    The V-Moda Crossfade M-100's are one of my favorite sets of headphones to date. They do so many things incredibly well. First, the build quality - just amazing. If you treat these things with any amount of care they may outlive you! Comfort - again, just fantastic. Unlike other headphones with leather pads, these actually don't turn your ears into furnaces and the comfort is one of the best I've felt. Sound quality of the M-100's is excellent. A serious set of drivers for incredible bass, a lush, full mid-range, and a relaxed treble that is not too fatiguing, these are a wonderful set of headphones to listen to. They are a bit on the darker side of sounding, but after a bit of time listening, I rather enjoyed that type of sound as it's a bit easier on the ears, especially at louder volumes.
    NOTE - These headphones DID require quite a bit of burn in to get to their best sound. I'd say I probably did somewhere in the ballpark of 80 hours of burn in when these finally started to warm up. Use a full range music like Jazz on low-moderate levels to burn in your headphones to get the best sound without damaging the drivers.
    Build Quality - Best I've seen to date
    Genres - the V-Modas are extremely versatile - they'll sound great with any genre you throw at them.
    Soundstage - the soundstage is nice - you can definitely tell spacing when listening to music such as quartets and the like. Very good for a closed set of headphones.
    Separation - the M-100's were excellent with resolving each instrument and musician perfectly - you can literally pick each note and instrument out of the crowd - wonderful resolution.
    Seriously, one of the best all around sets I've tried. I've heard better sounding headphones, such as the Beyerdynamic T-90's and the T1's, however, when you take into consideration price, build quality, comfort and all the other things that make up this set, they're near the top of my must buy sets of headphones. Very exciting stuff.

    Nice review. I would love those, bit pricey for me though, especially in NZ dollars ($400 bucks). Your stellar review of the LP's pushed me to make that purchase, waiting on delivery. Val Kolton would be stoked with how these are reviewing. Your son looks the part with them on too! Well done.

    @maxxgone Před 9 lety

    First of all thanks for this review, it's simply superb. Keep up the good work man! I really enjoyed it.
    I'm an amateur audiophile, recently (about 3 months ago) I began to concern about the quality of audio in my music collection (most of my songs are crappy 128kbps mp3) and I started downloading FLAC files (if not available, 320kbps mp3). I have read a lot about hi-res audio and all that stuff.
    I have some old and cheap Sony MDR-V150 which I still consider OK for the price but I wanted something better.
    Anyway, as I began to realize of the quality of audio and all that stuff I began looking for some headphones that could fit my budget and needs and that's when I was aware of the existence of the V-Moda M-100. I also looked for other brands and I came across with the brand Astro offering the Astro A38 bluetooth headset aimed for mobile gaming and music. Long story short becuase of budget reasons (mainly) and the Bluetooth feature I leaned towards Astro A38 and bought them.
    I have been using these headphones for 1 week and I'm very pleased with the quality of sound they provide and also the Bluetooth feature is pretty cool.
    I don't know if you have come across the a38's and tested them. The thing is that eventhough I'm very satisfied with these cans I still wonder if the M-100's provide better sound quality to play FLAC files and also Hi-Res audio tracks (24-bit-192kHz).
    If you have tested the A38's, do you recommend to also get the M-100? Or should I stick with the a38's as there is no much difference with the audio quality provided from them in comparison with the M-100? I'm very interested in the M-100 as I'm a harcore bass head, the thing is that I have never tested them as I live in Mexico and they don't sell these kind of headphones in my country.
    Thanks for your time and sorry for the long post!

    Hey Alan, Thanks for the review... I have ordered the V-Moda Cross fade wireless... I had bought the Audio Technica after watching your review and it was exactly as you had described it... I am only replacing it as the head band got a bit frizzy (maybe due to too much oil on my hair) the sound quality is exactly the way you described it... I am investing in a new pair of headphones and after shifting through tons of reviews... yours was the ultimate one that made me decide to go for the new cans... Thanks for your simple, honest, accurate and 360% review... Thanks a ton... Peace bro :)

    Really thorough review. Also, thanks for the note on comfort in people with glasses too. I NEVER hear anyone mention that in headphone reviews, but it's often a big issue for folks wearing glasses, like myself lol, that can ruin an otherwise great listening experience if it's so annoying you can barely wear them for 10 minutes.

    • @HeadphoneReviewHQ
      @HeadphoneReviewHQ  Před 10 lety

      I'm definitely going to start working that in - as a person that doesn't wear glasses, it's not something I'd ever really thought about until my friend brought it up.

  • @ZaidPhyre

    Tired of people saying these are bad for metal. As a metalhead with these headphones, they sound incredible. There isn't enough bass in metal, songs usually can utilize a bit of a boost.

