In the books, Reacher explains that as a policeman, heâs taught skills and techniques to take down criminals. But unlike regular cops, heâs a military police,an so heâs taking down criminals that are highly trained in combat. So they train him better.
Thatâs why he can fight so well.
while that is what is explained in the books its highly inaccurate to how actual military are trained. even special ops like navy seals have at most 60 hours of close querters combat training. none of them are trained like jack reacher

This show, and the Tom Cruise movies, are based on a series of books. The Tom Cruise movies were good but Cruise definitely did not fit the physical description of the character. In the book, Reacher is 6â5 and built. The character is supposed to be intimidating at first glance. Fans of the books were happy to see this series sticking closer to the book. The first season follows the events of the first book.
Yeah. Alan Ritchson is a perfect casting choice for Reacher.

John Wick and Reacher would get along famously
in the books the medal belonged to his mother because the book's time stamp was 1997 and reacher was 37 and his mother was alive during world war 2 but in the show it's his grandfather's because the show is in 2022 and his mother couldn't have been born during the 2nd world war.
This show is just a great time, and worth more attention from reactors on CZcams. Enjoy the trip.

I never said that the video program is a faithful, word-for-word, scene-for-scene adaptation. (And yes, I've read "Killing Floor", along with almost all the others. But it's been a while for this book, so please forgive any inaccuracies on my part.)
The non-canon compliant parts:
First, the book was set in the early 90s. Cell phones were not widely available yet, and the iPhone wasn't even a glimmer in Steve Jobs's eye. Jobs was still trying to get NeXT Computers off the ground after leaving Apple.
Second, Frances Neagley was folded into the timeline early. She wasn't introduced in the books until 4 or 5 issues later.
Third, Reacher didn't stay at a rundown mom & pop BnB-style hotel next to the train tracks. Other than LE lodgings with bars on them and a few roadside motels, none were ever really shown on video.
Fourth, we never saw Reacher's thoughts or internal dialogue like we get in the books: how a fight will progress; nor his innate ability to know the current time and wake up on time without an alarm clock; nor the internal cadre of jazz/blues musicians that entertain him in his head when idling time. That enough?
Things that at least attempted to be canon-compliant:
Exhibit A: Reacher's appearance. Though Ritchison is only 6'2"-ish, he has enough size and the bulk to pull it off. Camera angles made up for any lacking height.
Exhibit B: Jack Reacher is a quirky and unique character who probably places somewhere on the autism spectrum. Think high-functioning individual with Asperger's-- everything is initially seen through a binary lens. Ritchison played it pretty well, and the fighting scenes were consistent with military training-- economy of movement that yielded max damage without the wild, flashy moves.
Exhibit C: Most of the main plot points were there, either done faithfully or with some artistic liberties taken. That's usually the best case when adapting books to screenplays. I've seen other movies based on books where I thought it must've been based on a whole different author, series or characters.
My final thoughts: Yes, I affirm your assertion that the video series differed from the book upon which it was based. Film and written word are completely different mediums with their own limitations. Adapting stories between mediums can go horribly astray. That said, this episodic video series allowed for a better adaptation because the story didn't have to be edited (read as "crushed") into a 2 hour film. It was a reasonably faithful adaptation of the book that had enough screen time to allow for more rich story.
Would I recommend it, and will I watch Season 2 when it drops? yes. Would I caution avid fans of the books before watching? Yes, but only enough to say that minor liberties were taken. Other than that, it was enjoyable, entertaining ride.

"Make sure John Wick is outside the range of a pencil... Or make sure Jack reacher doesn't kill his dog"... Is the most crazy and funny af line I've ever heard.
He knows what he's doing through experience. First off, beat up the "leader" of the pack in the most brutal way possible and the rest will just scamper away. Also why would he play fairly in prison? They'd sooner jump him in his sleep than play fair. So he always strikes before 3 to gain as much as possible through the element of surprise and do less work at the same time. A count of 2 was enough for the first guy who was there to show off, but not the others in the bath scene who were there for the worst reasons. He maximized the results from taking them by surprise. And that's only supported by his stature and physical abilitites, which he knows well. Experience from all the fights as a youngin, including his army time. Very well thought out and the choreo was amazing and practical. No showy punchy stuff. Serious damage.
Reacher wrecks Wick in hand-to-hand. Too big and he's just as smart and skilled as Wick.
Never mess with man who can't count to 3
Something to know about Reacher is in one of the books he explains that someone tested him and found that he was basicaly a genetic throwback to primative man! Strength, reactions and no hesitation for violence.

I have read 16 of Lee Childâs books on Reacher and this actor fits the profile perfectly. When I heard Tom Cruise was playing the part was a joke. In the book Jack Reacher was 6â5â 235 lbs. and Tom Cruise is 5â7â doesnât work. Iâm glad they came up with serious.
Actually in the first couple of books Reacher was 6'5" and 210 pounds ,he later worked his way to 250 pounds, apparently You have never read 1 of the books because every book gives a detailed description of Reacher and Alan Ritchson doesn't fit any of the description.
So you are saying 5â 9â Tom Cruise fits Jack Reacher, at least Alan at 6â 2â comes a lot closer and believable.

I love this show. I've watched it 4 times and it's only been out just over 5 weeks.
The counting thing Reacher does is a character staple. Fighting fair is for suckers. So he'll *SAY* he's going to count to three, but he's going on one or two because the people he's about to beat think he'll be silly enough to get to three.
Lee Child wanted to create a character who could kick ass in almost any given situation. Alan Ritchson is big enough to cheat and claim he's Reacher's 6'5", even though Ritchson is 6'2". Reacher is also incredibly smart, which isn't just in his demeanor, but the fact that he's a West Point graduate and was in charge of the 110th Special Investigations Unit in the Army. It's easy to think he's simply big and dumb until he opens his mouth. His only major flaw is that he's made of flesh and blood, which means he's subject to serious injury. But that's about it, as you'll see as the show progresses.

REACHER is where it's at. I loved this show, the movies were OK, but the show is more book accurate.
Dragons, this show is based on the first Reacher book titled The killing field
Wick or Reacher? Seriously depends doesn't it? Close combat, neither. At a distance, neither.
Jason Bourne takes them out.
Wick is far more lethal where as Reacher doesn't kill his enemies unless he has to (though sine would argue he leaves his opponents in a state worse than death)
This character of Reacher is how Tom Cruise should have played the role; this truly matches the books and it did not hurt to have the author Lee Childs on scene for the filming, Alan Richardson played an awesome role.

this actor is 6.16 but the character in the books is 6.5 so they used actors and filmed the series, so he looks bigger then 6.16..

Hand to hand? Iâm losing either way but Iâd rather fight John wick than reacher, hopefully they donât beat me to death or into being brain damaged. Reacher in the series is dead on from the book . Cruise made a action movie that was called Reacher but was nothing like the books. Last always remember Reacher Cheats.

Cruise may have played reacher but he never was reacher like Alan is. I grew up reading the books and the only thing about the series that bugged me was that it wasn't violent enough. The reacher from the books would have killed all those men in the prison and then had the prison investigated for corruption.
I mean both statements can be true. It's based on a series of books. It also rebooted the franchise started by Tom cruise from a film/television standpoint. Thanks for the feedback
