  • Husqvarna Lawn Mower Tractor Brake Clutch Rattle Vibration Noise Forensic Analysis and Fix
    Why Does it Rattle and where is it coming from, I go into a lot of detail on this and do many fixes, some that work and some that don't, but in the end I do get it fixed to my liking
    Sorry the video is so long but I did cut a lot out of it to try and stay on point as best I could
    As you can see I really went out of my way to get way deep into this to try and figure it out

    After about 6 years and 600 hours on my 2013 Craftsman YT 3000 made by Husqvarna I started noticing the same vibration in the clutch/brake petal with a slight noise that both went away with pushing the petal in slightly. I put up with it for awhile until the noise got increasing louder then I decided to diagnose the problem and found that the plastic idler pulley closest to the front which makes contact on the outside of the belt area was worn down flat in one area so I replaced it and the 2 other "V" pulleys for piece of mind to hopefully get another 6 years/600 hours trouble free life as it fixed the problem completely. I have now gone almost another 200 hours and 2 years since then with no problem.

      Good job, glad you didn't have to go through everything I did, I had replaced those pulleys first on this one as seen, it didn't change the symptoms on this one, then I went down a long rabbit hole as seen in video lol

      Carmine, your comment fixed my issue. In my case it was the flat pulley making all that nose(I jave a YT4000) Thank you for sharing your experience.

      @@jaivasquez Jai, yes that was the flat pulley I had meant to say that wore an even flatter area on mine, everything is mostly the same on both of our models except yours should have the twin cycle engine on yours opposed to my single. I'm glad that it solved your issues 🙂.

    My Y18542 does it too..i think your spring fix was the real solution.. these rods are so loose because they did not provide any bushings in the system, I think thats where most of the rattle and play comes from. Your pulley solution will probably make your belt last forever, effectively. Most of us do not have machine shops or equipment to do what you did..soooo, i'm thinking trying to find plastic bushing to fit the rod end up front and maybe a rubber bump stop for the brake pedal arm to keep rear movement down to a minimum.

    Pretty sure it's due to the rods that just slip into a hole if you could put little ball joints in or they would quiet down
    Mine was so rattly from day one I put small springs all under it and zip tied plastic tubing on the rods from new
    My neighbor said man your mowers quiet compared to mine (same model) 😂

    Easy fix. I used a rubber door stop (wedge) and duct taped it to the straight part of the brake pedal (just below the curve) It hits the metal above, just enough to stop the vibration from being transmitted.

    My Husqvarna YTH22V46 Riders Deck was shaking really bad, making a loud noise, also brakes stuck and the blades turned when not engaged after buying and installing a new deck Belt.
    It was the number belt recommended for my Rider according to the guy at Lowes using his computer.
    I took the new belt off and put the old Belt ( which was still a good belt ) Back on and it fixed all the above listed problems, I measured the belts and the recommended new belt was 2 1/2 inches shorter than the old belt which put a strain on the mowers spindles and other moving parts causing all the above problems.
    I Also purchased new blades at Lowes which were numbered and stamped as the recommended 46 inch blades, which are suppose to be a little over 22 inches long for my Riding mower.
    I noticed after installing the new blades I was getting a strip of uncut grass in the center of my cut.
    NOPE!
    They were 42 inch blades ( Which are just a little over 20 inches long )
    I know I should have noticed at the time I bought them ... but I didn't ... so thats on me.
    I guess i'll start shopping at Dealers for my parts rather than going to Lowes or any other Box Stores for my mower parts from now on.

    V belts can handle about a 2 degree misalignment between the V pulleys. To fix my rattles, I replaced the pulleys, put hose over the rods that touched the frame and deleted the rod from the belt tensioner to the brake pedal. Yes, the hydro is now always live, but that's how most manufacturers run them. Husky just overcomplicated it.

