  • The Riese & Müller Multicharger GT Touring 750 is a premium midtail cargo electric bike made in two frame sizes with adjustable angle stem to dial in fit and body position. Made to order, built in Germany, 8 to 10 week lead time, tons of customization options and custom accessories. High quality fenders with break-away safety feature, premium Magura hydraulic disc brakes 180/203 rotors. Bosch Performance Line CX or Speed motor offers shift detection, high RPM pedal support, and up to 85 newton meters of torque for hauling and climbing. High capacity Bosch PowerPack 750 supports "touring" distance riding and fills fast with 4 amp charger. Mounting points for two bottle cages or other accessories. Bright integrated lights with optimal positioning, additional plastic reflectors on the fork lowers, and reflective tire stripes greatly improve safety. Adjustable air suspension fork, suspension seat post, ergonomic grips, and swept-back handlebar deliver great comfort. Wide 11 to 50 tooth drivetrain with Shimano Deore XT derailleur performs great on or off-road. Included racks provide high load capacity, up to 140lbs on the rear rack. Optional passenger seat and handlebar, child surround, pannier bags, and running boards that can haul a second bike. Fairly heavy at 71.3lbs for the large frame, notoriously expensive because it's considered one of the best brands. Lock, charging port, and kickstand position are imperfect. Potential for incompatibility with other Bosch ebike chargers and apps if you go with the new Smart System option.

      10 years ago I lived in Austin Texas and rode my bike to work every day… and it got pretty rainy some days! Things mostly held up, but the display did end up with some condensation inside and had to be replaced at one point. This was a Pedego City Commuter with a more basic display mind you.

    18:15 It's wonderful that the driver of the car notices you coming on and gives you the way. So often they do not mind what it means to a cyclist to be cut off, especially with the speed you are driving. I am living in the Netherlands and I have a Specialized Turbo Vado 4.0 for over 4 years. I have learned to lower my speed in such situations to be able to react to drivers not noticing me or, even worse, not wanting to acknowledge my presence and my right of way and just drive on ...

    Please do more LONG TERM reviews with maintenance & service costs.
    I own a Multicharger HS Touring model 2020, chain & derailleur. It's put on the market as a longtail cargo Ebike with "multitude" usage.
    Well..think twice before purchase and read loading capacity.
    If you want to use the full capacity (max. 65kg) of this bike, keep in mind the wear & tear on the driving system.
    In my case, 10K km, regular maintenance at dealer, regular cleaning and lubing chain & derailleur, no rough terrains, no adventure, only usage in urban settings. I had 3 total replacements of cassettes, chain because of wear & tear: 3x 300€ including labour = 900€
    At last maintenance routine dealer mentioned my Bosch motor was at the last of its lifespan, ball bearings were gone inside. So, that's a new motor at 10K km!?
    Costs: 1000€ including labour.
    I knew with purchase that a chain driven Multicharger requires more maintenance and replacement, but EVERY 3000km!?
    This bike only lives up to his specifications if you don't exceed the total capacity of the bike: 175kg.
    That means 40-65kg groceries, kids, pets on the back, the driver can NOT weigh more then 80kg.
    Unfortunately I am 100kg and the bike is not loaded or used every day. Heck, it only has 10K km!
    Note: warranty of 2 years has expired, no replacements by dealer nor Bosch, nor Riese-Müller.
    You would expect more quality from a premium bike.
    Note: no complaints about other components, they are all top notch.

      @tconnolly9820 Před rokem

      That is extremely disappointing to know. I was looking at this bike because I'm 2 metres tall and there are very few e-bikes that will accommodate tall people like me.
      I'm also 120kg and I'm not fat. That leaves very little or any room for carrying substantial luggage or cargo.
      I currently ride a manual Merida hybrid and it's usually well loaded as a commuter and shopper and I pull fairly large trailers with usually 30-50kg but I have had over 70kg excluding the trailer.
      No problems after 6 years. I thought the R&M would be built like a tank in comparison!

    Hi, Cort. Thanks for another very informative review. I can't think of anyone better to ask, so here goes: do you have any data on what the _quietest_ ebike is? I figure it's likely something with a Gates drive, internal hub transmission, and middrive motor, but I have been unable to find anything definitive. Silence would be for me, a real luxury I'd pay extra to enjoy. Thanks again!

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  Před 2 lety +5

      Hi Dan! The Brose motors tend to be very quiet. Specialized uses them, consider the Vado or Como. If you find a Trek with Bosch Performance or Active Line Plus it would probably be a lot quieter than Performance like CX or Speed. I haven’t covered as many Yamaha ebikes lately, but you could explore the Giant models with these motors, they might be a little quieter… and yes, the belt drive and any IGH or CVT hub would be smooth and quiet too :)

I used to have the Specialized Turbo Creo with the Brose motor and it was less noisy than the Bosch but not as quiet as the Serial 1 which also has the Enviolo AutomatiQ belt drive drivetrain. A real pleasure to ride and very quiet.

    R&M has always been (and will be ;-) ) high on details and quality, but I find lately they got some serious competition, with a completely different price tag. Personally still no fan of the new Bosch system, the button-part looks cheap and (with display in middle) unnecessarily with indicators.

