- Hey folks 🤗 If you liked my last video showing a simple recipe for liquid castile (olive oil) soap, you'll love this one too! It's very similar and just as easy to make. This tutorial is a more casual affair. I couldn't get any demineralised water for diluting my soap paste, so I did an ad-hoc thing and used some filtered, sterilized rain water instead. It turned out really good! Liquid soap making is fun 😀

Very nice video!Looking forward to your 100% coconut oil liquid soap for dish washing .
Hi Elly. Thank you for this tutorial. I thought I would try this today. Unfortunately my pH strip is turning blue. I think it means it's basic. I have cooked it for an hour and a half now. I am afraid it's not good for the skin. How can I reduce the pH at this stage? Would adding citric acid solution help?
Hi Elly, I am really enjoying watching your videos. Thank you for everything thing. I am looking forward to see your videos with coconut liquid soap making. Thank you🙏🙏🙏😊
This precautionly youre handling the chemical. Then how much harmuful to this when we apply as soap for body and hair
?
Elly's you've been really good. But please can this soaps be good for bathing. Please answer me. Thanks a lot,I've learnt so much from you
You are amazing and wonderful I so so appreciate your videos. I am totally blind and have wanted to try making my own soap. They have talking scales and talking measurement devices so it is some thing I know I could do. Other video start off by talking, but then they just go into their Music and don’t give me any measurements and I so appreciate your talking through the videos. You are a clear person you’re clear concise I really appreciate your videos. Thank you.🥹😆🦋❤️❤️❤️
I love soap making. It’s so satisfying to end up with a product that you’ll use everyday. Thanks Ellie! You’re such a great teacher! :)
Love it looks so easy to make! I'm trying this tomorrow! Thank you so much
You are an absolute gem. Love watching your channel. Very easy to follow and learn.
Bless you Elly
I’ve been wanting a recipe for rice bran oil. I’m excited to learn how.
I made it last month its amazing ❤
Wow, Elly, I do have to try that one! It looks lovely and you are absolutely right using waht you have. Thank you very much again!😃
You'll love it Sonja! Great example of simple things in life being the best :)
Interesting recipe Elly
I may have to find a crock pot when I return to Aus and try the hot process out, I think on top of stove would be trickier.
Nothing wrong with recycling bottles I’m all for it and good to see that included removing things like cordial labels. Thanks Elly good to see you again.
Hi Elly, I hope you’re well. I just wanted to tell you that I tried this soap recipe. This was my first liquid soap and it turned out beautifully. I like it so much I’m on my 2nd batch. Thank you for this very comprehensive video. You’re a great teacher. I made your cp coffee soap a couple years ago. That is a great soap! Thanks again, Elly! Have a great weekend!
Thank you Elly for detailed information on preparing rice bran liquid soap. Thoroughly enjoyed the process😇🧿
Thank you, you're very welcome!
Thank you for showing . It is really nice🙏🙏😊
Thanks for sharing. Saving to try later.
Thankyou for this simple explanation.. love how you recycle stuff as well. 🌺
Thanks Nerina :)
Hi Ellie, this looks really simple to make. I can't decide whether to try this one first, or your olive oil version. Wonderful tutorial as always. Thank you!
Thank you Chris - they are quite similar. Which oil do you have on hand? That would be the decider for me :)
Just made the soap yesterday. Was shocked at how quickly it came together. It is like honey.... just wonderful. I have made the olive oil soap too and it is fabulous as well. Both soaps are very gentle and I use them in the shower and to do dishes and for handwashing. I think the rice bran oil soap is my favourite for feel.
Yes, I think so too! Wonderful soap. Who knew? Thanks for your feedback Cara :)
Thank YOU so much for sharing ❤❤❤😊
I make liquid soap without the crockpot. Just bring it to a thick trace. Then cover it and leave it alone for a few hours. I dilute 20 ozs soap paste with 40 ozs water. Very thick liquid soap at the end of the process
She actually has a video making it on the stove. If you haven't seen it, check it out. She is very informative and humble. I love her channel. I have learned so much here.