    I'm watching the video right now and I would love to hear Huskys explanation concerning the stress/ heat/ disintegration this variance in alignment causes to the longevity of these machines .I for one am livid at this revelation.You have these Rat bastards by the short hairs on this.Im no engineer but I'm only too aware of the effects this mis alignment would place on just about everything from crankshaft to rear end. Seriously, you have confirmed to me that so many of these quirks shared by the mfgrs can't be just boo boo's. They are selling pulleys and belts and burning through warranty repairs with this bovine excrement. An average Joe would be looking at a new machine in about 3 seasons.Who has the time and trailer to be able to aggressively force the dealer to support the integrity of their product? Went through hell with John Deere on a JS 45 walk behind that was 8 months parked at the dealer with parts on back order. 800 Bucks with. the electric start option. Sicked the local tv news consumer guy on them. Caught em in lie after lie. I'm looking forward to taking a fresh stab at my husky built craftsman.Im truly grateful to have at last found your channel. I'm suspecting a PTO issue now that I've had the privilege of the excellent tour you have so graciously provided. BLESSINGS TO YOU AND YOURS AND HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

    That rattle was driving you banana's, lol. I have a Husqvarna lgt 2554. I bought it 10 year's ago. No problem's whatsoever, I tune it up every year, until a few day's ago, I noticed a rattling noise, it may be the same that your having. I think it makes it when my blade is engaged, but I will have to look at it closer, after our several day rain ends. The noise sounds similar. It just recently started making it. I thought maybe a pulley had a bearing wearing out, or a worn out of pulley. But, I'm no mechanic. Dang, where did you get a new complete frame, from Husqvarna? You were after that noise big time! Good job hunting down that pesky noise. Thanks, John

    IIm about to take on this problem on a craftsman yt3000. More than an annoying chatter going on here though.easing off the clutch creates the sound of huge rocks being smashed into gravel. It was gifted to me with some issues like the deck showing evidence of taking a fair number of violent collisions that tore the welds on the hanger brackets off and dangling in space. The blade actuator linkage twisted and wedged under a section of the deck that was torn off and repaired with some sheet aluminum and a few self tapping siding screws .( redone using a patch cut from a donor deck)and re aligned the pulley mounts with heat and leverage. Ate 3 deck belts before I finally returned all the components to once again find harmonious cooperation. It's taken me a year to get where I'm at with it .and now I've got noise you dont want to hear twice in a lifetime and it doesnt move.Im aware that what im describing can be a lot things. No sense in even guessing till I can rig a safe secure lift high enough to actually view the second layer of belts and pulleys I'm told are really up in there someplace.I dont recall ever working on anything that totally fights being repaired like a russlfrakin' POS " lawn tractor.And until you're ready to spend about 8 grand , your stuck with one of these "tractor mimics".. A real tractor has no " drive belts"... And regardless of what anybody tells you ,remember this... " There is no sex in the champange room..None!Not ever!

    My TS354XD is brand new and it has the same rattle. You must have been obsessed with that noise to go through all that to eliminate the rattle... Personally I wish you would have videoed how you got the body off the frame. I want to install a hitch with braces to the rear of the tractor and there seems to be no way to get a hand between the frame and the transmission... And there was the entire body off your tractor with everything exposed.... I'm sure I can figure it out but a video would have been great to watch before I dive into it. Maybe I'll video and post it when I tackle the job. 🤔

