis to be done. He LOVES this stuff
Thank you so much phidx!!
Your content is helping me and I def need to learn some more:)
I’ve been struggling with understanding input buffering! One day, if you could, could ya make a video regarding it?
Thanks! Your videos are insanely informative. Ive been a SF player since SF2 and ive always liked and respected Tekken but never fully immersed myself until 8. I actually never donate but for you, I will. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for the generosity!
Love this guy's enthusiasm
lol John saw the light , he was so shocked after knowing the fundamentals , ggs boiis ,
great teacher and great student
I would kill for a coaching session like this. I feel like I am not making anymore progress and have a really hard time diagnosing how to get through that mental block. There are just some things that I really struggle with that I cannot seem to improve on. Either way love your content. Keep up the great work.
I Love this channel so much. Itz so wholesome.
Cant wait to see how he has developed in the follow up video
Watching this made me feel like my gameplay leveled up x100. Thank you!
Perfection 🔥🔥
We have the same BGMs but placed in different stages, you have great taste lol
Not me watching all phidx videos yet can't even afford tekken 8, good stuff phi!
i like to think about advantage frames as being able to act x frames earlier than the opponent. different method but same result. It was great seeing his reaction to learning about frames. I'm new to tekken but ive played a bunch of guilty gear so i know basic stuff
A Dragunov player asking "is he afk?" In response to jailing his opponent is hilarious lol
7:45 one of your recent videos you said when you backdash and create space people tend to run up and low, unless they’re azucena. I played a Xiayou, did the back dash parry like you showed in example to her, then faced and azu and tried and got blasted for it like you mentioned. 😂 but I’ve ranked up twice in the past two days thank you for the help!!
same with Dragunov and Nina
When he was talking about punishing lows all I hear in my head is Aris yelling "While standing 4! While standing 4!" at some poor Paul player
Damn the more I watch these tekken coaching videos the more I feel respect for those that make it to blue or higher without coaching. Imagine how strong some of those unknown blue + players would be if they had solid coaching.
I think everybody at 34:56 let out an audible OHHH! When he hit the launch punish after the low block.
youre such a homie for this one I just hit wall and this is gonna help
LOL it’s always so interesting seeing someone learn how to lab for the first time.
I think we witnessed the birth of a labbing fiend. That said, after he's mastered T8 training mode and leveled up his game, I'd love to see John how learns an older fighting game that doesn't have all of the shiny current gen training mode features.
“I’ll catch you on the flippy flop” idk why but that sounded cool af to me 😅
“That’s what that means!?” Bro i feel you 🥲😂💯
This was the funniest coaching i've ever seen, that guy is funny as f
Hey Phi, I love all of your coaching videos, I am a ps5 player used to playing on ds5 but I just bought a Razer kitsune and honestly my hands just don’t know what to do, do you have any advice on drills to help adapt to a hitbox?
i need a coach like this sweet jesus
I'm emotionally dependent on PhiDX content
yo i did not know there was a punish trainer, aside from the replay tip thing which i used for a couple chars but thats nuts
i need more time in the lab lol
Yo this video was so damn insightful Jesus … shit I wanna pay for some coaching now lol
Hit battle ruler. First tekken with dbfz being my first FG🤙🏽
Oh baby fresh PhiDX straight outta the oven
as a fellow dragunov main yes we do really need to learn fundamentals ngl
masayoshi is a natural
3:08 is so real. I use a leverless for SF but it deels incredibly foreign with tekken so ive just been sticking with pad. Pulling off electrics in practice mode with leverless no sweat, actually playing the game with it and im fumbling
Heheh 33:37 was funny with "As long as you're not getting counter hit, it's fine" with an immediate counter hit
whats the difference between "while standing" and "While rising"? Great vid, finally some drag gameplay!!
Both are interchangeable, usually in the community WR means while running, not while rising.
I'm from LOL too need this coaching !!
You can do a flck jab before f2,2 on that combo on steve
36:24 this is how people become good, it's not about winning, it's about learning to get stronger
Phidx is the future goat tekken content creator
I just realized I got really good for some one who start very late in tekken 7
CNS (central nervous system) strain on leverless is very low, especially when compared to pad or even lever. Have tried all of them and leverless absolutely is the best by far as long as you dont play Mishimas. Now, for Mishimas this would not be as straight forward as you loose some control if you want to be fast, but that might be probably doable once gotten used to.
coach goat
33:31
"Do I really have to worry about his lows?"
'Nah, lars's lows he really has to hit a lot of them. As long as you're not getting counterhit it's fine'
immediately gets ch launched by a low. the timing was just too perfect. haha
Hey, @PhiDX, how does one get you to coach them like that? Do you sell these sessions?
PhiDX the Goat coach 🙌
was a good watch 👀
i now can low parry well. but sometimes it screws me over if i look for it too much. mids will catch me
Watching john’s session compared to lily’s is crazy
He should pick asuka to start. That is the intro character. So they learn the power of defense
Hey man would you do something like this for money? If so is there somewhere that has info about that?
can someone pls tell me the music playing at 8:26 during their first match c:
Thanks Phi! Watching this video makes me realize just how f#king disgusting dragunov is in this game. 😂
What are the dancing noctis animations and the hand pounding animations from at the end of the video? I tried searching for T7 but no luck.
