One of my uncles is like this. UAW worker for Ford. Doesn't take a day off for nothing for most of the year until the Foreman starts screaming at him, due to both labor laws and sheer overtime costs. So what he does is, lumps all his sick time, PTO, and some "comp time" to take an 8 week vacation to go cross country. Used to drive the Foreman nuts!
yeah, i try to be like that myself and my bosses hate it, which i don't understand. every time i take off they complain about not being able to get jobs done while i am gone, but here i am telling them a full year in advance when my long vacation will be once every four years, and offering to let them tell me when my other long vacation is as long ahead as they would like to give me one good vacation every two years. they can literally just not book any jobs that need me during that time and tell customers we are already booked for those dates.
My job is 4 days on 4 days off and I get 1 vacation day each month and one sick day each month so what most of us do is build them up so around deer season I'll take off for 1 month cause that's not 30 days of vacation it's only half lol it sounds difficult to figure that out but it's not lol
My step father almost gave the town council a heart attack. Seems they had not been really keeping up with all the PTO. When they installed a new computer system and updated the records the computer damn near blew a fuse. Over the years he had not used any of his PTO he had built up. And it just kept rolling over. Two years, that is how much PTO he had built up. He was able to retire two years early and still get paid for another two years before his retirement kicked in. The town was pissed and someone got fired over not keeping the records straight. They changed a lot of rules because of what happened. He did not even know he had that much time built up.
Had a chemistry teacher in highschool, that did the same thing, literally never used a sick day, or a PTO day, she was paid sick time and PTO for 2 or 2.5 years, before she officially retired.
That's crazy. I would do that around here if you don't use'um they give you cash at the end of the year. 8 years never took my pto. Last year new policy, you don't use'um you loose'um.
So at my job we get an hour for break time. 30 for lunch 30 for however we want. Is it OK that I just work until my last hour, without taking a break and go home early?
@@MastemaJack shit in Nebraska last I knew u were allowed to do that if its factory work. I usually ended up working later bc I was bossman for the shift still wouldn't take a lunch tho

Worked with an older fellow who was forced to take time off. He took off Monday and Friday off every week for 3 months of our busy season. I still laugh when I think of this and hope old man is having a great retirement.

Penn dot works less than ricky. Anyone near Pittsburgh knows route 28 has been under construction as long as I remember..and I’m almost as old as roscoe
Trying to figure out who runs the I35 North rebuild in DFW. Ive been going to Cabelas half as much as I want to because for almost 2 years since I moved here, that highway is a nightmare.
One of my coworkers has worked at the warehouse I work at for over 30 years. We recently recognized the guy for his perfect attendance and how he'll bring in food every so often for the rest of the warehouse (50 people). He never calls in or misses, and even if we try to get him to use PTO he never does. He has like 3 months of PTO and sick time saved up from this year alone.
Early Retirement. That's possibly what they're also aiming for. Not just the "If I stop working and moving. I'm going to die at this age." type of thing. I knew a friend who worked with a school janitor that did the same thing with all his pto, sick days and vacation time over the years. Dude retired either 3 or 4 freaking years early. Surprised him too! But in a good way!
New Orleans got potholes so big, you can literally lose a car in it. I seen one where only 1 wheel was left sticking out. I said they might as well just fill the whole in with the car there. Might be best foundation them swamp roads ever had.
"Good enough for who it's for" reminds me of when I was doing carpenter work and something wasn't quite right. It would be either "Only another carpenter would know the difference" or "Can't see it from my house!"
The fact I had a company meeting the other day were I was told that if we didn’t raise our pto use to 7 days a quarter from 4 days a quarter they would have to do layoffs, makes this even Funnier.
I’d honestly like to see Rosco or Ricky just get fed up and slap somebody! Safety man ain’t gonna fire either one cause he just doesn’t know if Ricky’s the owner or what.
We have an on going joke about Penndot. If you go by and see the shovel facing one way and when you come back it's facing the other way... it's so the shovel gets a tan on both sides.

😁🤣😁🤪 The Louisiana State Maintenance Department and the roads have been the bane of every realistic joke since before I started driving.
"Good enough for who it's for." Is perfectly valid just ANYONE that's worked in a Machine/Die Shop.
As a Tool and Die Maker, I can confirm this. I heard the old hands saying this (I'm 32 and got my papers 3 years ago), and now even I say it.
“You won’t know if it’s me punching you or you bouncing off the ground” lol. That line is awesome 😊
