    Snapon is definitely higher quality but definitely higher priced. Good job on the information, thanks.

    I was hunting far a new 1/4” flex, and tried Icon. I had to buy it as Harbor Freight has no display, and sealed up boxes. I knew the direction selector switch was pronounced, but it felt like loose mush when switching, the anvil was surprisingly loose, it would move at least 3/16” in and out of the head! Out of all my mid priced ratchets, the anvils would move maybe 1/32” in and out.Other then that, it seemed pretty nice with a stunning display box and a handy wiping cloth. I couldn’t wait to return it( and they gave me crap for cutting the seal !) I rarely come out ofHarbor Freight with anything Might as buy online, you can’t examine in the store. My 2cent.

    My 1/2" drive Deep Icon sockets had a "nick" on almost every socket: the body and edges of the socket. They were not very large, but probably mishandled before the heat treating process (?). Otherwise, they seemed to be fine.

    I like Icon i have several Icon tools but i don't think they're "professional" grade I'd say they're higher end homeowner grade but there's nothing wrong with that

    According to the Snap on website they charge $294 for 5-15mm. I just paid $23.99 with a coupon for my ICON sockets. Just bought a 1/4" flex head ICON ratchet for $27.99 and Snap on charges $118. Why is Billy Buttfuck going over this shit with a microscope? The prices are not even comparable. Compare it to a husky, Kobalt, craftsman....etc

      They advertise as being the same quality as Snap-on. That's why, genius.

    It’s interesting to see the “value engineering” that went into the Icon ratchet. I’d wager the handle and selector are bigger to make up for cheaper materials. The one piece paw likely puts more stress on the selector as well. Thanks for the comparison. It would be very difficult for me to willingly stop using a Snap-On ratchet. You are a stronger man than I.

    Truth be told, comparing Icon to Snap-On is like comparing Apples to oranges. ICON in my opinion is closer to Gearwrench or Carlyle and Tekton and possibly Milwaukee. I think HF compares the ICON line to snap-on because of marketing hype. ICON isn't terrible, great for a DYI or shade tree mechanic, machine operator or a guy starting out as a technician. I've seen other CZcamsrs experience premature wear with the sockets. I think Harbor Freight is stepping in the right direction, it takes years for a company to establish itself as a professional tool brand. As far as research and development and getting the metallurgy right they have a long ways to go.

    I'm finding my ICON sockets to be softer than my SNAP ONs.
    I don't see the ICONs lasting a lifetime like SNAP ON. ICON actually seems to be a lesser quality to my old American made CHRAFTSMAN sockets.
    But for about 10% of the cost, the ICON still wins I think.

    People that buy harbor freight don’t buy off tool trucks. I don’t get the comparison between harbor freight and snap on. Compare icon to husky and kobalt.

    • @MrSubaru1387
      @MrSubaru1387  Před 4 lety +4

      I compare ICON to Snap-on because HF is advertising themselves as professional, tool truck quality. They compare all their ICON tools to Snap-on in their advertising.

    I wonder if these are made by snap on, just a lower grade form as well lower cost for home owners. Ya know just like how blue point is a lower grade of snap on

    • @MrSubaru1387

    • @DonBMW
      @DonBMW Před 4 lety +1

      Same here with my icon 1/4 ratchet. That thing has a ton of backdrag out of the box. Tried super lube grease, which improved it. Then tried 3 in 1 oil and that made it worse. Going back to super lube grease to see if this improves.