    Hi Allen, great review. I've been trying to compare, or at least looking for a fair comparison, between the ATH M50x to the V-Moda's M100 and realised they're a different breed. Anyways, the M100 looks awesome and from all the reviews I've heard and read the sound must also be really good. Looking to audition a pair sometime soon. I have tried on the M50x and i must say that they are FANTASTIC!! High anticipation for the M100's.. :)

      HeadphoneReviewHQ Hope you wont mind!
      Impressions :
      1) Unboxing in FastForward mode looks shaky & unclear.
      2) Handheld shots looks too shaky esp in close-up shots where it matters.
      3) Background removal[Green screen?]@3:43 doesnt look pretty.[esp that white outline].
      4) At 1080p @4:43 lots of wasted pixels!
      5) Video at one corner of screen @5:52 and various diff places.
      6) Alien object spotted on occasions ex @13:52[On a lighter note]
      7) Duration : Its just too long for me!
      Probable Solutions :
      1) Cuts videos between gaps. Like : Reaching towards or Bringing it to the cam. will save atleast 5 mins overall!
      2) Label diff aspect of the video with top few features or graphics. will save more time.
      3) BG removal was not necessary. Use natural bg to retain sharpness of the product.
      4) Investing in sliders or a good video-head will reduce shake n enhance the look. Would improve production quality by leaps.
      5) This video could've wrapped in 13 mins without losing any important thing.
      6) The pace of the video could be faster to keep'em engaged even more.
      If you need any help with graphics or intro/outro, logo design, watermark or any video help. Let me know...I'll do it for free.
      Hope you like it.

      I'll get it reviewed soon! Been listening to it with my HE-500's and it's a nice amplifier - it's got a "cooler" sound than some of the other Fiio amps - more in the bass real and rounds out into the lower mids. Nice piece of hardware overall.

    Best Headphone review I've ever seen! How would you compare the V-Moda Crossfade M-100 to BeyerDynamic? I'm looking for something that focuses more on the treble and bass. I listen to rock and pop mostly and i want to feel the thump of the bass drum and bass guitar but here the highs good too! Also i will be using them on my classic 70's receiver which is pretty powerful. Your opinion is much appreciated!

    The reason for the two jacks on the headphones is so that you can plug the cable on either side. Afaik, you can't plug a mic separately in one jack while a cable is in the other. However, V-Moda sells the 'BoomPro Gaming, VoIP Headset Headphone with Mic' separately.

      @BusinessPapers Před 10 lety

      Sweeeeet! I love the featherweight of the momentums, they disappear on my head. For the first time I really notice poor quality mp3s and some live music doesn't sound as good because the momentums don't hide the flaws. My m80s are more forgiving sound wise and I actually think the m50s are a little more forgiving too. But for comfort, for me, the momentum are #1. Can't wait to see what you thought. Lots of fun!

      Ano Nymous I bought them and they also perform beautifully. Of course noise cancelling isn't the best but at about 80% you can't really hear the outside world. They also emphasize the finer sounds in your music. When I went from my monster inspirations to these the music began to sound a lot different. Don't forget too these are studio quality headphones and won best headphones in 2013 I think.

      Ano Nymous Nah you won't need anything else just the headphones and the proper cable (comes with 2). It's pretty good for all kind of use. I found it to be pretty good for games that make their audio more realistic because of how well these headphones portray dynamics

      I prefer the sound signature of the Momentums. They are a "warmer" more delicate sounding set of headphones. The M-100's are darker, bassier sounding. If I could have the Momentum sound with the M-100 build + features...man, what a joy that would be.

    Also I was curious if you think the audio technicas being a bit more defined in the mids and highs would sound better for metal? I listen to a lot of metal which requires the perfect amount of depth in the bottom end but also with a nice, accurate higher register. If the v modas perform just as well in this genre, I'm going to get them. I'm a bass-head when it comes to Techno or DubStep but I also listen to almost EVERY genre so it can't be an overpowering bass with loss in clarity of other aspects.

    Hey there cool review, I've had these for about a month I'm pretty happy myself with the overall package and luckily I usually pair it with my iphone4 too and my laptop, a friend of mine borrowed it as well and was indeed not as loud on his samsung s2. I only have one gripe with these and it's the fact that I'm not that satisfied with the sub-bass, from fiio what do would you suggest to help boost the sub-bass. Someone suggested that I get the JDS Labs C5 but they're more expensive and they're even more expensive where I currently live. If you've reviewed the C5 please let me know if it's worth the extra bucks over the fiio amps? Thanks in advance for a your response i noticed you get back to people that comment and I apologize for my comment being as long as it is.

      Dude, it's so frustrating...there's really not a lot of good places to try various sets. Best Buy is usually hooked up to their own crappy music...the only places I'm aware of where you can audition a number of different sets would be a Magnolia Home Theater, or a Guitar Center. Unless there's a headphone shop in your area, which may work out well.

