@@DyslexicMitochondria hey brooo i watch your videos. Nice to see you here

Speak for yourself I've seen at least 5 Bugattis and there cool. But I was way more excited when I saw a blackwood
I can’t believe he didn’t mention the AUX / USB port in between the cupholders in the rear. My brother had a Blackwood and he would always connect his iPod or thumb drive to it and listen to music. You can see it at 25:40 above the rear power point. Definitely ahead of its time
I can’t believe he didn’t mention the sunroof.
Man, all the nostalgia with this one. I thought this truck was so cool when I was in high school because it seemed so different than anything else out there. I remember thinking "it's like a Navigator but a truck- amazing!"

Fun fact: When my brother got married in 2009 they rented a stretch Blackwood limo. The driver was clearly very proud of the vehicle as he bragged there were only 2 or 3 Blackwoods ever converted to limos. After this video, I believe him and completely understand why.

Doug is so animated in this one for finally reviewing one off of his top list. He is like a kid on Christmas morning.
There is a man that lives a couple of blocks from me that has owned a blackwood my entire 21 years of life and it never leaves his driveway.
There's someone in my area that owns one, I see it driving around from time to time
Lincoln's second pickup truck attempt is a little less rare
Hy
That mean that they’re either dead inside the house or people deliver their stuff and they never leave
@@servers5717 The trunk might have broken and they could have died in there and when people look around no one knows how to open it .
My friends dad has one that never leaves the driveway. His garage is full of promotional material for it.
I remember these in 02, I bought a brand new 02 Chevy Silverado I payed 26k, this truck cost double! Also I still own this truck it has 117,000 miles, check engine light has never came on, has original alternator and belts, all ways garaged zero rust, stickers are still on the frame and still looks new but I’m finally gonna sell it and get a 2024 GMC Canyon AT4 4x4 ,, I love this new GMC, LOL I buy a new truck every 21 years!
That bed makes a lot of sense to me.
I was on the market for a truck last year. I liked the Ram 1500 and ordered the cheapest one. With shortages making it impossible to get ANY truck from any brand, I started to look elsewhere. So my dealer had a very nice, brand new Ram 1500 Limited for way over what I wanted to spend. But since it was literally the only truck available, and again, it is VERY nice, I convinced myself that I would make it work. Fast forward a few months and I realized that having such a nice truck, while incredibly comfortable, changes your whole approach for the way you can want to use it. I didn't want to take it offroading in fear of scratching the chrome and nice wheels, and I was way over cautious of what I throw in the back in fear of denting anything.
So the Blackwood's bed/trunk makes sense to me. It has a huge amount of usable trunk, so you can put a lot of stuff there. Probably golf clubs or nice luggage. And you get another work truck for work purposes. It does makes sense.
These automotive failures are more interesting videos to watch than Doug's reviews of garage queen exotics.
Absolutely. It's one reason he has 4 million subscribers.
Facts
Agree I only watch the ones with weird cars
LITERALLY
I feel like it's because exotic supercars and hyper cars are all trying to achieve the same one goal: performance and style. And then what ends up happening is you more or less predict what the car will have before you even see in it. And then many of your predictions are right.
However, these quirk failures can't be so easily predicted. Because all quirk cars include a manufacturer taking a risk into unknown territory, hoping they start a new fad. Many fail, some succeed. But because they all start with the idea of being the next new thing, it's almost always a surprise to see to what extent they go to bring that quirk experiment into reality.
2 and a half minutes into the video and this is officially the happiest version of Doug I’ve ever seen on his channel.
@LRavioli His meds need a little adjustment.
Definetly more happy then the H2
This rivals the time he reviewed the Unimog.
Because he's gay and "blackwood" excites him
He’s double dipping on this truck of course he’s happy. He gets paid on the sale, advertises for his website and he got to review it for free in a video he gets paid to produce
Hey now, the Flex is awesome!
The Ford Flex is a beautiful car and nothing anyone says can convince me otherwise.
The flex is massively under rated, the cargo space in the room is awesome . I've easily put eight and 12 hour drives in it and it was always fine of course typical Ford they always seem to cheap out in the oddest places. Till this day I can always hear one start up in a parking lot and recognize it
It’s rare even to find a good-condition, second-generation Blackwood. Nice one, Doug.
Edit: My mistake. Second generation Blackwoods technically didn’t exist. They were known as Mark LTs.
This is why I love these videos. He is so happy and excited and enthusiastic to review a car that really isn't even on anyone else's radar. This is not some corporation magazine making a car video. This is a guy who loves quirky cars having fun. And that's why it's great.

