I loved this video! I save money by not buying any paper products, except for tp, which i keep mostly for guests. I use a bidet sprayer and small flannel cloths. Fabric napkins, rags instead of paper towels, and hankies. I also have chickens.
I make most of my cleaners. And get the others from the dollar store. I buy in bulk on Amazon subscribe and save. I get my shoes used from ebay. I make a lot of my own clothes. I dont eat much meat either. I have saved SO MUCH MONEY!!! i also keep track of my utilities, and change companies regularly for better prices. I only buy used electronics. Any designer things i want, i buy used on eBay. I batch my errands. I wear my clothes as many times as i can before i wash them. I do when they are dirty or smelly. I repair things instead of replacing them. I watch you tube to fix appliances and i change my own brakes!! Thanks for asking. It's fun to list them all!

I think this is my favorite video you have done so far! I am a Louisiana girl by birth but have lived in Texas most of my life. Beans and rice are a staple.... especially RED BEANS AND RICE! LOL We used to have chickens but a predator got them. I miss my girls.... loved seeing your animals so much. What a lovely life you have. Your willingness to be flexible and your gentle humble spirit sure bless me every time you share! Thank you for serving our Lord in Uganda!

Great tips! We LOVE Beans and rice! We just got internet in our home again after a few yrs without and the tip of no data on our phones would cut down our bills drastically. Thank you! Love you videos. Keep them coming and don't be discouraged by the negative comments. I know its hard not to. Think of it this way, if they are bothering you then they are leaving some one else alone.

I loved this video. We've lived several places overseas, but right now we are in the US. One biggest saving tip I would say is try hard not to waste food. Use your fresh stuff right away or freeze/can it. Stale bread (or heels) get frozen to become croutons or french toast later. I use bones to make broth. We eat our leftovers or I remake them into a casserole or stir fry. Thanks for being encouraging.

How wonderful that your family are eating mostly plants! You are setting them up for a healthful life. I really should start making my own kombucha as buying it definitely makes an impact on my budget. I'm trying to use up everything in my pantry because I have such a habit of collecting food and forgetting it's there. Also really working towards zero wasted food which is a challenge cooking for one but I am getting better each and every week. #imperfectprogress

Love hearing how people save money! So encouraging! We can relate with the cell phone bills- we live in MN and use iPhones on a go-phone plan. I pay $25 a month for unlimited text/call and have no data and then use wifi at home! I cloth diaper my kiddos and am thinking about using the reusable pads...I've been pregnant or nursing all but the first 2 weeks I've been married in the last almost 5 years and haven't experienced much need for them, but I suppose if I had them for when I need them that would be the way to go! 😉We buy used clothes and most everything else used as well to save money. Always looking for a good deal because I'm a quality over quantity girl! We are unable to have a garden/animals at this time (which is a big bummer to me) while we are renting a home...someday though! ☺️ Thanks for sharing! Your videos always encourage me right where I'm at!

What can I say am Mexican I I grew up on rice and beans. We would eat the fresh beans, And we would diced tomato diced onions diced cilantro and put it on the top of fresh beans from the pot, that is the most delicious thing you’ve ever tasted. we eat it with corn tortillas homemade. And we were very happy and thrilled. We didn’t have a lot of money but we were happy we didn’t even know we were poor. Love the Lord.

You can use the banana leaves for cooking. I am from 🇨🇴 Colombia Rinse banana leaf
. 1.Take the banana leaf and “quickly” place it over an open flame, to cure it. If you make rice. Take banana leaf under the rice pot lid . The steam from the rice will rise up to the banana leaf and give your rice a wonderful flavor.
    2. Wrap the cured banana leaves over chicken, pork, beef. It is super yummy.
    3. Freeze banana leaves .
    4. We place a small portion of cured banana leaf under our Colombia mass for tamales, then wrap in aluminum foil. google Colombian tamales. Good luck !

