Now we live in the states and have 5 kids and are expecting twin girls in October. Thank you for your encouragement. Great video Joy! We live simply so we can give generously and live the life God has called us to. Jesus himself lived a very simple and humble life. Growing up in Africa, I know that there are lots of people that need stuff and so we live simply so others can live. I try to make my meals very simple. I have always love your contents! You and your husband are Blessed to choose such a purpose filled career in being missionary's together. I do what I can to help others in need and that will be grateful in this sometimes unforgiving world. I save money by not shopping and reading devotionals that are biblically based that I find in yard sales or thrift stores. Also I play games with my grandkids that have nothing materialistic in them. Such as red light green light, hide and seek and letting them cook with me. Keep the Faith sweet home Alabama

Thank you so much for sharing these tips! I only subscribe to a few channels on CZcams and was so excited when your new videos popped up recently! A couple other channels that I watch and that you may enjoy as well are Building a Home with J&N, and Little House on the Mountain. My family has some big changes coming up soon and your tips will come in handy! We just sold our home and will be living full time in an RV for the next two years until my husband retires from the military. There won't be space for me to be buying unnecessary things and I am so grateful for this opportunity to focus on more important things and to save up to build our home in a couple more years!
I wish!!! On the avacados. I love them but they are so expensive here ($2.50/small avacado). We live on a very tight budget (low-income) and so we don't eat out at all (even before quarantine). We eat all our meals at home and take bag lunches every day to work. We have cut our budget back to necessity only. I shop replacement only on all clothing, hygiene, household, etc. Other than that we pay utilities, car insurance, fuel, groceries and things for our puppy. We keep our lives super simple. We participate in free activities (hiking, canoeing, backyard BBQs). I have also embraced minimalism in a big way, not to declutter because we don't own much, but more for clarifying my values and live them daily. While my husband struggles a little more with "keeping up with the Jones", I really have come to love the simplicity of our lives.
So glad you are back to doing videos!! The Bible says to stay sober(minded) so that’s what you are saying! 😉 I’d love to see that video you mentioned about responsibly giving! It’s crazy how quick we can fall into the slippery slope of what we don’t have rather than what we do have if you don’t keep your eyes on the Lord rather than the drama that you can be surrounded by!!! We have at least one, if not two leftover nights a week. We also cook simple, mostly from scratch meals and it saves so much money. We are a family of 8. Great video! ❤️

Right before my husband and I were married, a family member said that we would be so poor and would be “eating dirt” in ministry. God has provided for all our needs and the needs of those around us through the years in amazing ways.
I love your content and I’m excited to follow the ladies you have shared! Finding frugal/simple living accounts to inspire and encourage is so helpful! It can be difficult because I feel like a lot of the channels/accounts I started following for frugal living content become so popular but then the people start making a lot of money (good for them!) but then their content isn’t really relatable any more so it can be harder to find relatable frugal living accounts!

Great video , I totally agree on not wasting food, just this past weekend I made a huge bowl of pasta salad for a bbq which ended up not being eaten. lol I guess I need to get a better recipe, anyways I took it back home and told my daughter we had to eat it all up, so we basically ate it for lunch and dinner for 3 days until it was gone! my daughter knows how much I hate wasting food so it does not happen very often in our home. Chick-fil-A is one of our favorite places to eat in the US. In the city where we stay, there's not a Chick-fil-A, so we always make it a special treat when traveling. One of the things I miss the most is berries, but we have the best mangoes in the world (here in West Africa) and we are loving those.

My mother in law gave us some courgette (zucchini) plants as she had too many. They are now enormous & today my husband bought in the first courgette from the garden & I have no idea what to do with it (it’s not my favourite vegetable). I would happily swap you some for an avacado! Xx

One of my favorite meals with avocado is a grilled cheese. Put a Basil pesto on the bread, add the cheese, fry it up, then add the avocado and tomato if you have kids that like it. P.s. please share beans and rice recipes. We have one we like. We also have severe digestive issues. I've tried 3 day soaking. Soaking in ACV, slow, all day cook, and quick pressure cooking, and it still results in intense stomach pain and a smell that make a beef barn smell mild. No joke. Help.
YUM!!!! I have basil in the yard so I need to make this RIGHT NOW!! :) I'm sorry, I'm not a lot of help for digestive issues..I just soak my beans, and either pressure cook or crockpot all day. Sorry I'm not more help.

Can you add the books to your description? I also watch during dishes and dinner/breakfast so I cant always write them down I have been seriously convicted about how we live. I'm blunt with numbers because when we were in Dave Ramesy class and we got to the lowest number to learn how to budget, my husband and I got excited because now here were some numbers we relate too. Then they said, "ok, let's do the lowest budget and how to work with that. You make $30,000 and how do you work expenses..." and my husband and I looked at each other and just laughed. It was one of those helpless, what the heck are we doing wrong, laughs. And the teacher was confused. And we had to explain that we would love to make $30,000 a year. We made, at that time, $18,000 with me just having my 3rd child... in California. No debt, we were the only ones that didnt, but we didnt know how to plan to save, plan for insurance (cause we didn't have any), and we wanted someone to show us what we were doing wrong. Now we have 5 kids, live in Indiana, my husband is going to seminary, and our income is $26,000, still under that median salary. I have always seen it as a crutch because everyone has always made more. But lately I've seen my own selfishness. Yes, we have very hard months but compared to the rest of the world, we have it good!!!! But I have gotten use too the fact if it's under $20, I can get it. Its incredible to know that I have always known how small numbers add up quickly but since I cant point to a wall of collections and say, "look it" I never realized how much I spent. I have a small CZcams channel and I have decided to go in this direction to share this story, of making "so little", of watching 2 of my kids almost die from freak accidents (I mean one was a down powerline! You dont read that everyday), and the bills, and now we have another child whom we just learned has a serious heart condition. Its incredible what God has allowed in order to get my attention on this.