I remember reading somewhere that if you use 5% (or so) sodium hydroxide (dual lye) you will produce a much thicker soap. Looking forward to seeing that experiment by Elly the soap genius😊😉🙂
Yes!!! I am VERY keen to try that out. Will be a first for me. Thanks for the encouragement! :)
I heard that as well and looking forward to trying it.
@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking have you been able to try this yet, Elly?
I finally got around to making my first ever batch of soap today. I saw your video, chatted with you and bought all the ingredients a year ago. Mine also reached trace very fast, but I also had it rather hot and wasn't quite expecting that level of exothermic reaction from the KOH. Thanks again Elly!!
Very nice... thank you for sharing 😍
The way you talk things through gives such a natural touch to the video. Well done on all levels
Thanks so much Paul
You are an awesome person! God bless you for sharing all your knowledge. I appreciate you and you efforts sooooo much! thank you, Elly.
So nice of you
Having recently discovered your channel - and loving it! - I've now created my own 'soapbox' with all the necessary utensils. It's a great idea and keeps everything handy when the urge strikes.
Lovely! Yes I love my little box :)
Thank you Elly
Superb video. Many thanks for the in depth explanation. i have not yet tried liquid soap so I think I will start with this one.
That's fantastic! Have fun. I love these simple recipes.
I'm excited to see another liquid soap recipe.
Thanks Suzanne :)
Wonderful! Thank you 👍
Thank you so much! I appreciate it. :)
Love it! Definitely giving this a go soon. Everyone loves the Castile Soap so they can try this one next.(I've even used it on Nige after he's rolled in fox poo - it works like a charm) I've been trying George's liquid soap recipes too with much success. Thank you Elly - all the very best to you
Trish
PS I managed to get the Jackie Thompson book on LS for £2!!!!! Everyone else wanted over £30??? Happy days 👍
That's wonderful Trish! Oh Nige, FOX POO??!! My cat Kevin rolls in the dirt constantly, most likely possum poo in the mix at our place. Glad Nigel has some good cleansing options. That's superb about the book find! Go you!!
Eow it did thicken fast! I like how you recycle old plastic bottles too. My shopping list now has plastic sheeting from Bunnings on it! Great video as always Elly, thank you.
oh, that's good to know! Thank you for watching, Aannsha. :)
Thank you for sharing this. I reuse all my plastic bottles. I remember my mother always making batches of lye soap when we lived on the farm.
I love that. You're very welcome :)
thanks Elly, very help full vedio
I love how detailed your videos are! 😊
I’ve been trying to find out why people want to thicken soap, and not just use less water instead. I’ve looked and looked, and no one explains _why_ they need to dilute them so much, that they need to be thickened up afterwards.
But stopping the skin forming makes a lot of sense. Finally an answer to my age old question, lol. 😁
Yay!! I'm so glad you appreciated this.
Hi Elly, I found your channel about a week ago and been watching as many videos as time will allow -- it's made me so so inspired to try soap making. For the last month or so I've been quietly gathering up equipment on sale and finding consumables. Huge fun. I'm the kind of person who will research for ages until I feel really confident then start with the hands-on making. I make my own pigments for watercolours and there is a science in this as well. So soap making seems suited to my way of thinking. You are so generous with your advice and knowledge, I want to say a big thank you from newbies like me.
I keep coming across a method in the cold process making where the lye solution is added to the saturated fats to melt them, (heat transfer) which somehow reduces the curing time? I don't understand the science in this. Thank you :-)
Hi J. Thank you! Yes the heat transfer method is a great way to make soap, but it does nothing to reduce cure time.
Thanks Elly, great video, lather is nice, looks like a good soap to use all rounder 🙏🙏🙏 I like the clear cover you got from Bunnings
Thanks George, another really basic recipe (which you know I love). Yep I love that clear PVC sheeting. You can buy it by the meter at Bunnings. I've had this piece for years.
Great video, I just love this. I will give it a try.
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing
You are the reason that I am making soap today. I have learned so much from you I am truly blessed to have you in my life. Therefore continue doing what you do and may the Lord bless you in your endeavors I am truly speechless. And if I had one wish it would be just to sit down with you and make some soap have a good day
Thank you so much Cavarena, I appreciate that a lot!