    I bought the Fiio 18 for android and it works great except the DAC is not lush enuf for me and the Amp can power my higher OHM headphones , The sound stage is ok , I am a DJ from the early 80`s and sound is a thing I really get into and now that I am just an audiophile i lean toward a lush sound in a dac , I like the JDS/Labs AMP/DAC C5D the sound is lush and the sound stage is perfect , The V Moda has a Good bass and on some music it can over power it depends on the music you listen to , All and all a pretty good headset , Not in the class as the P7`s but a great head set for gaming and club misic , Remember Val was a DJ , who created the V Moda line , So he would tend to lean toward ti club the sound , Youe review is on point as always I like your reviews Ill give you a thumbs up

    I love my M100. There is a ridiculous amount of bass quantity, but it doesn't lack in quality for how much there is of it. It does sound a bit more loose than my Momentum, but I recently purchased the XL pads for my M100 and besides skyrocketing the comfort level, it also seemed to tighten up the bass as well. Maybe it's just the distance of my ears from the drivers now though. What do you think HeadphoneReviewHQ?

    2- comparing to the audio technica m50, are these worth the price?

    • @HeadphoneReviewHQ
      @HeadphoneReviewHQ  Před 10 lety +1

      Hmmm..the black ones smudged a little - for pretty much any glossy type headphone you're going to have that problem.
      2. Depends...M100's more powerful bass (almost as tight as m50), fuller midrange, not as much treble details, not as analytical as M50's, better soundstage, best build quality I've ever seen, replaceable cables.
      3. Depends on your media player - for a lot of Android devices, probably do need one. Apple devices seemed to have plenty of power. Two of my favorite amps are the Fiio E11 and the Fiio Andes:

      avishai lowitz Shell is a soft plastic - don't think you have to worry about smudges on that (unless you grab it with buttery fingers!). One amp should be enough - if you want to use with computer and portable media player, look at my review of the Fiio Andes. It's a killer all-around amplifier.

    • @HeadphoneReviewHQ
      @HeadphoneReviewHQ  Před 10 lety

      I own the original SR80's and I can tell you they are an absolute treat! If you can use open headphones (tons of noise leakage and no isolation), and you are into rock and acoustic, they're truly some of the best in that price range. For the SR80 it definitely needed an amp to really get the best out of them - paired with the Fiio E11 on EQ 1 is just glorious listening.

      HeadphoneReviewHQ Damn, I've never been able to get a reply from anyone. How do they stack up against the M50s though? I'm mainly looking into treble and sound stage which is how I ended up looking at the SR80i.

    • @HeadphoneReviewHQ
      @HeadphoneReviewHQ  Před 10 lety

      Lol. You've been going to the wrong places! Vs the M50s they still hold their own. Bass on the M50s is stronger (more punch) but the SR80s are as clean and accurate. Mids on the SR80s are slightly better and they have a more delicate, musical treble. The Grados have some of the best soundstage in the 100 dollar range. Again, their primary drawback would be that they are completely open, but if you are listening in private then its no big deal. The Grados are much more musical but you'll want an amp to get the most out of them. I love both sets of headphones, but for the type of listening you describe, the Grados will take you where you want to go. If the Grados had the punch in the bass that the M50s do, there'd be no competition.

    I have a problem, I think my Beats Pro are better than my M-100 headphones...
    I recently decided to treat my ears and switched over from a pair of beats pros to Crossfade M-100 by V-MODA. When I was doing a sound comparison I realized that my beats sounded much louder on full volume than my M-100's when plugged into my laptop. Do you think my M-100 headphones are defective? I was under the impression that the M-100's were a superior audio device and I consider volume as something very important.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

    • @whiteyonwelfare
      @whiteyonwelfare Před 9 lety +5

      You are correct, the M-100 are far superior in every way to beats/any other gimmick rapper headphone. The reason your beats seem "louder" is because it doesn't take much to "drive" them (they were designed for people who will not know what an amp is or use one). The guy in the video mentions this briefly: Get an amp. If you're willing to spend over 300 dollars on headphones, treat yourself further and get a proper amp to complete the experience. Beats were made for people who have no clue about audio and someone just getting into headphones will likely be unaware of headphone amps. I know V-moda makes a ridiculously awesome amp but you can get a Fiio to get you going for around 50-120 bucks. These amps will plug into your laptop via usb and install automatically. I'm currently saving up for V-Moda's amp but the Fiio E17 is doing the job until then :). Have a good one, buddy.

    • @HeadphoneReviewHQ
      @HeadphoneReviewHQ  Před 10 lety

      That's an interesting transition...your amp makes it even more so. The M-100's aren't as intimate as the M50's. However, the E17 has an airiness to it that would actually help out the M-100's. If you're looking for more bass, and some added soundstage, I'd say the M100's would be a good upgrade. I'm only worried that you won't feel you're getting 3x the headphones for 3x the money. The Sennheiser Momentums are also $300 and they have a similar sound to the M50's, with a warmer midrange and some more present sub-bass. Hope that helps...