Modded Noctis over Bryan
9:26 sickest b1 ever
So satisfying. Rewatched about 5 times and came to the conclusion that phi had read john liked that move woth drag and just threw it with knowledge that he would do that move even though it wasnt really his turn but john chose to use a more unsafe move at that point
not punishing properly is a big thing for me to. i got pretty good defense and whiff punishment but it's always with a simple jab or some i dunno low thing. the ws 2 for a launcher just does not work in my brain as the timing is so weird to me. i always press 2 before he is actually rising from crouch :v if i could actually launch on every oppertunity i would rise past red rank i feel.
Me before match: analyze, neutral game, punish, sidestep, play with dignity and patience.
Me, a Feng player, as soon as match starts: TIO!!!!!!
I wonder if Masayoshi has ever seen Father if not hope he does
2:31 i never noticed the ufo in the background what the hell xd
First of all that was an alpaca!
How do I get in line for coaching
How do you reach Tenryu without knowing the basics about punishing. Is dragunov that OP ?
People in blue ranks still don't punish
33:36 "as long as youre not getting counter hit"
*immediately gets counter hit*
Finally someone who doesnt blame junglers. Ps: I cried
i'm still mad masayoshi doesn't play yoshi
if i get enough money i will buy this game
The man who played the game on a guitar hero controller
you can while standing after most low blocks in this game, I think. Even if you get blown up for doing it you now know "ok that does not work against that move" haha.
Edit: nvm Phi said this in the video at 22:15... Yeah see I knew I wasn't THAT bad at Tekken. 😂 I got my ass beat alot but I got to purple my kryptonite is grabs, I'm literally too OLD for grabs speed, they need to slow them down for boomers >:(
PhiDX is gonna have an army of non Tekken player getting to the high ranks
what is that note pad?
I picked up Reina a couple weeks ago after playing my main King (since T3), I learned no combos for like the first week and just did pokes/footsies trying to learn.
Also Personal Opinion: If you are reading a low that doesnt stagger, you have no reason not to low parry.
A launching orbital or hopkick is generally better though.
If it's a hard read, otherwise it's more risky, obviously.
What did you think of that approach? Was it effective?
Also, the reason I don’t personally low parry every low poke I read is because it requires more certainty around the timing it’s going to come out at, but otherwise I agree
@zenodio3D I used to hopkick a lot, it got less effective when I get poked out of it. I try to parry lows like drags d2. I also can't block slow lows at all lol. I just think I have so much time then I die lol
@6thdim I thought it worked well, gave me a better understanding of the character in neutral as well. Not trying to plug my own channel on someone else's vid but it's up on there.
I'll low parry trying to steal my turn back.
@@Blind_Death yeah, but the good thing is your opponents combo damage doesn't scale very well since you were airborne when they poked you out of the hopkick.
Sometimes I think I eat more slow lows than fast ones 😅
There's a lot of stuff I haven't to relearn, I had a long break from Tekken before 8 came out.
You pulled out the "I don't really talk about this much since everyone loves leverless" and I was afraid you were gonna just call it OP, since that's the kind of popular non-leverless-player take, but you have a really balanced opinion! I think a lot of stick players zero in on the stuff that leverless does better or easier (ewgf, pewgf, etc) but they have absolutely no clue the places where physical limitations of the hardware and of your hands come in to play and make things harder. KBD is, imo, a little easier to pick up and start doing really bad ones on leverless, but at high level you can't really push it to any faster of a speed than a good stick player. There's the holes/tendencies you pointed out in the video, of course, which is a good observation, and there's also inputs that are outright harder, due to being very unnatural and difficult to do smoothly.
For example, xiaoyu has a technique that can be used for super minmaxed combos where she does a while rising 2 FROM BACKTURN, which involves turning around and then crouching for six frames before releasing and pressing 2 as quickly as possible. Xiaoyu can't exit backturn by pressing forward, so she has to press upforward, and the input ends up being upforward > forward > downforward, which is difficult but very natural on stick, you just push it to the top corner gate and roll it down. On leverless, however, there's no continuity like there is for bottom-of-the-gate half circle motions, so you're having to coordinate button presses between two hands probably at a very unnatural timing. It's like you said, a lot of hard things are made easy, but a lot of easy things also randomly become very hard. It's a different input method, it's got pros and cons.
Totally see where you’re coming from, but the whole “it has pros and cons” doesn’t disqualify the main issue. People hating on leverless are speaking from the perspective of both players having the ability to control their character at a high level with minimal to no execution error. With that in mind, there are certain actions like EWG and PEWG that reach a level of consistency that matters in tournament play. Never missing an electric simply changes the game.
If you use the SOCD method while only hitting the edges of the buttons you can do a perfect KBD easily. I've seen people do it consistently on both sides in person.
You can press forward and backward at the same time. Its a cheater box by design 🤷
33:31 "As long as you are not getting counter hit [by Lars' lows] you are fine-" Get counterhit by db4 lol.
Im tenryu and knew all of this already. HOW did he ever get tenryu without knowing what a punish or frame advantage is?
Thats crazy.
Many avenues to win
@@PhiDX aka play dragunov. Tk8 has the most carried champs.
Dude, I am a Kazuya player currently at tenryu, for me it would be impossible to achieve my rank without knowledge about frames, punishment, basic checks df1 properties and some basic matchups knowledge. I didn't know Dragunov is that strong 😂.