Hi Elly! Everyone has said what I want to say, so my short comment is "brilliant video and demo". Thank you so much 🐾🥰
Thank you Marion, glad you enjoyed it :)
Finally. Finally I got my answer for my problem thickening my liquid dish soap with salt solution. Mostly coconut oil - and of course, I failed every time. Maybe I have to use much less water than I thought. Thank you, Elly!
Great to help you Susanne! Yes, coconut oil liquid soap can dissolve with much less water in the dilution. I think I'll make that my next LS video!
Hi Ellie I thought I'd update you on what happened. I made this wonderful soap, and it is on my kitchen sink to use as a quick hand wash when cooking. I thought it would be nice to add jojoba beads for a little extra scrubby-ness and color. They all floated to the top. LOL When that container got low, I decided to change the fragrance up and the next batch on the sink would have the fragrance "geranium rose" essential oil. Smells wonderful. BUT it accelerates CP and I thought use this in liquid soap since I can't use in CP. Well, it thickened up this liquid soap to a soft gel. Great consistency for the soap I think plus the jojoba beads now disburse perfectly! Sometimes mistakes are fun!
Whoa! That's so interesting Danni! Thanks for sharing with me. I am keen to put some rose geranium EO into my liquid soap now. I have a friend who would just love that :)
Danni, did you add the EO to individual bottles after making the liquid soap? I’ve been wondering when would be the best time to add it.
Yes I added the EO to the individual container. That way I can switch it up if I want to.
@@dannijoshua1292 - thank you. Do you measure by intensity or by ratio?
LOL, I wing it! If it's a fragrance, I check the usage rate by percentage but I mostly use EO, my preference.
Love the video and the recipe.. made and gifted it to family .. everyone loves it.. ❤️
We cant seem to make enough of this soap😂 can we double the recipe as is..?
Thank you. God bless

Hello Elly!🌟Thank you for sharing! I see your kitty made her/his debut 🐈 😍
Thanks Vivian! Yeh he gets into a lot of my videos. He's really cute in this one over on the bread channel czcams.com/video/MnGL6UTW7fs/video.html
I got a used crockpot at Value Village for soap making. Also I prefer to store my soap in glass jars washed out from sauces or pickles etc and glass canning jars which I have. Easy to sterilize everything in the dishwasher when it’s glass.
That's a fantastic tip about the glass jars. I like to store mine in glass bottles too! Even passata bottles work well. Love the second hand crock pot - mine was second hand as well :)
"burp the blender"
🤣🤣 the most original hilarious and accurate way of describing tapping out air bubbles with the stick blender before turning it on to blend
It's true! I actually learnt that from another soap maker :)
Great video!
Thanks Belinda!
Since watching your liquid soap video about a year ago, I always have soap pasted in my fridge, ready to dilute, add essential oil and fill the soap pump. I used it all the time and love it. Favorite smells are lemongrass or rosemary in the kitchen. Lavender in the bathroom . Thanks for amazing videos. I was making cold process soap for a few years and have now added liquid soap since I found your channel.
So wonderful Chantal, thanks for sharing.
👍
Hi your recipe is verry good
👍👍👍
Hi Elly, I have rewatch your videos over and over again, and each time i watch it, I felt like my confidence in soap making increases! Thanks for the amazing work! I have a question about using these liquid soap in foaming bottle, the usual soap:water would be 1:4, would it still be the same ratio for self-made liquid soap?
Thanks Ruby, it depends on the recipe and oils used. Might be a good starting point.
Fantastic video Elly. I loved seeing your cat in the background. I could tell from Kitties backwards ears that the stick blender sound is not a fan favorite!!😂😂Bless. My doggies hate it when I make soap. This recipe looks wonderful. I still haven’t been brave and made a liquid soap but itching to do. This recipe makes me less nervous to try! Thank you so much. 😊
Thanks for your comment, I'm so glad these videos are helping you! I really love sharing these very simple recipes. They are a great place to start :) My kitty gets into the background of lots of my videos. He's such a sweetie.