I saw one today in the parking lot of the local Publix in St Augustine Florida. It looked just like a 2002 Lincoln Blackwood with wide whitewall tires. I liked it when it came out and like it even more now. The gentleman who was driving it told me he'd owned it since new and it had 220,000 miles on the original 5L engine. They only built about 3400 of them and it's both a Lincoln and a usable pickup truck (as long as you don't expect it to function as an actual pickup truck). For someone who enjoys rare vehicles, doesn't want to help people move stuff and has a sense of humor, it's a perfect fit. If I can find one for less than $5k, it will be mine!

Quick history lesson: I have been into the auto sales for over 30 years. The Lincoln Pickup is now the Ford F-150 Platinum. Ford learned that it's customers did not want to go to two dealerships "Ford & Lincoln" to shop basically the same truck. Ford launched a luxury trim for it's trucks and SUV's in the 1980's called the Eddie Bauer trim. Some of us remember the rich kids having Eddie Bauer backpacks in school. Anyway, all of us laughed "including me" at the idea of a luxury trim truck. It turned out to be successful and most of us remember O.J. Simpsons white Eddie Bauer Bronco. GM took notice and started the Denali trim for it's SUV's. Ford then took it a step further with the King Ranch and Harley Davidson trims. Ford also went further with the Lincoln Blackwood but it was replaced with the Lincoln Mark LT. Ford realized that they were missing out on a lot of sales and learned that it would be more profitable to offer the Lincoln truck in a F-150 trim, so it became the Platinum. GM truck customers would come into the dealerships looking for luxury trim pickup truck so GM finally built a Denali pickup. Now, everyone including the Tundra and Titan offers a luxury trim pickup truck and the rest is history.
We had a 2005 Excursion Eddie Bauer and it was a solid road trip vehicle.
Awesome history lesson. Thanks!
Thank you for this! Makes a lot of sense honestly
Great insight man!
OJ’s Bronco was an XLT. Eddie Bauers were two toned
The first time I saw one of these I thought “how are you gonna haul drywall in your luxury pick-up”
Great video, although as a former SSR owner feeling a bit miffed on the trunk... The SSR took this to the next level as far as trunk carpeting and saddle bags. Fully carpeted trunk and carpet on the underside of the cover with logos and plastic fake-wood slits, tracks for accessories, grocery-getter style net, and best of all, saddle bags on either side that had a separate key to lock them. Totally stupid in most use cases but I think that rivals the Blackwood's Trunk for quirkiness.
I like how you spent more time talking about a Lincoln Blackwood than a Koenigsegg
Definitely worth it.
Which would you rather keep saying lol
Growing up in Vegas seen these trucks a lot he should just go there he could find one lol

I’m sorry no one can be excited about a 2022 Pilot.
You never know ^^
I second this.
Now I really want to see Doug review the 2nd generation Lincoln Navigator. Particularly the top of the line, end of the generation '06 Luxury/Ultimate package.
I picked up one of those a couple years ago for between 5 and 6 grand, and I can really see how the Blackwood is very much like a stepping stone between the 1st and 2nd generation of Navigator. It's like they demo'd some of the tech in the Blackwood, and also learned some things about body styling and what people actually want in a luxury vehicle.
I believe the only parts on the 2nd generation Navigator that are shared with its Ford counterpart are something along the lines of the 2nd row door panels. And that's it. Well, there are under the hood parts that are shared, but interior and exterior parts that can be seen are pretty much all specific to the Navigator. Not only that, but the 2nd gen Navigator interior harkens back to the '61 Lincoln Continental interior, somewhat mirroring the dash setup.
im not into trucks really, but now i really want this this. its a perfect mix between a car and a truck, even better than the el camino. i love the trunk bed, it seems like it would be perfect for camping too, throw a tarp over it while its open and you have a tent you can sit up in, with a clean carpet floor. you can also do some small electrical tweaks and additions and have a perfect camping spot.

