Replace the drive belt on a Husqvarna YTH22V46 Yard Tractor. The process is the same for all hydrostatic Husqvarna Yard Tractors. This video will show you how to replace the drive belt on a Husqvarna Yard Tractor. No tools are needed, other than a pair of ramps or a jack to lift the tractor.
You'll need to watch one of my other videos, How to Remove the Deck on a Husqvarna Tractor, as the deck needs to be removed before replacing the drive belt:

Wish everybody was as clear as you on this stuff. No loud music, no fast motion, and no foul language. Thanks
Thank you so much! I appreciate you watching!
SERIOUSLY One of the VERY best videos I've ever seen on CZcams, and I've seen a lot! Your explanation was great and your camera work was outstanding. Now, I have the confidence that I can do this job myself. Another thing, you didn't drown out your explanation with music as so many do. Thank You for an outstanding job.
Thank you sir!! I appreciate you watching!
I couldn't agree more! Great natural speaking, and excellant mechanical walk through! I learned SO much here. Now it's time for me to go to work. Thanks!
I came here to say the same thing! Best video I've ever seen on CZcams n
Video was perfect …. Was able to change belt myself saving $$$ ….
Will be my go to guy going forward if any other tractor issues surface …..
Yes indeed.....a great well explained video! I'm subscribed! Thank you Dennis!
One thing I would add, is that instead of trying to put the belt on the back end from underneath , just remove your battery and then remove the battery holder and you can put the belt on so much easier. The battery holder just clips in.
Yes, great idea! Thanks for watching!

Thank you very much for watching! And thanks for the kind comment!
This man took his time too explain the best he could. I like this video. Thumbs up, and thank you.
Thank you Shannon!! I appreciate you watching!
you right great job
This guy is awesome. Just did my belt replacement in one hour, video was precise and clear. Saved $500!!!
Fantastic! Thanks for watching, Wayne!
Really 500 dollars for a belt change?

Great video, Dennis. On my YTH 21K46, I can remove the battery (located beneath the seat), slide the plastic battery box up and out of the rear fenders, and have unobstructed access to the top of the transaxle. This makes it much easier to remove/reinstall the drive belt in that rear area. Hope this helps!
Great idea! Thanks for watching, Bill!
Dennis Coffey, I've watched many videos over the years and most of them suck, but yours was very well done!!! I never hesitate to criticize poor video makers because they waste people's time. Your video was terrific and very helpful in teaching me how to put a drive belt on my tractor. Your links for ramp and belt were perfect. I double checked and triple checked the belt to make sure it would fit my tractor and your link is perfect. Ordering a ramp, its a good idea instead of my lame hand jack. Getting a belt too! Thanks for taking time to make a good video, I really appreciate it!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I appreciate it and thanks for watching!
i hav the husqvarna 42 inch tractor model#pxt16542,,,product#960160017 00 i would like to know how to adjust the belt
@@dwcoffey your video has been a very good tutorial on how to replace the drive belt on my rider. Excellent demonstration!
My YTH2148 had deck problems and shearing belts. After removing those, the drive belt was visible and needed replacing too. Your coverage of the process will make this MUCH less stressful. New Aramid belts all -around and off we cut. Thank you - terrific production.
Thank you so much for watching, and for the nice comment! Aramid belts should last considerably longer....good idea!
I have a YTH20K42.
I watched your lawn tractor lube video and from there have been on a watching marathon of your Husqvarna mower maintenance videos.
Your videos ought to be the gold standard of youtube how to videos... no nonsense, well explained, simply and thoroughly explained, clear video/pictures to go along with your explanations, doesn't assume too much pre-existing knowledge from the viewer, friendly, no cursing. Thanks for taking the time to make these. No on to the how to remove the mower deck.
Thank you so much, Robert! I really appreciate your comment and thank you so much for your support, subscribing and commenting!
Great precise clear instructions. Great jub
I came to CZcams college for this very fix . I forgot to take the picture and now here I am. I just took an impact gun and socket to the drive / deck pully and took it all the way down.
Thankyou for your video . Helped out tons.
I'm glad this helped! Thanks for watching, David!
This man is the best, showing how to change the belt step by step.
Thank you Victor! I appreciate you watching!
This is the best instructional video I have ever found on CZcams. I have been dreading this belt change but I'm going to tackle it today. Your instructions and camera angles are very clear. Thank you so much!
Thanks for watching, Cynthia! I really appreciate the kind comment!
Thank you very much for this video. Your patience and attention to detail is commendable. Not many videos take the time to explain with the level of effort you put in
Thank you so much, Danny! I really appreciate that and thank you for watching!
I watched a couple of other videos on this task and yours is the first to give tips to guide on how to complete it. You also show the work being done.