    Any plans to test their new Urban line? Looks really interesting.
    On this specific bike- Not sure what Bosch (and by extension RnM) are thinking with the new smart system. Seems a bit half baked in both hardware and software, no class 3 support, and no rohloff hub. The multicharger in general seems a bit overpriced. You can make an argument for the price premium on their cargo and full suspension bikes but on this model... eh. Maybe in Germany the pricing is more competitive 🙂.I'm also surprised at their lack of weather accessories considering the Yuba, RadWagon, and Tern have it. They should have plenty of practice via the Load & Packster too- odd.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  Před 2 lety +3

      I guess it’s hard to say about the noise, I’m usually holding the camera with my arm out and angled from the side or it’s attached to the frame. I actually turn down the motor noise for the clips that I overlaid on speaking video. The Bosch high-performance motors do tend to be a bit louder, but the sound of gravel and wind usually muscle it a bit. There are so many Bashi by dealers, you could test ride another bike that uses the same motor and see for yourself :)

It would be easier on my arthritis if I didn't have to pedal all the time. Can you specify if you like to do both, at times not pedal at all and when wanting to exercise and save on battery to have the option to pedal assist? With all the comments about price I feel the need to check in on this topic.If you watch Chris Nolte's (Propel Ebikes) youtube video on battery fires in small consumer electronics including scooters and ebikes you might gain a bit more knowledge about the importance of quality control around the batteries and battery management systems for these bikes.
    I don't like to pay more for an ebike than necessary but I have purchased 12 ebikes in the last 3 years and there are large differences in quality, function and reliability. I've had my share of inexpensive China direct and cheap Chinese branded ebikes from US sources and have found that often, cheaper isn't better. I ride 200+ miles per week and ebikes have become both vehicles for exercise and outdoor enjoyment.
    I like a quiet bike that makes me work a bit (e.g.no throttle) for a good workout but also allows me to just cruise along with a good amount of help pedalling when I'm riding with my wife. We use our ebikes for being outside riding to breakfast or dinner in our area, and we bring them along on trips to the coast or mountains as a preferred method of transportation for exploring and sightseeing.
    Many of you would be shocked at my total spend on ebikes but that cost is very reasonable if you consider the cost of a boat, or jet skis or quads and, the ebikes give us far greater utility in that we use them year round. The best way to determine what ebike you buy is to test ride one first. Rentals are easy to find and many places offer very good quality bikes to try out. That's my $.02 ...

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for sharing your perspective Robert! I agree that some of the sticker shock feelings might be from people who are in a different situation or aren't seeing the full costs and risks of cheaper products. I actually wish I had spent more on my first electric bike because I used it so much and wanted higher quality and better comfort :)

    • @rmkep
      @rmkep Před 2 lety

      @@ElectricBikeReview Thanks Court, agree that having and keeping to a budget is always a good idea. Most any ebike is fun to ride for a novice and if the use case is occasional riding then just about any bike can fill that bill. It seems that many people who have price objections will compare a higher priced ebike to a motorcycle and say they would rather have the motorcycle at the price. Fair enough, but the comparison is apples to oranges, The use cases are very different as are the places you can ride them.
      Essentially, it's a horses for courses situation and reading your reviews allows people to make a more informed decision. Test riding is also helpful and rental ebikes, test rides at an LBS or riding a friends ebike are good ways to make that happen.

      At 7000 dollars you'd expect that at least its a 40ah battery for longer range.

  • @HenryTheBoilermaker3rdYear

    Why are ebike so expensive? For that price you can just get a emotorcycle.

    Won’t buy Bosch until they provide a decently powerful motor. 250W is silly, no matter how much torque.

    • @tomdowning9358
      @tomdowning9358 Před 2 lety +3

      It really depends. These motors are extremely powerful with up to 85 nm of torque and a peak wattage of 500w. I can not think about a hill you climb where a 750w makes much of a difference. It also is the balance of all other components that makes all the difference. Purely rating a motor by wattage is wrong.

    The design is perfect tbh specially the frame but man its too expensive lmao and overall is dissapointed only 25mph?? Eh and low AH and volts hell no! I would stick to my annioki a8 pro with 52V 60AH 1000w motor for $2.4k specially with my magicycle deer mini step thru 750-1100W peak with 52V and 20 AH 96NM tourq!! For low as $2.4k this riese muller is way behind of specs and too expensive

    Und ist der Berg auch noch so steil, in`s schwitzen komm ich nicht. Mein Motor macht die Arbeit und ich tritt lässig mit....😎

    "Mixte" is pronounced in French and English as simply, "mixed", but make a "t" sound instead of "d". It'd NOT "mix-ty"! Je parle Francais and Anglais.

    I'm a mechanic and i think these bikes are really overrated. They are just too expensive... I always just call them Rießen&Müll wich translates to basically "Huge Garbage" cause they are always so big, heavy and expensive😅

    Underpowered, under spec', under ranged. For 7 thousand dollars even if you had the money buying this is just asinine.

  • @MHH3180

    Way too much money for aftermarket plastic fenders and cheap, off road tires. Why have a mid-step and a separate low step when that too tube could go straight all the way back, mixed style? Why straight gauge square tubes? That's buzzy and dull! Such a great idea soo poorly executed, especially for the money.

    For $7k I rather buy a used Honda.

      I think you live in a place where there is little bike-infra, low fuel prices and taxation on cars and have a subscription to do your cardio? :-)
      [but agreed this is a high priced, but well build (Mercedes-like) German bike]

      @@tom.jacobs i live in Chicago and there's very good bike infra. Gas prices are really high but I drive a hybrid lol. But yeah this is a really nice bike however, for 7k i would much rather buy a used compact vehicle. The most I'll spend on an e-bike is 3k. I have two lectric xps 1k a piece and im happy with that.

    For that price, just buy a Japanese scooter. They get really good gas mileage.