People gotta remember this GPS is from the era when you would physically print out directions from MapQuest to get where you wanted to go. So, yea, this was great to get directions on the fly.
When i heard his rambling about the nav system I thought "dude this was the shit back then". The nav system in my 99 E46 was a monochrome display with arrows on it!
Mapquest fucking lies. That’s why no one today uses them. It’s like it randomly would put a pinpoint wherever it felt like. You were lucky if got you within the same block or two (forget which side of the street). Back in those dark ages, your outdated nonY2K compliant mapsco book was more reliable. You just needed to know the address. Look up the street on the index, pick the town, look up the page and grid number, and you were more or less on your way. No folding required.

@@matthewtuel2747 by that time other state cities were offered, but yes, the majority of cities had to figure out things the hard way. All the pics I took on that trip had to be taken to a store, developed, picked up, paid for, and then scanned one by one. Such archaic chaos!
I've only seen two of those. One was being used by a funeral home as their "flower car" and the other was in daily use by a lawn care company that catered to high end, gated communities. It was management that laughed the hardest. From then on, it was hard not to call it that , even while overwhelmed with black wood, everywhere.
It honestly seems like the Blackwood was ahead of its time and only had a few questionable decisions (i.e. minor payload, RWD, etc). I'm very curious how much the F-150 Platinum and the King Ranch trim levels were influenced by Lincoln's attempt here.

Was an engineer at that time. Can confirm.
The Blackwood always reminded me of that Schwarzenegger movie Twins: they were attempting to fuse the best qualities of an F-150 and Town Car, but ended up with Danny Devito

Fun to watch, impractical truck, enjoyable and educational video. Keep up the great work!
2002 was my first year at Ford HQ. Here’s the unconfirmed internal story I was told re how the Blackwood was born. In those days, Ford had a multi-day program for its hundreds of annual new hires from every department (e.g., engineering, finance, IT, legal, etc.) called New Employee Orientation (NEO). A fun part of NEO (most of it was B-O-R-I-N-G) was breaking into small teams and designing a new vehicle (my teamed designed a Lincoln LS station wagon) and then giving a brief presentation about your creation to all of the other teams, NEO leaders, and at least one member of the Ford vehicle design team. According to our NEO leaders that year, the most famous moment in NEO history was when a random team stunned everyone-but especially the Ford vehicle design team-with the presentation of their brilliant idea for a special edition of Ford’s best-selling F-150 truck, which they called the “F-150 Harley-Davidson”. As the story was told to us, that random team of new employees from multiple departments were immediately rushed from the room and tasked with pitching their shocking why-had-no-one-thought of-this-before idea to a quickly-assembled group of Ford designers and executives. The Blackwood, we were told, was just the latest attempt by Ford (Lincoln) to further expand the market for its best-selling vehicle, the F-150, as inspired by that greatest moment in NEO history.

A lot of modern super cars just don’t have any soul. Whenever I see a Lamborghini or a McLaren on the road, I don’t care enough to look twice. They just don’t move me like older super cars. I don’t feel the urge to drive them. It’s almost like a disconnected feeling I get when I see them.

