I tried this and it works.
The trick is that when you get into that 'no think' space, stay there.
One doesn't realise how tense you are until you've tried this.

I agree, and always said to my doctor that I considered sleep more paramount than food,(close call)
But food I can deny for three days, sleep when absent messes up more quicker - it may just be me, but sleep is detrimental if absent.
When my brain gets engaged with a problem ( not a worry, I mean a puzzle and the like, my brain don't know when to turn off)
Sleep perchance to dream , Hamlet.
Just relishing a good night's sleep.

⚔️As a former Canadian soldier, I’ve never had a problem getting to sleep. On our seasonal concentration camp maneuvers, we would keep going for days, getting a crash dive nap in, as soon as we stopped. At times when we stopped to eat at mobile food kitchens; we sat against a tree or laid our heads on our packs, only to fall asleep immediately. We were wakened by the noises of others stirring about or giving orders, to saddle-up. First time it was unbelievable how we could keep going, even though, we thought we’d exhausted all of our energy. We were in top physical, and psychological condition. I watched a man, who had a large mosquito sucking blood from his head, as he slipped away; I had not enough energy to tell him, as I was also slipping away. As sunset to night the mosquitos were swarming around us, and in our food, as we had no choice but to eat it all. They were like a fog, that took our bloods. I lasted 6 yrs. Then I left. While worth the experience. Good night.🛡️

With respect, sometimes it seems to me that everyone has a "method". Usually one with five points or more.
Learning to relax everything completely and one part at a time is good to know. As is breathing deeply with the full depth of your lungs. Too much thinking may be more an anxiety thing and there are ways to counter that (I leave that to the experts).
To me, its simply learn and practice. But be aware, being ill for example brings on other problems with sleep.

Is the book an old book, as we were taught this technique in primary school, I am now 64. Difficult to imagine the book would cost that amount, maybe a mistake or a cover for the sale of something else

I think the proper military method is more like being physically worn out after the days work. 😉

Military method? Work yourself to exhaustion then make sure a jet engine is running next to you and lay down in the back of the expediter’s truck.

I do well listening to adult bedtime stories with a black screen soundscape playing softly in the background. However, many of the stories have irritating sounds during the story that wake me or the soundscape has a a bird crying out, suddenly or some such thing. Why is CZcams requiring bedtime stories to end with long playing music, that may not be suitable for remaining asleep?🙃
