He was on 10 years probation, with 1 year remaining...if he gets in trouble within that 10 years, his 5 year prison sentence that was being held off, gets reinstated on top of whatever time he gets for new charges. so he GONE!

Worse part is, he bragged about at the age of 28, his parents make food for him, he doesn't have to pay rent or bills, he doesn't have to work. This dude won the "life" lottery, but it wasn't enough. Felony drug charges rarely give big sentences. I used to work with a dude who got arrested for felony crack possession....9 times. He will just pay a fine and probably get probation.
It different when drug charges are combined with assault. We aren't taking about the average joe caught with a crack rock during a random stop, Jack got high and while high and probably up for several days attacked his family. Not all drug users are violent but when they are, the state takes notice.

But probation is very hard to fulfill when you are an addict. Drug tests and counseling are usually mandatory. It's so much easier to just do the time and leave a free man.

All you need is a valid written certification from a licensed MMJ doctor in Virginia and your government-issued ID to buy medical marijuana from dispensaries in VA.
Weed isn't legal in any state if you are facing charges alteady, it is still illegal on a federal level and will send you back to jail.
Obviously not what happened here.

While it is still illegal at the federal level, the feds aren't messing with the states. Otherwise the DEA would put every dispensary out of business.

Schedule I drugs have a high potential for abuse and no accepted medical use, and include heroin and LSD.