Hi Elly! I’m trying this recipe and it’s my first time doing hot process. Wish me luck! I hope to get it right. My question is , I want to add scent on this, can I just put it in at a certain time? When can I add it? Also, in the video how long did it take all in all from the time you shut off the crock pot and left it overnight? I love how you explain everything. I just don’t want to make a mistake doing this. Thanks so much and more blessings to you! 🙏🏾😊
Hi Ely, sorry if my questions are confusing but I figured it out from watching the videos again and going through your website. I just did the recipe and it turned out well. Yay! Is this mild enough to use for baby’s skin, unscented or Castile soap is milder for babies? Thanks again for teaching us how to make beautiful soaps.
Awesome video as always, thanks for that. Tried looking for the plastic sheet on bunnings, do you recall what it’s called?
Thanks Tom. It's just PVC sheeting. They have it on a roll, you can buy by the meter. I think Spotlight has it too but the Bunnings one is thicker so much more sturdy.
Hi Elly, I love your videos! Do you make a soap for shampoo? Or do you simply use the other bar soaps for shampoo? Thank you so much for all your wonderful recipes! I love making your soaps!
I just use regular store bought shampoo at the moment. Soap makes my scalp itchy! I would like to try this though, just haven't done so yet. There are no hard and fast ways to make shampoo soap recipes - but I think anything gentle will work pretty well! I do have one recipe on the channel from years ago if you want to check that out :)
Hi Elly I love your videos. I started making soap bar at home after watching your videos ☺️ .Now want to ask you can we use any other oil such as soya been or sunflower seeds oil etc? Can we use it as shampoo also?
Hi, yes of course, you can use all kinds of oils to make liquid soap! This video shows how to calculate a recipe using the low superfat method czcams.com/video/dBPmh4UpoHk/video.html I haven't tried this as a shampoo yet, but I think it could be good with a mild acidic rinse to follow :)
Love this! Will try this .. I am so used to making cold process bar soaps 😀 Can I make this in a steel deep saucepan with lid on double boiler... will keep the heat on lowest.. I do not have a crockpot 😥
Thanks Papia! Yes, you can definitely make this on the stove. Just use very low or even intermittent heat. Double boiler is okay as long as you are very careful!
@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking thank you Elly!
Dear Ellie, I tried making 100% olive oil ( I used extra virgin organic) liquid soap last week following your one part glycerine technique added to the lye water... I am not sure what I did wrong but I obtained a "crumbly jello" very alkaline result... as I diluted the paste the soap was clear, which I assume shows all the oil was saponified? I had to use a citric acid solution to buffer the alkalinity of the soap but the paste looks really jello like (and not pliable vaselin-y like as it should...) ... do you have any suggestions? Oh - and my KOH purity is 91..1% so I recalculated the amounts as you recommended in the video)... Thank you again for your kindness of sharing your art and expertise with us!
Hi Elly, Thank you for this wonderful video.
I added 20% coconut oil in this recipe and skipped adding glycerine and essential oils. When heating the soap did not become translucent even after heating on water bath for 2+ hours. What could be the problem here?
Hi Ellie. Love your videos. Is there a trick to making these soaps with more lather? Sugar?
Yes, sugar in the water before the lye is mixed in would boost it a bit. Mainly it's about the oils though. You'd need to use a recipe with some coconut oil in for a better lather. Like this one czcams.com/video/_WPIMsLk1P8/video.html
11:04 kitty appears😺
He's such a cutie.
Hi Elly, what would happen if too much salt was added? Is there a maximum recommended salt amount?
Thanks for sharing Elly. If you want more lather... would you just add some caster oil?
I'd formulate a recipe with some coconut oil in it for more lather. This one is a good example, has both coconut and castor czcams.com/video/_WPIMsLk1P8/video.html If you'd like to work out your own recipe, this video shows how I do the low superfat method czcams.com/video/dBPmh4UpoHk/video.html
Wow I didn't know you could make liquid soap that was natural. I definitely want to do this as we go through so much soap in our house and they all have horrible chemicals in like SLS. Can I make this without a crock pot? I don't have one, could I cook in a saucepan over a very low heat? Thank you for your lovely videos, I have watched a few now and I love them. I'm in the UK and love hearing the birds and insects in the background too :) xx
Thank you Crystal, yes you can use a pot on the stove, but use very low heat and be prepared to turn it off and back on again - you don't want your paste to go above 75-80°C if you can help it!