I think the two biggest things that save our family money are groceries and avoiding shopping. I shop in Aldi with a menu plan and shopping list in hand, and we cook mostly from scratch. It starts to all fall over at the end of the school terms, but still mostly our meals are at home. We also don't eat huge amounts of meat. The second things is that I just can't stand shopping. The older I get the more I hate it. I think a childhood as an MK in Papua New Guinea (we were also with MAF) has just given me a very different perspective on consumerism. Not shopping saves a ton and keeps me sane.

    • @JoyForney

I grew up as an MK and while I currently live in North America and am guilty of way too many luxuries, I do get bothered by the bazillion cereals to chose from and an endless variety that makes us less grateful and more demanding. Thank you for sharing the ways the Lord has shown you in saving money and living simply.
As for beans.....I cook up onion and garlic, adding cumin, coriander (fresh cilantro is preferable); paprika and garlic salt. I also add some chicken bullion for a richer flavor, pepper, salt if needed (bullion can be quite salty) and fresh lime juice. It's quite fun to be able to see how flavorful we can make ordinary beans taste!!! :) We are also very cautious about meat since it's so expensive. I try to make it stretch for a few meals, as well eat meatless options.

One of the biggest ways I have been able to save money is by renting an apartment right down the road from the hospital where I work. I can walk (when it's not rainy), but when I do drive it's only 54 seconds away and I have a grocery store about 90 seconds away the opposite direction. My only big driving is 45 minutes on the weekends out to Boring for church, so I've saved a bundle on gas and wear and tear on my car!

    • @JoyForney
      @JoyForney  Před 7 lety +1

Joy Forney Being within walking distance is great, especially when my car was in the shop for some repairs. I also get a free Trimet pass through Providence (where I work), so that alone saves $1100! Store apps also save with exclusive digital coupons. ;) And yes, my weekend drives are well worth it! Especially this last weekend... went to all 3 services as it was the last one he'll be preaching for a while. Made me cry, but I know good things are ahead for him and your mama. :) Love you much, Joy! Still looking forward to next summer! ❤️

Where I live in the states we can order a share from a meat CSA. It's not necessarily the least expensive meat, but it's local and good quality. Cooking at home saves a lot. Growing up, we worked as ushers for live performances. It's a good social experience and you see the shows for free!

Great video! We also hang our clothing out to dry, have chickens, and a garden. I'm trying to convince my husband we need a goat but I was thinking more for a pet than for meat. 😂 Our local grocery store lets you order online and pick up at the back. I've been doing that as it keeps me only buying what I need and I can keep under budget because it has the total on the screen.

Joy! You are an amazing woman of God and I'm so encouraged to see you embracing and loving your mama role - it's such an encouragement to me, since I struggle with feeling valuable in that role at this time in my life (my one little guy is only two). As for fun, he and I often do worship time with singing and dancing (he loves to dance)! I talked to your dad and he said go do this too. I would love to see a video of your family doing this as it's an amazing foundation to lay into your kids to have a heart of heart-full worship, even from a young age. On a more personal note- have you ever considered a reusable menstrual cup? It's similar to a tampon but reusable and once you handle the finer points of using it it's such a blessing..it's like "what period?" (Thanks for letting me ask such a personal question) ❤️I love seing your videos - I know that if we were living in the same country we'd be good friends. Keep up the great work. Luv ya girl!

Thanks for sharing Joy! I would love to see a video where you share a week of your meals! I love the idea of having more meatless meals. I'm looking forward to seeing your video on rice and beans. Yum!
On another note, have you considered a menstrual cup (which is reusable for years!) as an alternative to tampons? I'd not know of their existence until a couple of years ago.

Hi Lorice! I forgot to mention in the video that I actually do have a menstrual cup {Diva cup} but for now am preferring the pads. But thank you for sharing! I think the week of meals is a great idea! I'm jotting that down. Thanks for being here and I love your name!

Christianity is a religion, just like any other religion. If it works for you, great! But spare the globe your arrogance. I've travelled to many 3rd world countries to enjoy their culture, not to try and change it. If you think you have all the answers (through Jesus or whomever) and you feel that you now have the authority to "correct" everyone who doesn't believe like you, then you are ARROGANT. One cannot simultaneously practice humility while travelling the globe pushing a missionaries agenda.
