    Watch the whole video! She added more water that is not in the description. Overall great video. Ph is really high. You can lower it by using citric acid. Make a solution of 50/50 water and citric acid and add drops till you reach a ph of 6 at least.

      this is a liquid soap not wash...
      reducing the ph below 7.0- 7.5 will turn to a gooey mass that is no longer soap...
      soaps normally sit at 8.0 min 7.5, anything below this levels is calling for trouble to throw out the whole soap...
      i may be wrong but i speak from experience

    Good video, I’m learning how to make my own liquid Castile soap. I do wonder if that pH of 10 isn’t little high. The other videos I’ve watched, the soap maker tries for a pH of between 8 & 9. 10 just seems a bit high for something potentially used as a body wash. Like Insaid, I’m new to this but perhaps the lye to oil ratio is a bit high maybe?

    • @3baashandmadesoaps937
      @3baashandmadesoaps937  Před 5 měsíci

      Thank you. From my understanding a ph of 8-10 is within a good range. I personally haven’t had any issues or complaints and my soaps are always around the 8-10 mark. You can always lower the ph with a little citric acid.

I think I might have over cooked mine just a tad 🤣🤣oops 🤣. You can always turn it down a notch as well. Just be sure to turn it completely off once it’s done cooking and let it sit over night.

    One more question ... does it matter what temp the alkali solution (NaOH and KOH) are when they are added to the oils? They are very hot at first when mixed ... should they cool down?

    • @3baashandmadesoaps937
      @3baashandmadesoaps937  Před 8 měsíci

      No you don’t wait on it to cool. Just add it directly to the oils while it’s still hot.

    • @brightchange6065
      @brightchange6065 Před 8 měsíci +1

      I think it worked! The mixture thickened very quickly after adding the lye solution, even before I added the glycerine. The oils were pretty hot, over 160, maybe that's why.
      At first the mixture was oily and separated-looking but, over time, it came together and became homogenous. It's not quite done but it's getting a translucent quality, it's been about 2-1/2 hrs. I will continue to keep a close eye on it. I plan to add a fragrance ... I'll let you know how it comes out! Thank you again.

      I think it's done! I have another question .. is the dilution based on the weight of the finished PASTE or the weight of the original OILS?
      I used your recipe which used 20 oz of oils but I have 27 oz of finished paste.
      For a 2:1 dilution, should I add 40 (2 x 20) oz of water or 54 (2 x 27)?
      I'm a nerdy chemist and used to work in a laboratory with dangerous chemicals and complicated procedures, so maybe that experience helped me ... I

      Hey so for fragrance oils I’m not sure I don’t add any fragrance to my soaps I only use essential oil. My best advice would be to use a fragrance calculator. I’ve made liquid soap a few times but haven’t added any essential oils to them just yet.