This video was amazing and so helpful! I had to replace this belt on my Husqvarna LGT2654 and I followed this video step by step. It was actually easier than what I thought it would be.
That's great! Thanks for watching, David!
I JUST REPLACED THE NEW BELT ON MY T2400 AND I HAVE THE BELT RUNNING EXACTLY LIKE THE DIAGRAM SHOW NOW THE BELT AT THE POINT WHERE THE STEERING SHAFT IS IT IS LOSE ENOUGH THAT IT ALMOST RIDE,S TO CLOSE IT IS IN NEUTRAL BUT THE WHEN YOU MOVE THE SHIFTER LEVER NO SPING,S MOVE NO TENSION ON ANYTHING SO DO THE TRACTOR HAVE TO BE RUNNING FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO TIGHTEN THE BELT UP OR IS THE BELT TO LONG
Dennis you do a great job!! Thank you very much! You just saved me a bunch of money having my tractor hauled to the shop and paying someone else to do the work.
That's great, and I 'm glad this helped. Thanks for watching, Dave!
Thanks a bunch for the video my wife is gonna be so happy when she gets home and sees that I fixed lawn mower. I might get a hot dinner tonight thank you so much
Thanks for watching, Brandon! Heck yea!!!....I hope you got a hot meal after getting that mower going! :)
Very nice. Thank you very much for taking the time to make this! I have done this a couple times on other mowers and it's never been easy. But I'm about to head outside and get underneath my 6 year old Husky, and I think I will just cut the old belt and make the removal that much easier.
Thank you Andy, I appreciate you watching! Yes sir....if I didn't need to show the belt removal on the video, I would have definitely cut mine off! :)
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! My lawn is half cut and my tractor decided it didn't want to drive forward or backward anymore, so trying this on my 54 tomorrow. You just saved me lots of money thank you!
I hope you got it going again! Thanks for watching!
This is awesome! My uncle and I are in the middle of changing the drive belt. we got the old one off and now going back to put the new one on and now I know where to put the belt and your hints are wonderful thank you!
I'm glad this helped! Thanks for watching, Kathy!
Just got done putting on the drive belt. YOU ARE THE MAN. Great details and video. I thought for sure it was the transmission, the belt did the trick. Running Great. I appreciate it very much sir.
That's great, Jamie! I'm glad this helped and glad it took care of your mower! Thanks for watching.
Dennis, I have watched many "how to"videos that either were poorly explained, and poorly filmed. This video was one of the best, you did a great job with both the explanation and video. After watching I changer the belt in less than 30 minutes. I own a husky 48" and do my own maintenance so I will be looking for you videos in the future. Thank for quality info and video.
Thank you so much, Randall! I appreciate you watching and thank you for your kind words. I'm glad this video helped. And please do check into my other videos, I have a lot on the Husqvarna yard tractors. Thanks again!
I want to thank you for being so easy and not difficult. I replaced my drive belt and my blade belt. Your video was clear and precise. You saved me a lot of money.
I'm very glad this helped, Kellie! Thanks for watching!
One of the best instructional videos I have ever watched. I have a Ariens tractor mower that I wasn't sure how to install a broken belt on until I ran across this. I am surprised how similar it is to the Husqvarna. You really know how to make a useful video.Thank you very much.
Thanks for watching! Yes, the Ariens, Husqvarna, Craftsman and Poulan mowers are almost identical regarding parts and construction.
Very clear and easy to understand with good camera shots. Thanks a million.
Thanks for watching, Kerr!
Thank you your explanation was spot on and i changed the belt in 15 minutes, I did it the way you did with the ramps . It was a remote job and I hate not having everything I need when far from the shop. Thanks again.
I'm glad this helped! Thanks for watching!
Dennis, you make a fantastic video! I'm not naturally handy, so it can be frustrating. The way you explained everything including which direction we are actually looking at is tremendously helpful! Thanks Brother!
Thank you Sean! I appreciate you watching!
Dennis Coffey, This week I watched many of your videos before tackling the 5 year maintenance on my 2015 Husqvarna YTA22V46. You made my life so much easier and saved me lots of money in the process. Although my mower is similar to the YTH22V46, it does have some differences, when following your video for the drive belt replacement I found that removing the battery and battery box gave me clear access to drive belt in the back and it was easy peasy to route the belt in place. Let me know if you want the parts list as posted under the hood of the mower.
Thank you for watching, Pete! Also, thanks for sharing that info about the YTA22V46! A couple of other folks have mentioned the same on the YTH22V46....that getting the old belt off and the new belt on was easier for them by removing the battery and battery box for easier access to the top of the transaxle. Thanks!!