@@JoyForney you know, I know I have "raw days" (love how you worded that), but I also see how much God has carried me! When you're drowning your not necessarily thinking of all your going through, you're just focused on keeping your head above water and making sure you dont use all your energy up until helps arrives. Once you're out of that situation you can look back and see the many ways you were prepared for that (swim lessons, learning to remain calm in panicky moments, and more) and how you had help around you coming to your aid. I look at it like that. I even believe that all I have gone through is preparing me for something I cant even imagine. I just pray that God continues to strengthen me for that.
Can you receive Seeds from the States ? Find out and I'll send you guys seeds from my stash. Herbs, Tomatoes, peppers, squash/zucchini and berries. Study some gardeners online when you can, some veggies would love that gorgeous African heat. Check out Monty Don visiting a place in South Africa called Babylonstoren. That video is beautiful and inspiring about what can grow in Africa that you wouldnt expect!!! Blessings and good and informative video. God is good even in these dark days. !!!!

We also live by faith as missionaries in the Philippines. I love your quote about living simply so we can give generously. Right before my husband and I were married, a family member said that we would be so poor and would be “eating dirt” in ministry. God has provided for all our needs and the needs of those around us through the years in amazing ways.

I love your content and I’m excited to follow the ladies you have shared! Finding frugal/simple living accounts to inspire and encourage is so helpful! It can be difficult because I feel like a lot of the channels/accounts I started following for frugal living content become so popular but then the people start making a lot of money (good for them!) but then their content isn’t really relatable any more so it can be harder to find relatable frugal living accounts!

Great video , I totally agree on not wasting food, just this past weekend I made a huge bowl of pasta salad for a bbq which ended up not being eaten. lol I guess I need to get a better recipe, anyways I took it back home and told my daughter we had to eat it all up, so we basically ate it for lunch and dinner for 3 days until it was gone! my daughter knows how much I hate wasting food so it does not happen very often in our home. Chick-fil-A is one of our favorite places to eat in the US. In the city where we stay, there's not a Chick-fil-A, so we always make it a special treat when traveling. One of the things I miss the most is berries, but we have the best mangoes in the world (here in West Africa) and we are loving those.

My mother in law gave us some courgette (zucchini) plants as she had too many. They are now enormous & today my husband bought in the first courgette from the garden & I have no idea what to do with it (it’s not my favourite vegetable). I would happily swap you some for an avacado! Xx

One of my favorite meals with avocado is a grilled cheese. Put a Basil pesto on the bread, add the cheese, fry it up, then add the avocado and tomato if you have kids that like it.
P.s. please share beans and rice recipes. We have one we like. We also have severe digestive issues. I've tried 3 day soaking. Soaking in ACV, slow, all day cook, and quick pressure cooking, and it still results in intense stomach pain and a smell that make a beef barn smell mild. No joke. Help.
YUM!!!! I have basil in the yard so I need to make this RIGHT NOW!! :) I'm sorry, I'm not a lot of help for digestive issues..I just soak my beans, and either pressure cook or crockpot all day. Sorry I'm not more help.

I have been seriously convicted about how we live. I'm blunt with numbers because when we were in Dave Ramesy class and we got to the lowest number to learn how to budget, my husband and I got excited because now here were some numbers we relate too. Then they said, "ok, let's do the lowest budget and how to work with that. You make $30,000 and how do you work expenses..." and my husband and I looked at each other and just laughed. It was one of those helpless, what the heck are we doing wrong, laughs. And the teacher was confused. And we had to explain that we would love to make $30,000 a year. We made, at that time, $18,000 with me just having my 3rd child... in California. No debt, we were the only ones that didnt, but we didnt know how to plan to save, plan for insurance (cause we didn't have any), and we wanted someone to show us what we were doing wrong.
Now we have 5 kids, live in Indiana, my husband is going to seminary, and our income is $26,000, still under that median salary. I have always seen it as a crutch because everyone has always made more. But lately I've seen my own selfishness. Yes, we have very hard months but compared to the rest of the world, we have it good!!!! But I have gotten use too the fact if it's under $20, I can get it. Its incredible to know that I have always known how small numbers add up quickly but since I cant point to a wall of collections and say, "look it" I never realized how much I spent.
I have a small CZcams channel and I have decided to go in this direction to share this story, of making "so little", of watching 2 of my kids almost die from freak accidents (I mean one was a down powerline! You dont read that everyday), and the bills, and now we have another child whom we just learned has a serious heart condition. Its incredible what God has allowed in order to get my attention on this.

@@JoyForney you know, I know I have "raw days" (love how you worded that), but I also see how much God has carried me! When you're drowning your not necessarily thinking of all your going through, you're just focused on keeping your head above water and making sure you dont use all your energy up until helps arrives. Once you're out of that situation you can look back and see the many ways you were prepared for that (swim lessons, learning to remain calm in panicky moments, and more) and how you had help around you coming to your aid. I look at it like that. I even believe that all I have gone through is preparing me for something I cant even imagine. I just pray that God continues to strengthen me for that.
Can you receive Seeds from the States ? Find out and I'll send you guys seeds from my stash. Herbs, Tomatoes, peppers, squash/zucchini and berries. Study some gardeners online when you can, some veggies would love that gorgeous African heat. Check out Monty Don visiting a place in South Africa called Babylonstoren. That video is beautiful and inspiring about what can grow in Africa that you wouldnt expect!!! Blessings and good and informative video. God is good even in these dark days. !!!!