Go to Vinnies and tip shops. I got a slow cooker for $5.00. It didn’t have a lid but I recently picked up a lid and the insert for $6.50. So now I have two inserts. Also I have seen them as cheap as $25.00 in Woolworths.
Hi Elly. Thank you for all these great videos…very informative and easy to follow recipes ❤️ do you think you can make Shampoo Bars one day? 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
Thank you! Yes, I've already made on shampoo soap video, but never made syndet shampoo bars - perhaps one day!
And conditioner bars 🙏❤🙏❤🙏
Hi Elly, I'm excited to try this recipe! Please tell me, is the crockpot on high the whole time? Thank you 😊
Thanks Danni! I turned it down once it started getting close to the right temperature. About 75°C/165°F is what you're aiming for.
@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking ok thanks, good to know.
Hi Elly
Update:. I successfully made this soap! And I love it!
Also, I thought I'd soup-it-up a little by adding a few jojoba beads. Looks fun, but they floated back to the top after a few hours. They don't stay disbursed. Oh well, still great soap. Thank you.
Thank you so much to share , do you think we should add a preservative?
That's a very controversial question Denise! I don't know the correct answer, except to say that I've never used one for my homemade soap (not for sale)
Hi Elly! This looks so simple, I’ll definitely have a go!
How do you think it would go as shampoo??
I am allergic to Sodium Laurel sulfate so I have to use the SLS free shampoo which can be expensive so I just use my home made soap, which is great but I have been wondering about making a liquid soap 🧼
I think this could be excellent, but I haven't tried it yet. Got to do that soon!
@@minpin8257 it does go a bit dry, that’s why i always use a leave in conditioner after I’ve towel dried, but regular shampoo does that too if you don’t use a conditioner so it doesn’t worry me that it’s dry after washing
@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking hey Elly, I’m wanting to make this and try it as a shampoo, I was just wondering what it means when the cleansing properties in soap calc is 0.0? Should I be adding an oil that has higher cleansing properties or just ignore that?

I love your whiskee thing..really old school..did you buy from second hand store? Or new online?
I honestly can't remember, I've had it that long. I think I bought it from a local kitchenware shop.
Hi Ellie, thanks for these great videos :) Question: Could this soap be used to wash dishes, or would it leave a film on them? I know you've made a bar soap for washing dishes before, but if the rice bran and olive oil liquid soaps aren't suitable for dishes, then do you have any recipes using the potassium hydroxide to make a liquid dish washing soap? Thanks ~ Linda
Thanks for your question - I think I'll have to make that my next video! I use this soap (all my soaps in fact) to wash dishes, and they all work really well. If you rinse your dishes then there will be no film :)

Hi Elly thanks for the great videos I’m just starting out. Hi, thank you for this video. Can you use sodium hydroxide in this recipe instead of Potassium hydroxide??
No, that would be for a bar soap recipe, and it would need to be recalculated.
Great liquid soap making demonstration. Couple of questions. You say the rice bran oil is old, in that case will it go rancid and smell awful or is it still in date. Also like CP will the soap last as long as the date of the oil you are using . Lastly do you need less essential oil to fragrance liquid soap as you need for cp soap. I find the smell fades somewhat with cp soap while curing and storing. Thank you 😁
Thanks Siobhan. Great questions! My rice bran oil was definitely out of date. I didn't want to waste it though, and it still smelled good, so I made soap with it. I'm not selling it or giving it to anyone, so it's ok for me. As a home/hobby soap maker I think this is perfectly okay! I wouldn't advise anyone do this if the oil smelled bad though. And yes, I definitely use a lot less EO in liquid soap. Usually about 1% of the finished soap weight.