    @timothymilam732 Před rokem

    Why not just install a rubber bump stop on the edge of the foot plate where the pedal passes next to it
    It doesn't have to be very thick, but add enough thickness to compensate for the pedal causing the rubber to eventually put a pressure indentation which is typical for steel on rubber bump stops anyways..
    Then if you have to replace any of the pulleys you'll still have the bump stop to prevent any vibration which is inherent to the mechanics of the design.
    I do agree with the leveling blocks as well as the other modifications needed to get the belt level through all pulleys, because that's excessive wear on the belt, the several idler pulleys and the pulley on the transaxle itself, not too mention the bearings of the imput shaft of the transaxle itself.
    MTD, is the actual manufacturer of all the mowers that basically sold in America by most of the major brands, and a good many different brands sold regionally around the country that maybe only known in a small portion of the country, and another brand sold in another part.
    I forget exactly what every name is that's manufacturer by MTD.
    Husqvarna, craftsman, Poland,Troy bilt, yard man, MTD brand itself, cub cadet, some of john deere, list goes on.
    The ones that you buy at the big box stores are lower end units compared to the ones sold from dealers of the brand names like cub cadet commercial line, john deere is same way, as I remember reading that several other's are the same.
    That's way the big price difference, but then the quality is better somewhat too.
    But if you really look at the mowers you can see that they are all basically the same POS, and then go look at the places that strictly sale yard equipment for the professional commercial companies specializing in lawn maintenance.
    Totally different machines made to a much higher standard than the homeowner models.
    No different than appliances are made for the box store average everyday customers that don't have the type of money to afford the hi end varieties that are out there if you have the money to afford such niceties.
    Also on the long stretch that the belt travels, it really needs either another idler pulley, or maybe some type of Teflon bunks for it on either side along the way to remove the belt slack jumping back and forth slightly.
    As well as the belt guards should be a slippery Teflon pads to let the belts ride on instead of bare tin metal that the friction is going to wear the belts so-called Kevlar jacjet off due to friction heating up, and causing the seam where it overlaps itself and is probably glued together.
    Because I noticed that once you get one little fray in that jacket it's not but very short time, and the belt comes apart.
    I've found that if you can actually get a factory oem belt from aftermarket company they outlast anything that you can buy to replace locally.
    And the factory belts are just too expensive to afford them.
    But then they been screwing us for years on the spindles on the mower decks by putting grease fitting on them, but the bearings are sealed so total waste of time and grease.

    do you have the spring width, length and the spring wire gauge size for the repair. i have a spring from a local store and installed it. but i think the spring pull is a little weak. the clutch pedal still pulses a little. I'm attempting to get the pedal to stop pulsing. it did stop the knocking. guess I'm somewhat a perfectionist.

      Sorry no I don't, I actually don't have this mower anymore or I would measure it, I actually cut down a longer spring to make mine, seems like I couldn't find a heavy enough one at thew hardware store that was small so i just got a bigger one and cut it and then separated a few loops at the end and bent them outward to make the loop.

    Hey, could you please give me some advice on how to proceed with mine, I have the new version of your exact mower, just bought it 3 weeks ago brand new from a husqvarna dealer, it's a 2022 ts 354xd with 3 hrs on it and from day 1 my pedal is doing the same thing, the rattle and the noise and its driving me nuts, this unit was 4,500 dollars and should not be making noises like this, I called the dealer and they won't look at it saying it's normal and that's how there made, huge design flaw but after watching your video I'm now concerned about my pulleys wondering if new models are all even now or if mine is a half inch off even if so that's going to drive me nuts aswell but that's secondary, first this pedal noise has to be addressed so wondering being as mine is new with just 3 hrs so we know the belt pulleys etc are all good so the spring option would be my best option right and then I'll check my pulleys alignment, thanks for any advice

    • @Craigsdocks
      @Craigsdocks  Před 2 lety

      I would do the spring method, if it doesn't work its easy to remove and its not really invasive, the other stuff as you can see is a major amount of work and it didn't stop it completely, the spring seems to work as seen.
      I have no idea if yours looks the same as mine in there but I guess you could rig up a spring on that arm and just temporarily hold it to see if that works, then permanent mount it if you see that its working for you.

    just bought a ts348xd. right out of the box, theres are BAD rattle from the transaxle area. I found out the white cooling fan for the k66 isn't fully secured on the pulley. It floats back and fort so at speed it rattles like mad, gets worse with lower RPM. Is yours like that also? Or is there something wrong with this unit. If i grab the fan itll move back and forth, up and down, and make a rattling noise. I tried to tighten the lock nut but thats as tight as it gets. any ideas?

    • @Craigsdocks
      @Craigsdocks  Před 3 lety

      Cant say that mine was loose at all I was actually using the fan as leverage to spin that entire pulley to replace the belt, guess you could take the nut off and use a washer to take up the slop, however I cant see your issue and odd this would be happening on a new mower .. I dont know the design, unless their was a circlip under fan and it got dislodged and now wont tighten against that clip, again I dont know whats going on i'm just giving some ideas to look for