Thanks for your great instructional video Dennis! I have never seen anyone else ever replace the drive belt (including service techs) without removing the engine shaft pulley first, I will probably be replacing my Craftsman YT-3000's drive belt again in the spring (for a couple hundred hours piece of mind) before I reinstall the deck after removing my winter snow equipment and will try and do it your easier way.
I hope this helps! Thanks for watching, Carmine!
Thank you! I had no clue how to change out the drive belt. Excellent video!
Thanks for a true HOW TO video. YTA22V46 found the drain valve was loose "hand tight" same problem with my YTH22V46
This is exactly what I needed. I couldnt figure out how the belt was wrapped around earlier...Thanks...Need to work on my tractor tomorrow..
Glad this helped! Thanks for watching, Ramy!
This was such a great tutorial! Surely you must be a professional instructor, this video could not be any better. Thank you so much!
Thanks for watching and for the really kind comment, Karen!
Hello from France ! Thank you so much, sir ! I've changed both belts on my tractor while enjoying your southern accent in the process !
Fantastic! Thank you for the support and thanks for watching!
Thanks for having a clean tractor for your video. Some videos have so much mud and grass on the tractor that you can't see what to do. Yours is spotless so I really understood what you were showing me.
Thank you Cynthia! I appreciate you watching!
Thank you Dennis. This is a GREAT video. It is among the very best I have ever seen. My daughter and I needed to change the drive belt on her tractor, and we would have been thoroughly frustrated doing the job without this video. There was only one thing that was not exactly as Dennis described. My daughter's tractor is model YTH 24V48, and has an electrically activated clutch that starts the mower deck with a push of a button rather than a manual actuator. We found that one brace and one electrical cable need to be removed and reinstalled to replace the belt on the engine pulley.
Thank you for watching, Dick! I'm glad this helped and I'm glad y'all were able to sort out the differences between the manual PTO and the electric one. I've not worked on one with an electric PTO, so this is good info for you to share. Thank you!
@@dwcoffey I have the same model as his daughter, removed the brace and cable and still can't get it.
Great job! Easy to follow and thorough and well filmed. Thank you.
Thank you for watching, Bruce!
Excellent video by someone who can not only do the job, but film and explain it in a way that anyone can understand.
You are too kind! Thank you very much for watching!
Unbelievable tutorial! I concur with all of the comments below. I was afraid to replace the belt before his tutorial, but now have complete confidence to do the job. Excellent job!!
I'm glad this helped! Thanks for watching!
Dennis what a great video! I have the exact riding lawn mower in your video. I have had the mower for about 8 years now and over the years I have replaced the deck and drive belts. You have a great video by-the-way on replacing the deck belt. I have replaced both the deck and drive belts without removing the deck. It is a little bit of a pain the replace the drive belt with the deck still attached but it can be done if you support the front of the mower with jack stands and the rear with jack stands but place the jack stands under the crossmember which is in-front-of the transaxle. My solution for removing he belt from the transaxle fan was to remove the battery and battery tray and you have direct access to the transaxle fan and pulley and lower the deck as low as possible.
Thanks for watching, Rex! Yes, I didn't show that in the video, but pulling the battery and box gives you good access to the top of the transaxle. Thanks again!
This is the best instructional video I have seen.
Thank you for watching and thanks for the nice comment!
I replaced both belts on my *YTH2246* 2 or 3 years ago. Wish I had seen you video before I did it, would have saved me some time & work. :) My YTH2246 is 13 years old now (a 2007) and still running strong ... good mower. When I have to replace it, it will be with another Husqvarna. :) Thanks for the video, great job!
Thank you very much! I appreciate you watching!
Hi Dennis,
I subscribed to your channel right after changing the drive belt on my 15 year old Husqvarna. No wounds with your help. Thanks. 🤕
Another great job thank you for your time this will go into my archive for future reference with all your husqvarna videos
Thank you Danny! I really appreciate your continued support and also your words of encouragement! Thank you for your comment and kind words!!
Video is well-done! Great explanation of the process, and great camera shots. Thanks for sharing your expertise so well!

