Everyone's experienced the fatigue, short temper and lack of focus that often follow a poor night's sleep.
An occasional night without sleep makes you feel tired and irritable the next day, but it won't harm your health.
After several sleepless nights, the mental effects become more serious. Your brain will fog, making it difficult to concentrate and make decisions. You'll start to feel down, and may fall asleep during the day. Your risk of injury and accidents at home, work and on the road also increases.
If you seem to catch every cold and flu that's going around, your bedtime could be to blame. Prolonged lack of sleep can disrupt your immune system, so you're less able to fend off bugs.

Yep, absolutely.
Possibly apnea, your body may be waking you up because your airway is collapsed not allowing oxygen to lungs and brain. A sleep study will let your doctor know, sleep studies can now be done at home. I now have a CPAP machine 👍 Best of luck to you. 🙏

I mean, I'm now drinking 37 different cups of tea everyday; to wake me up after rising, to relax while driving, to aid digestion, to stimulate oxytocin to help relate to boring work colleagues, to dampen inflammation, to help detox, to lower blood sugar, to aid memory, to aid circulation, to aid rejuvenation, to protect my cardio system, to quiet my parasympathetic system, to keep my testosterone at peak level and me wife happy, etc.
Oh yeah, to maintain a healthy bladder and kidneys... etc, etc, etc.

It's easy to fall asleep in the military because you're always exhausted.
Plus for airborne waiting to jump your anxiety is so high is actually puts you a sleep

My Dad was a WW2 veteran. He slept straight on his back. I believe he used some similar strategy, & went to sleep rapidly.
2 weeks after coming home from Vietnam, I went to sleep one night. I got up around midnight to pee, went back to sleep. Slept that night, 1st day, 2nd night, 2nd day, and till sun up the 3rd night. There is a tired you get after sleeping with one eye open for a year.

@@IHACKER316 no, 3 nights and 2 days straight except to get up to pee that first night. This didn’t happen until I had been home about 2 weeks. Then I guess it dawned on my subconscious mind that it was ok to sleep.

We learn pretty quickly that sleep is a luxury not to be taken lightly.

I am suffering from two things - one - prostate problems, two my ankles are swelling up. That is what keeps me awake. My doctor can only do so much as I DONT want surgery. SO - I will try this. Thank you and hope it works.

I will try ro do this tonight. I normally recount everything i did leading up to laying down, step by step. Brushing teeth, taking shower. And go through it in detail in my mind.helps me out when my mind is pacing in bed.
This is progressive muscle relaxation.
Ice found that one of the best ways to deal with intrusive thoughts at bedtime is to say "I wonder what my next thought will be." It gives your mind a bit of a reset.

Suggestions to fall asleep fast: 1. After work just sit in a recliner chair😂 2. After a shower lay on a heating pad on to relax the muscles in your back.

On deployment, I got 2-4 hours of sleep per night. I could go to sleep leaning on a push broom. Lack of sleep was a game changer for me being able to go to sleep.

NOTE: I had to get off of caffeine to get rid of the nocturia so I could stay asleep longer. Sacrificed the coffee for better sleep. Sleep is so important that it was a good trade.

Can I add a modification? Instead of "Don't think!" chant "Now what's in my mind?" This triggers a disidentification with the mind. Since the non-mind You is now watching the mind, the thoughts will come slower and slower and less and less important.
I don't know about all this.. and I did 20+ years.. but I learned how to fall asleep in seconds. Sleep deprivation does wonders. Then there's digging foxholes..put you right out. Filling sand bags has always been a winner. Then of course the all night LRRP always did it for me. Now that I'm a civilian I'm having all kinds of problems.. I'm gonna give this a try without the mirtazapine and the clonozepam.
I just eat a tiny piece of celery to fall asleep and stay sleeping. If the piece of celery is too big then it makes me feel hungover. Before celery I could sleep 10 hours and not feel rested. Celery fixed that problem.
