Usually writers try to avoid the huge, strong guys as main protagonists, or they make them one dimensional. This is refreshing to me because of how both how important and unimportant Reacher's size is to his character.

It's important to me as someone who was majorly disappointed in the films choice of Tom Cruise. I've read most of the books since childhood and in one Reacher kills two men by palming their skulls and crushing them together. I just don't see Tom doing that. He's a decent martial artist but I wouldn't be intimidated by him. Since the show aired friends of mine have pointed out that I have a similar personality to Reacher.
Probably just influenced by the books but I do believe that I have more scars than the character because of my average size. If I was as big as Alan then maybe people wouldn't underestimate me as much.

Now THIS is the way to do Jack Reacher. Next thing to a perfect adaptation. I don’t think anything is perfect, but still. I devoured this show.
This show was crazy good
I would say the only thing that keeps it from being "perfect" in terms of Reacher as a character is that in the show he says he is 6'5 but the actor is 6'2.
@Javier Burgos I am not complaining. I think he is great for the role. I am literally saying the only thing that keeps it from being perfect is that. Like OP said, nothing is perfect. It is the opposite of complaining.
@@lithium23 Not gonna lie I thought he actually was 6'5. They prob are making him wear shoes that add 2-3 inches in scenes where you cant see his feet. Im 6'7 and thought he was 6'5 so whatever they did, they did good.
Literally found myself staying up overnight to binge the season on accident when I work in a couple hours. Absolutely loved the show and happy for Alan Ritchson, he has deserved a big role like this and Reacher fits him perfectly.
I binge watched this as well. Loved this series. I love the comedy, suspense, thriller, action, mystery… the full package. 10/10 series for me.
As someone who read Killing Floor was faithful adaption and Alan nails the overall look. The movies not it lol.
The movie was okay, but after watching this TV show, I am looking forward to reading the book because so many people commented that this show really honored the book, and I like that! I look forward to Season 2.
@@hazelle7319 Personally for me, Cruise nailed the character in every way except for the one thing that he couldn't train for, which was size. He's supposed to be this unstoppable force or immovable wall, and regardless of the acting, training, stuntwork, I can understand how people just aren't convinced with 5' 7'' Mini-Reacher.
In my honest opinion though, a lot of people should be thanking Tom Cruise. He did do the character justice, brought even more attention to a bestselling series that already has a decent following, and showed Hollywood and other entities that this type of thing is something that audiences want to see. Which ultimately paved the way for a series, that in the end, checks all the boxes and does a fantastic job of adapting the source material.
And I'll go a step further and argue that the TV adaptation is better than the source material, full stop.
I love the opening. He looks around the restaurant. All boring locals. He knows the police are there for him and puts he palms on the table and waits.
Dope book series, and I am a huge fan of Tom Cruise, but this is how it should've been done from the start.
My wife and I have read all 26 novels (also all the short stories and novellas). We binged it in ONE go.
They ripped the character right out of the book series. Very faithful adaptation of the first book, Killing Floor.
Love Alan Ritchson is NOW the definituve visualization of Jack Reacher.
Another notable is Willa Fitzgerald as Roscoe. So well cast and inhabited. There are others in the series, but I'll talk about them, later.
Love the music that is used in this series. Obviously all the Blues, but even most of the songs that are seen by Reacher as being bad. Up to taste, that's for sure.

If you watch Alan's interviews about Reacher, he read ALL the books that were available and became a huge fan himself.
@@w1975b - Yes, and that made him MORE beloved for him doing that. He didn't have to do that, but BECAUSE he did that...we believe he understands the character even more...which actually shows in his performance. I think this is some of the best work that he's ever done...and we hope that he does MANY more seasons of the GREAT show.
Also, he seems like a genuinely nice guy. Who doesn't like a nice guy?
I read some Jack Reacher books and this guy Alan Ritchson is just like the character,physically described .

My housemate is a massive Reacher fan, I only knew bits and pieces via osmosis, both of us think this is an awesome show :) He's also a big guy (not Reacher big, but over 6 foot still), and the scene where Reacher is walking down the street in his new clothes and the mother pulled her child away from him, I couldn't help but ask if he'd experienced similar. The response was "You learn to ignore it"... It's really nice to see a big guy NOT portrayed as a dumb giant or a monster. Stoked you're enjoying (and reviewing)

Last time one of my favorite books was made into a movie was Lord of the rings 20 years ago. I've read all the Lee child books several times.

I saw a picture of Tom Cruise and whatever woman he was dating and he was soooooo much shorter than her it was hilarious. It was like a mum and her son walking about. And this was the guy they cast as Jack Reacher before. LOL

Matter of fact, I just finished watching the whole season yesterday, I gotta say I know people get irritated about hearing about remakes, and again idc there are exception , I gotta say if done right by the right talent, Alan Ritchson would make a great updated version of Arnold Schwarzenegger 's Jack Slater from Last Action Hero!!!!

I love how in the beginning at the diner when the guy is really mad at his wife and he notices Jack and Jack doesn't say anything to him he just stares at him like you really don't want to mess with me you're going to regret it lol
7:58 is when I KNEW - everything leading up was correct, his analyzations his detective prowess - but the monster himself going full brutality like that is when I knew, I'm in safe hands with this show - they do REACHER justice. Then the shower scene - haven't felt adrenaline from a show like that, maybe ever?
The choreography in that shower scene, lotta of the hits didn’t really connect. Other than that it was great

I love this a lot so far and for me having seen Alan on SmallVille and how his character Hawk is on Titans it’s great to see him playing more roles and he fits this one well and glad that him being a big guy character wise isn’t a big deal he just happens to be

This show was incredible. The main actor is an absolute giga Chad, this is how I imagine Jack Reacher to be, I'm glad they didn't cast a 5'8 pretty boy for this role.

I've heard about the Reacher books for years but never read them. Then TC movies which I've never seen because I am not a fan of TC. Now that I've seen this,I'm reading the books. Now I have a true visualization of what Reacher looks like and his attitude. Can't wait for season two.

This is why fans of Jack Reacher books didn't like Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher, Tom Cruise is about 5 feet 7 inches tall, while Jack Reacher from the books is 6ft 4-5 inches and weight over 230 pounds. Cruise although a great actor is lucky if he weighs 150.

Jack Reacher fan here, I read all the books and I don't like the fact that they changed a few scenes slightly.
I liked the show but you can tell a European who's never been to the south wrote it
Reacher's voice needs to be dubbed or the actor needs to use his lower register. This "Reacher's" voice is too high and too girly. We learned how, or were supposed to have, to use our lower registers in Boot camp
I liked Tom Cruise Rewcher movies.. he had the right attitude.. But I guess this is better.. I love this series.
