  • R3S 56340, this is a review of the half inch icon straight ratchet I can verify that it's the same as the other sizes and has a good and strong ratchet mechanism although the photo show at having the weaker Flex head mechanism and this is a quick review of it . .

Great film, Cat! I just can't bring myself to buy the ICON stuff, at least for now. I've watched numerous reviews on CZcams including yours and my "wanter" gets flared up. Then I get to the store, I look at the nice packaging, pick up the display items to hold and manipulate the tools and then I set them down and walk away. I just can't do it yet.

you are a smart guy by doing that bc its prices are super inflated as well and doesn't agree or reflects in any way the product 🈴🈵🈲

@@rubbermallet3873 I think you're spot on there. I don't think the ICON is as comparable to the Snap-on as HF is wanting to make it out to be. Maybe Gearwrench, but definitely better than the new Craftsman. Little details make the difference and Cat is good and pointing out those little details that only make the "Professional" label on ICON exactly that; just a label. I think the Carlyle tools at NAPA are as close as one can get to the tool trucks without the higher prices and having the added convenience of being able to go to the store or have a replacement brought to you when needed.

@@davidkierzkowski I would say though I have purchased some items at HF I don't regret. My favorite has been the 1/2" Earthquake XT air impact. The warranty has expired now and I haven't sprung the funds to buy a warranty extension yet. I just reckoned that when it quits working I'll buy an Ingersoll-Rand or something more comparable this time. I do like the Carlyle and the new Matco 1/2" air impacts.

I personally NEVER work on my vehicles without hand protection so the squared ends on any ratchet is not an issue. I care about my knuckles.

Rebuilding in house means your possibly buying a “new” ratchet that someone else already gave a hot supper. Awesome. I hope their gonna sell them separately, or use to “swap” when customers need a warranty.

I’m a mechanic and use my 1/2 flex head daily even put cheater bars on it before. No problems here.
And if it’s not a flex head design I would not buy. Too many advantages to the flex head. Hell I don’t even know if any of the other techs own none flex head ratchets.

  • @narcissistinjurygiver2932

i had to upgrade to an icon flex when they did not have a repl for my pittsburgh pro. this icon is terrible. if there is any lateral force on the ratchet like when you have an extension on it, it grinds and is not smooth at all. even after lubing it. so i warrantied it thinking i got a bad one and the replacement is just as bad!
