While my husband's job keeps him away a lot, the atmosphere of his job is scary and risky,, he doesn't help as much as I'd like, and I work 24/7 as a stay at home mom and supporter of my husband's career, I HAVE SO MUCH TO BE GRATEFUL FOR. God has protected my husband everyday and led his steps to this job, my husband is a hard worker and has never let us do without financially, he has sacraficed a lot for us to have food and a safe home and for me to be able to stay home to raise our kids, I have the love of my high school sweetheart, I have a good man who is faithful to me, I have amazing kids who are healthy, we have more than what we need as far as material things as well. Thank you Joy, the sister in Christ that I am so grateful for.

I'm a 43 year old woman who has struggled with contentment quite a bit in my life. The thing I've struggled with is infertility. I've never been pregnant, and never will be. I teach preschool, and have seen many parents over the years who place their focus on things other than their children (I primarily work with high risk families), and its hard. It's hard to see God bless other women with something that I want, and listen to those women tell me how their kids are an inconvenience in their lives. 11 years ago,I became a step mom. This has been a two edged sword, as I asked God to make me a mom, but didn't want to "raise someone else's kids". It has been so rough at times... being a step parent can be (not always) harder than being a bio parent. I get left out of major decisions, Mother's day, and still get the "You're not my mom" attitudes (my kids are 21/19/17), but I am grateful that I still got to be part of raising them. When I was told I would never have children, a lot of my dreams died. Earlier this year, I was told that I was going to be a grandma! Only God can do that! (And yes, those were the words.... grandma. I don't know what made me cry more- the baby on the way, or getting to be "grandma")!

Choosing contentment is not always easy because we see so many things we want if we look towards that direction. However, when we to make a conscious decision to be simple and contented, we will be drawn by God to see the beauty of a simple life. For me, I was so tired of just wanting and wanting and wanting but still don't get satisfied after getting all my wants. That was how it started but today, it has drawn me so close to God. Living simply is a calling all Christians should follow. I stay contented by watching videos like yours and Kate from coffee with Kate and by reading some good Christian books about simplicity and frugality. By the way, your compound is beautiful. I would love more rooms in my home right now for office space but I choose to be pleased with what I've been given. Thanks for sharing.

As someone else living in Africa, I can relate to having a house that is not ideal. But as you said, any time I start to feel discontent, I can look around me at others who have so much less. It's all perspective. There's a quote I've seen. I don't remember the exact words, but something like, "The secret to being content is not having what you want, but wanting what you have." Practicing gratitude helps me to keep this in mind!
I struggle with contentment with our home all the time. I hate our house. But this is what we can afford so I can stay home with my kids and put them in a Christian school. And in the time of the pandemic this house that I hate has become our safe haven. Now I get up in the morning and thank God for my house and my family being healthy inside of it.
I have been struggling with spending . I see ads on Facebook or Instagram and I end up buying it on my credit card and now I'm in some debt. Please pray I can stop spending and be content with what I have and catch myself up with debt. You are greatly influenced me to do better in many areas of my life.
I love these thoughts Joy!! I was reading in Ephesians earlier today and was so struck by how God lists covetousness alongside sexual immorality! It’s actually led to a lovely discussion on my what’s app bible study group. ❤️ The more I fill my mind with Jesus the more happy and content I become. We truly have everything if we have Christ!! 🙌🏻
Yay for Oregon girls 🌲🌲🌲! Forgetting what is behind... counting all things losses.... to gain Christ and know Him intimately by placing my areas of discontent into His hands. I strap on my battle boots and run like crazy forward in the race he has called me to. I call out, “Oh Jesus let me love you more than XYZ!” /// Keep at it, sweet Joy and channel subscribers. Nothing in this world is as pleasing as knowing we are living as wholeheartedly for Him as we can because we love Him. Remembering this makes desired changes in my home or wardrobe etc feel small.

Hi, Joy! I just love your yard. Gorgeous...but, I'm a nature "nut". I am ALWAYS, always content when I'm in nature. I said to my husband once, "why is it human nature to compare up...never down? In the western world we always want more, more, more. We compare with those who we perceive have more. Yet, there really are way more people on the planet with less! So, we actually already have more!" I guess it's true that there is a God-shaped hole in all of us that can only be filled by God. But, we try & fill it with everything else.
It is so easy to forget how blessed we are....some people struggle to get food and clean water. I am grateful and enjoy giving what I can to those in need. Love your videos

My contentment struggle is our grocery budget. I know that sounds goofy to some but I'd Love to just be able to go to the store buy all the things we need and some wants without having to keep track of every dollar I'm spending. But.. I try to remind myself that my budget is bigger than some people's and I do my best at being grateful for what I do have.
I love hearing you talk about contentment =) It is the way to true happiness in my book. I got so tired of the endless cycle of wanting and then never being satisfied. Learning to be satisfied with the things God has given me, and in the life he has given me is what has made me so happy. Also valuing Him above all - knowing that Jesus is the true prize of this life and the one to come. I'm definitely interested in heavenly treasure vs. earthly. I don't see it as an acetic life but actually one where I have the most true joy. You're right about finding pleasure in the simplest things. The dress looks beautiful on you! So happy you're uploading again.