Trying to do a lot of my own stuff. I do have a mechanic friend who works on mine, but I worry on rely on him too much. I know I won’t like doing this, but I’m going to see. Thank you for an easy step by step video.
Thanks for watching, Sue! I hope it went well!
Excellent video. I was debating on replacing the belt myself or taking it to the shop. After watching this easy to follow video, I’m definitely doing it myself.
Good choice..saves time and money! I'm sure you did a great job. Thank you for watching, George!
Great well made video, helped me with my Craftsman Tractor. Looks like the same mower. Thanks
Thanks for watching, Vinny! Yes, from what I understand, Craftsman, Poulan and Husqvarna are all nearly the same.
Dennis, thanks for the well done video! It certainly helped me get my drive belt on and off (several times in the past few days). The order of your steps and the info on how to deal with the guard on the engine pulley were very useful. Turns out I had cracked transaxle mounting brackets that were resulting in the drive belt coming off the transaxle. AutoHelix has a very good video on how to repair that.
Thanks for watching, John! I have not had that problem, but I think it is fairly common. Glad you found the AutoHelix video.
I was coming to comment about how much I enjoyed this video and well done it was but I see a thousand other people have beat me to it. So I will echo their statements, well done sir! Thank you for not talking to just hear yourself speak, Thank you for explaining things in just normal everyday language, and most of all THANK YOU for not trying to put on a show!
I really appreciate that!! Thanks for the kind comment and thank you for watching!
Great video. I have a few additions. Ariens 46" rider. Same basic setup. I was randomly stranded in a field that i rode to. 1/4 mile away. Belt snapped. Had an extra in the shed, always have an extra belt. Thanks to this vid and 18% phone battery i accomplished this with 0 tools, not removing the deck, and not raising the unit. I see the comments about removing the battery under the seat. Couldn't do it. Kohler engine, battery is under the hood. Gas tank is under the seat.
Step 1- drop the deck.
Step 2- attach a ratchet strap to the clutch pedal to keep it pressed
Step 3- route the belt from the center to the front engine pulley, left it around the shaft, you need the play.
Step 4- route the belt straight to the rear pulley. My model i was able to access the fan from a cutout on each side of the mower above the axle. Enough to get the belt around the fan and pulley. Those blades were very pliable btw but age and wear will play a factor.
Step 5- i routed the belt around the 3 center pulleys from front to rear.
Step 6- removed the strap, laughed and finished the job.
Since the belt snapped i didn't know how to route it and because i couldn't raise and didn't remove the decki needed this vid. I had to feel my way through the job. Saw a bunch but none were useful. Awesome vid, can't thank you enough. Just know that in a pinch you can do it in the middle of nowhere. Good luck everyone!
Fantastic! Thank you for watching!
I found an easier way of getting your belt off. When you in the middle of your yard and it snaps you can just grab one end of it and ever so easy pull it out. Lol. Great video. Now I see how to put it back on. 👍
LOL! Yea, I've used that method to remove my belt before too!! Thanks for watching!
HI Dennis, absolutely brilliant video,. This has given me the confidence to change my Drive belt myself. Many thanks sir!
That's great Steve! Thank you for watching!
Hi Dennis, excellent video!, I have a Troy-Bilt bronco, I just replaced the drive belt, but know the driving pedal is very hard and when I engage forward, the belt smoke. Any thoughts highly appreciated. With regards Mike
Hi Mike, I'm sorry I just saw this comment. Thanks for watching. It sounds like the belt may be a touch too short.
I don't know if you mentioned it, but I just got done doing mine and it's important c people understand that when replacing you need to first put the belt up over the clutch in front and leave out of pulley to give it extra movement. Then snake the belt to back and from back to front begin placing belt on pulley. If you don't flip the belt over the clutch in the front to begin with, when you begin putting the belt on the pulleys from back to front, when you go to put the belt on the front if you got this big clutch, that's gonna be in your way and not enough play in the belt to be able to get it over that and if you could you probably stretch it so much then it would no longer be any good. Good luck I hope I didn't make this more confusing. Overall, I really liked your video dude. Thank you very much. Was a great help. Got me thinking.
Thanks for sharing that, Pete! and thank you for watching!
Thanks heaps for the excellent video instructions. Definitely one of the best detailed and moderated videos. Nice work, and again, thank you. Champion 🏆. Frank