@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking thank you, making liquid soap is on my to do list. Watching you makes it looks so easy, will definitely be giving it a go now. Have made a couple of your recipes and they all turned out great. 🥰👍
Wonderful as.always, thanks! I have a questio,n. What to do when the allí bottle of lye is hard solid? Thanks!!!
Ooh, that's tricky. Can you break it up? That probably means it has some moisture in it, which makes it hard to measure accurately. I'm not sure how you'd use that. Perhaps dispose of it carefully and get a new batch, make sure you store it in a very low-moisture environment! And sealed very well.

@@EllysEverydaySoapMaking so can i use glycerin? If so at what percentage of tow?
Hii Elly...can you help me to choose ecofriendly or biodegradable preservative for liquid soap. Thank you so much.
I can't advise on that unfortunately - I've never used preservatives in my soap making. There are plenty of websites that could advise you though if you do a search :)
Hello! I love rice bran oil and I have a big 7 lb bottle I need to use up! I was wondering if you add preservatives to your soap.
Thank you!
Great! This would be a great way to use it. No, I never use preservatives for my home made LS, but many soap makers do. It's a hotly debated topic!
Wowah amazing video mam but I have a little doubt whether we can add other types of hydrosol instead of distilled water orelse half distilled water and half hydrosol can you please answer my question mam.

Hi Elly! I did an experiment of swapping the 100% KOH as per your recipe for 30% NaOH + 70% KOH. after 45 min of cooking on WARM (instead of your 30min) PH was still 10.3. Is that an ok PH? Many thanks! I love your work
Did you recalculate the recipe for the NaOH? You'd need to. I think the pH sounds a bit too high for me. I like to get mine down to 8-9 at most.
I wanted to try this recipe for liquid soap so I put the ingredients through Soapcalc I found the cleansing and bubbly way below the recommended levels. Both only scored 1 when the recommended was 12 -22 for cleansing and 14-46 for bubbly. Does the vegetable glycerine address this in the recipe?
That's normal for a soap like this. It's still soap though, and is lovely and gentle on the hands. Be aware that the ranges on soap calculators refer mainly to bar soap recipes. This video explains more czcams.com/video/dBPmh4UpoHk/video.html
Hi Elly, i just made this today. How long before you can use it..does it take time to be safe to use. Ive tested it with the PH test papers and it is 8..but i tried a wee bit on my hands and wanted to see the latter. Not much..but also it burnt/stung the back of my hands..did i use it too soon? Dear Elly, for what all purposes do you use this? Thanks
Mostly for washing hands in the bathroom and kitchen. It's a gentle soap, perfect for hands and body washing.
which one of Hydroxides is better for Liquid Soap making?
You need potassium hydroxide for liquid soap recipes.
Hi Elly can I use for my hair? Liquid shampoo
You can try! I haven't tried it yet.
What is the salt to water ratio for your solution? Also, do you use any preservatives for your liquid soap?
I put those details in the video and the written recipe on my blog :)
Thank you dear , if we add fragrance at what time have to add ? 🙂
The details are in the recipe, link in description :)
I have some leftover oils. I have olive oil, coconut oil and corn oil. Can I mix them all? Any measurements that I need to take into consideration?

Hi Elly, thanks for the video! I tried to make it today it was my first time making liquid soap and I think I’ve wrecked it! I think I did not let the paste cook enough before I added the dilution water. It’s been cooking fir about 8 hours but so still have that skin on too even though I kept adding more water, stirring then leaving another half hour. Temp was highest at 60 Celsius. I just turned it off and will check tomorrow morning - hoping for a miracle, lol
Any advice? Is it rubbish?
It's probably fine. Sounds like you need more water to dilute it fully?
Thanks so much for your reply! I’m still working on it and the skin has reduced to more like a thin foamy layer that bubbles when I stir it… and returns when it settles. The Ph strip is 10 and it also passed the “zap test” lol. I’m thinking to leave it sit a few days then give it a hand wash test. Hopefully bottle it up after that 😍🙏

Is potassium hydroxide different to the lye we usually use
Yes. Potassium hydroxide makes liquid soap, sodium hydroxide for bar soap. This page explains www.ellyseveryday.com/soap-making-terms