I think it would sell in today's market. People are paying south of 100k for massive trucks and they never haul anything or go off road. This truck was ahead of its time.
@Doug DeMuro , I LITERALLY SAW ONE In My Area In PA NOT VERY LONG AFTER I Watched you Review This Particular Vehicle!!!! I Was So Awe Struck!!!!
"Your wondering why there are lines on the bed"
The DEA: *HOL UP*
🤣
EFW
I think Doug is the only person in the world that can make people be more excited for a lincoln black wood than a koenigsegg
man uses a yahoo account... pretty quirky. A perfect fit for the lincoln
Doug got me good when he said, "you're wondering why there are lines on the bed aren't you." Why yes Doug I was. And I was wondering why qat the exact moment you assumed I was. Maybe it's because Ive always wondered that or maybe beccause it's all I can think of when I see this truck but I'll go ahead and give credit when it is due and say that's pretty impressive the you timed that statement which made it as hilarious as it possibly could be in that moment. 🤣
Cup holder labeled “Soft Cups Only” was for safety-in event of accident, soft cup projectile less injurious than a glass, ceramic, or metal cup. Especially since those cups were higher up on the dash closer to face and head. It had nothing to do with weight.
5:02 the first active spoiler on a pickup. this truck is next level
funniest comment on this video
-I have a pick up, its a BLACKWOOD actually. What do you need to move?
--Just my fridge and a couple boxes of books
-Sorry, too tall, too heavy and too dirty for my carpeted bed.
--Can you at least take me and my parents to the new place?
-Oh gosh, how do I say this without fatshaming you and your mom and dad...
-Hello?
Good one :)
For the person who wants to drive a pickup truck without having to help people with their shit. Perfect!
The Lincoln Blackwood Infotainment screen reminds me of a bowling alley scoring computer from the Nineties!
I had one… and when it was new, was dope ! LoL Literally this and the Harley model F150 were probably the nicest inside/out stock trucks you could get.
The Denali truck was close…
He's more exited to review a $3k car than anything on this channel so far
Cool to see this happened so fast tho :)
💖👘
Tells you about the real love he has for cars!
His best reviews are for quirky/cheap/old cars
@RxBST The ones i see are all worn out. $3k OBO
@RxBST yikes... yeah I just did some research 10-15k for a CLEAN one with 100k miles. Thats gonna be a hard pass on that American made piece of junk. They will probably never sell at that price. Highest I would go is $7k
Lincoln was ahead of its time. They designed a pickup bed you could store your mother in law with comfort and style
Hmmm carro chefe?
Your sense of humor is amazing.
This is a rather cool car. Thank you for showcasing it. If you could mount rails on top of the bed cover it could be rather handy active life style truck where you could have your bikes on top, bags in the back and different tools/accessories in the storage pockets. Most people will never use their pickup or SUV offroad so it's really nice city truck (if you need such a huge car). I wonder who was the target audience for it.
Load capacity could be higher indeed.
Not sure about the cover lock in the central console as if you are to hand it to the valet, aren't you supposed to leave your key to him as well!? Then I don't see how this would stop valet from unlocking it. More like a nosy wife/children lock.
Even with cover one one can see how much dirt there are in that keyhole on the bottom. Good luck using it. Especially during the winter and when it get rusted.
Navigation unit actually looks OK. Many modern cars still use same system with rotating of letters.
I feel like the main reason Doug made CarsAndBids is so he can find more fun cars to review and I love it
Right. He saw a blackwood in Carlsbad and told himself "don't mind if I do"
"Lincoln Blackwood" is what I went by back when I was doing film
That’s what your sister use to call me
Scotty secretly LOVES Chryslers I think you mean *used* to
"film"
The flex is incredible. I currently own the Lincoln version (mkt) and LOVE it! I don't know if you can count it in the list of failures.
MKT is a Hearse. Even uglier than the Flex
Had I been able to afford one of these when it came out - I absolutely would have gotten one. Perfect for towing a camper in luxury.
early 2000 auto critics: "nobody wants to buy an $80,000 ford"
2021 ford: "hold my beer"
$80K in 2000 is like $110K now.
@@miketheyunggod2534 I know, I adjusted the joke for inflation!!!
@@miketheyunggod2534 a new limited super duty goes for that today and people buy them
@@clarkkastory2660 yeap, insane... 😞
the $80k was already inflation corrected
“Ah yes, softer, softer, softer, what an wonderful thing to program the female voice in the navigation system to say. Lincoln really knew how to class it up” 😂 😂 😂
It should have massaging seats
Volume up should be "harder". Press it repeatedly and people will wonder whats going on in that truck!
😂😂😂
I remember a local dealership had one of these in the showroom for ages.
He finally did it, he found a blackwood worthy of his review standards
Fire alarm: “this is not a warning, please find your nearest exit.”
Doug “BEFORE you do that, let me tell you about CARS AND BIDS”

They got it right with the Mark Lt. I loved the silver one my dad had, too bad they only released the updated body style in Mexico. I think Lincoln should bring another one out 😂
I love the part at 16:58 "Ah yes softer softer softer" lol that has become a meme
The Blackwood is a glorified F-150 that I wanted as a kid for some reason. Its like an old $2 bill, unique and uncommon but not necessarily rare and potentially worth more than it should be to the right person.
Not an f150 with its weak payload limit
@@mannypvd2296
Well, it was directly based on the F-150, the low payload being because of all the garbage added on.
@@mannypvd2296 it was supposed to be a luxury version of the ranger, the f-150 was the Mark LT
I was gonna say the Blackwood is a Ranger, the Mk LT is the F-150
And the Cadillac Escalade is an over glorified Chevrolet Tahoe.