Great video! Pulled my mower deck off so that I can replace the belts & blades. Then saw my ground drive belt was in horrible condition! It's 20y OLD and this old lady never had it in the shop. When shop guy told me how much he would charge me I went YIKES...and decided to do it myself.
Thank you for watching, Dianne! I hope it went well!
Mr. Coffey, thank you for making this video. At the end of last season, the drive belt popped off when I engaged the brake. I had to send it to my local CO-OP to have put back on. My first mow this season, it popped off again. I'll be replacing it myself thanks to you.
Thanks for watching, Daniel! The most common reason I've seen to cause these belts to come off is improper routing...so just double check your belt routing well.
Dennis Coffey I saw a video, can't find it now, about a mounting problem, threaded aluminum and bolts in the rear end assembly as being a possible problem for frequent the belt popping off,do you have a remark about that possible problem?
I'm sorry sir, but I have not encountered that problem. Sounds like a bad problem to have though.
Just lay the mower on it's side and you don't have to crawl under it and you can sit on a milk crate and change out the drive belt while you are having a Beer.
Sounds like a good plan to me!! :) Thanks for watching!
Really appreciate these videos. I got the exact same mower for free and in rough shape. You have helped me fix it up myself.

Great tutorial video!! I am not mechanically by nature and I was able to change the belt in under 40 minutes due to this video. i know this is old video but i found its easier to take 2 min and disconnect battery and pull out battery box top get to the belt were it goes over the fan.great job explaining everything
Good point! Thanks for watching!
Really well done and informative. I might add that removing the battery box really opened up access to the transmission pulley on my Poulan Pro pp19a42.
Thanks for watching, Dan! Yes, I really should have shown that option on my video....some folks find it much easier to get the old belt off and the new belt on thru the battery hole.
Thank you so much. Your instructions and the visuals were great and very helpful. Also your patient attitude while working in tight spots. Much appreciated.
Thank you very much! I appreciate you watching!
Thanks for the video, it was extremely useful! I was unable to find the 92.5 inch belt and bought a 92 inch belt instead from Tractor Supply and it worked perfect!

Excellent detailed video, if you don't want to do all that to remove the belt, just cut it and pull it out.
Thanks for watching, Anthony! Great point. The only reason I went to the trouble was that this belt was in reasonable shape, so I kept it for an emergency backup.

I was about to tackle this job on my Husqvarna YTH24V48 and thought I would check CZcams to see if there were any videos that might help. I didn't expect to find a video this good! Great photography and even better explanation of the process. I use my tractor for mowing and blowing snow, and I noticed a small amount of slip last winter. Since the deck is off getting ready to install the snow blower, now is the time. I already heave the Rhino Ramps!
Awesome job! Thanks for posting!

This has been a most useful video for this task your lawn tractor is an exact match to my cfaftsman yts 3000, I have the belt off and I am awaiting my amozon delivery of new belt today. I will be back on the grass in no time NOW
Fantastic! thanks for watching, Russell!
Thank you Mr. Coffey for this descriptive instructional video. I am a self described inept do it yourself man but, thanks to certain people like yourself and youtube I have been able to perform numerous repairs with success. At this point I haven't changed the drive belt on my husqvarna YTH 22V42 but I now believe I will attempt it. I will keep my ipad cued up to your video while I slowly attempt to replace a 4 year old belt that is giving me grief.
Thank you for watching and for your support, Mike! I hope this helps, and I'm sure you'll get it done!
Best video by far. Can't say enough about how easy he made it for me to change my drivebelt.
Thank you for watching!

I have a Husqvarna YTH21K46 and the routing looks the same. I spend 2 minutes taking out the battery and battery box and the fan is very easy to work around. Great video!
Thank you for watching, Larry! Yes, that is a great way to get better access to the top of the transmission!