I have a brand new house and find myself being unhappy with it at times. I often end up sticking my foot in my mouth and complaining about my situation to my brother who is over 60 with a small house and a handicapped son and low income job. It always humbles me. The problem is we had a piece of land we wanted to build on and we ended up selling it so now we are in a neighborhood and a house we like but don’t love and I find myself comparing it to the one we wanted to build. Some things that help me are watching videos about minimalism. I love watching Rob Greenfield.
Side note: Maybe you could use a lighter haircolor and change your hair slowly rather than going from dark brown straight to gray. Just do a lighter brown maybe? (Just a thought. I am not a professional. 🙂)
Everything you shared is so true and very much needed (to hear), especially for believers. We are reminded that our citizenship is in heaven and that we are to be longing for our real home. While it's not evil to enjoy the beauty of inside decor or outside green space, if our joy is measured by these things, we know they are controlling us, instead of merely being things we appreciate. My mood goes downhill fast when I begin to compare or spend too much time searching for an item of decor or clothing, etc... But when I begin to thank God for all the luxuries we enjoy (running water, heat, plenty of food), it puts life in perspective.
You do an amazing job with the things you have to make yourself look fashionable and your place welcoming (at least the pictures we've seen); your life of simplicity and contentment is attractive to those of us who seek the same, so continue to give thanks and encourage us. :)
Watching your videos reminds me of how blessed we are and i just try not to think about the stuff I don’t like but enjoy the things I do like about my house. Oh and I try to remember and tell myself it won’t always be like this!

I love your honesty I struggle with contentment, wanting things like a family, husband, non toxic clothing, food storage. And I am not suggesting that any of these things would make me happy I am happy but I am guilty of wanting more. Even when I have a list of needs and wants every time I cross something of the list I seem to add four more things on it. I am so grateful for what God has provided me with, finances, eyesight, a natural non toxic lifestyle, shelter, my health has improved significantly I could write a list of all my blessings, why cant I just be fully content . God has blessed me in so many ways. I have been trying to use what I have read more and get back to traditional skills like making my own cleaning vinegar, shampoo ect instead of always rushing to buy more using what I have. But truth be told I am eyeing this beautiful linen dress, Thanks for sharing x

For example, I buy things to prepare for different things in life, hoping if I have these things I will find security. I am realising just now I do this. I needed this reminder. We've been on a journey the past few years to simplify. We sold our amazing mid century place in the best part of town. It was our dream home that we remodeled...that came with a price tag just slightly out of our means after all of was said and done. A year later and we just moved into our tinsy tiny container home in a transitional area of town. An area that reminds us we are to live on mission. 95% of it, I love, but a few things that were supposed to take with us became items our home buyers wanted handsomely (a Big Chill fridge and a Joybird couch, both Christmas and anniversary gifts from my husband). Items that were promised would be replaced when our home was done being built. Before a pandemic...back when video work was prevalent. I'm trying to look at our current items with contentment and not frustration. It's a silly problem, but I too like pretty things.;-)

The Lord is dealing with me also, I live in New York State, and I wish i had a better country home, but like you, I literally look at my surroundings and see how many of my people "latinos" come and work on farms and are literally put in a home, sometimes 10 people or more in one house, sharing a kitchen, sharing everything and sometimes they are not in good conditions. And yet here I am complaining about my house which I know they wish they had. I am really trying to live simply, on one side I see people from my church living fancy wishing I had the new house but I am glad, God has allowed me to be where I am. I am content, I try to be a minimalist when it comes to my house. Our dream though is to one day have a small country home well layed out, and as of now, we enjoy our not so perfect house with our chickens and ducks, because I know my 3 yr old is growing up in a good and healthy environment. Thank you so much for your videos too. I really missed listening to you talking ❤ I'm 24 yrs old and you are such an inspiration to me. God bless you
Hi Joy, for years I didn't like the layout of my home either. It's a very old house and the rooms are small and closets are tiny but I just changed my mindset. Families made it work before us and there are so many people who would be happy to be able to live in a house. I think of Paul writing the new testament in a prison with contentment! I also remember people like JaJa-Marie that you spoke about having so little but being so grateful. For the most part I am a grateful person always praying that GOD keeps me focus on what is really important... my soul and others and their souls.

They make me smile your so lovely and you always give me pause to thought ( your daughter is precious by the way) I love your outdoor space and the fire to sit around. . I am finding myself in my forties more content not wanting and trying to be happy with my lot not chasing anymore or wasting money /time . It doesn’t make me happy I realise now. I like to try and give more to others as I am thank full now for the life that I have been blessed with by god. I get my contentment from this and helping others .. am thankful for a pantry full of food and a warm comfortable home ( lovely children and husband )

Hello Joy. I really enjoy your videos. So happy you are able to find the time to film can be hard with kids. So thank you for that. I try to find contentment in every thing and that can be hard when everyone around you even other Christians have the perfect Pinterest life. I struggle with a handful of chronic illnesses that keep me down when I want to be doing. So that is where I struggle to be content. I feel blessed on days I can get up and do housework and work in the garden. I try to be thankful I know other people have it worse than I do.
Also I am 42 and went completely Gray my thirties. They make this a lovely hair dying shampoo 😍

I am in the process of extreme downsizing. We never had a lot of stuff but still, I am finding myself asking "Am I content with just this or that?" I've made it a game to see how to best donate or find the right person or charity to give things too, instead of just dumping it off at a donation site. The great thing with being in my 40's, I never kept up with the anyone, trends, social media, etc and now, I am just me, doing my thing. And we are able to make big changes without much stress. It's nice! Our goal is to be able to pack all we own into the smallest moving van/truck, when we are ready. I am also working on my food budget because I let it get a little nuts during this time of the virus. I planted herbs yesterday and what a calming, stress relieving process that was. I went to water them, listened to the birds chirping and watching lizards climb on my new cacti I planted. Such a simple life and I love it!
