Not a fan of Icon ratchets. I bought the 1/2 inch drive long handle flex head and during the first use the comfort grip slipped off. The Icon 3 jaw puller on the other hand is one of best I've ever used
I still cant belive Jeff is giving away those SK wrenches... did not see that coming.... i have been hearing they sell them at Lowes, i went to Lowes and there was not one SK tool there....
Yea ive been promoting the SK give away alot!! its a nice give away, and i figure lots of subscribers dont watch every video,so i like to make sure they see them, its good for the channel and good for the subscribers!! thanks my friend!!
“Top ‘o the mornin’, Jeff! Thanks for all you do and another great video! I’m not an owner of anything “ICON” yet, with one exception: their beloved bit kit. Love that one. Not a fan of ratchets with higher back drag. That direction lever looks like an afterthought.
Yes they do have a good amount of backdrag, nowhere nears a koken!!! the reverse lever sticks up more than i like to see,as you mentioned!! after i get all these flex-head series done, ill do a recount on my ratchets!! some of the ones i review ill give away though!!
Keep up the good work! I don't have very many 1/4 ratchets and am looking into getting a few more. Now before I get some all I have to do is watch your channel before I buy. Thanks!
@@jefftovani5535 Ironically I just got an email regarding 3/8 Quinn ratchet I just recently got. Apparently some of them had some sort of issue with the gear. So might need to return. Letter said the ones out for sale now are not affected however my store doesn’t have any…
Very nice. I have the Pittsburg Pro version of this ratchet and it works great. I have about 10 different PP Ratchets and have not had a problem with any of them. Also, they have a lifetime warranty which is amazing for their price.
Looks like the 1/4" ICON has a bit more backdrag than the new 1/4" Gearwrench you reviewed earlier. In 1/4" ratchets this is one feature I place a higher degree of importance on than when looking at a 3/8" or 1/2". Very appreciative for you doing this video series. Thanks Jeff.
I like both the Quinn & ICON. I just grabbed the newer Quinn in 1/4 with the soft grip and it’s seems to be pretty decent for$19. It feels better in the hand 🤚 than the ICON for sure. Thanks for the video. 👍
Just bought the very same ratchet a couple of months ago, and I have no complaints. It seems to be a well-built little ratchet. I like the comfort grip and sealed head, myself. There is hardly and movement, or play, in the anvil where the head hinges. That's the first thing I check when I pick one up. I've had the 1/2in dr, long handle version for a couple of years now, and I've been happy with it as well. Icon and Capri are my go-to brands currently.
My icon flex head comfort grip is my daily driver 1/4" ratchet, it does it's job, its comfortable, and works for me. It was supposed to be replaced by matcos but my dealer got out of the business and his pre-rders were canceled on him
When I buy my tools they speak to me I get super excited I'm like the kid in the candy store and this icon just doesn't do it for me if I see one at a yard sale I might pick it up but besides that I don't think so but it was a very good video you put out for us appreciate you have a great day be safe
Thanks my friend!! i got your coffee cup today!!!! i love the logo, you did a fantastic job designing it!!!! ill put a real nice shoutout in tommorows video with your coffee cup, make sure you dont miss it!!! stay tuned!!
At first look the Icon appears to be a great ratchet. I really like the firm feel of the Icon comfort grip. I'm not a fan of the spongy feel of the Snap on grip. Red is my favorite color. I'm not a fan of the packaging that Harbor Freight chose for the Icon ratchets. I like to "test drive" ratchets. The Pittsburgh can be tested for feel before you purchase. If there are five ratchets on the rack, I'll test the action of them all and buy the one that feels best. That isn't possible with the Icons due to them being boxed up. With the Icon you get the luck of the draw. The Pittsburgh ratchets have a good feel to both the handle and ratcheting action. I wasn't impressed with the 3/8 flex head Icon version I purchased. Hopefully Harbor Freight will expand the Quinn ratchet line to include flex head versions. In my opinion the Pittsburgh and Quinn ratchets offer the best bang for the buck.
Great feedback my friend, these grips are firm, nothing like snap on!! the backdrag, is average!! lube might help, dont know yet!! the quinn needs to add a flex-head like you said!! will see!!!
Interesting thought that just hit me; I only have one comfort grip ratchet. Not sure why really. My Wera Roto Head is the only one. I haven't missed having one, but maybe I should give it a try
I have several Icon ratchets, and at least three with the 'comfort handle' - overall I like it. It does take on a tone once exposed to brake dust/etc. (I'm a guy who keeps my stuff clean), but nothing too bad. Definitely easy to grip when things are slick. I'm not sure what's wrong with me, but I haven't ever really been inspired by any of the GW ratchets. I wonder occasionally if I should give them another try...
I really like the icon 1/4" 90 tooth roto head ratchet. Very smooth and very light back drag. Especially for a roto head. I'm not really a fan of the icon ratchets though. I think for the cost, there are better options out there.
Well i will say your rite about options,i can vouce for that,i have enough ratchets for ,10 mechanics, lol!! havent tried the icon roto head, yet, lol!! thanks my friend for your feedback!!!!
The 3/8s icon ratchet is absolutely clutch, however the 1/4 keeps locking up on me. I get that 1/4 isn't for high loads but other 1/4 ratchets don't lock up on me
@@jefftovani5535 I think I actually found out what happened to it, the quarter inch is a different mechanism than the 3/8 or 1/2, but shares more in common with the 1/2, I put super lube grease in the 1/2 as it was bone dry. But there was a reason for the dryness and that was because the pawl sticks to the gear with the grease one and caused it to lock. Changed the grease to transmission fluid and it works dandy, the same thing probably happened to the 1/4
I always thought those were the coolest looking wrenches!!
Yes i would agree, the SK ,X-FRAME are neat looking!! thanks nick again for checking in!!!
I like the quinn over the icon ratchet.... smaller, cheaper, smoother, nicer in hand, & better (GW) design!
You know don i cant argue with that, that quinn has less backdrag and half the price!!
I'm looking forward to when Quinn releases the flexhead in the new version. I've heard it's coming.

Just bought a craftsman V series 1/4 long handle ratchet. Haven't used it yet, but was a super good deal maybe $15. Couldn't pass up.
That is a good buy my friend, let me know how you like it after use!!!
@jefftovani5535 yes sir, soon as it warms up a bit. Hah.
I have a 1/4” icon and you could start a Harley with the excessive back drag.
Thanks richard for joining in!!you probably could start s Harley, lol!!
Damn I love this channel
I accidentally stumbled across this channel last week
Glad you like my friend,i have lots of goodies coming, stay tuned!!!
Yeah, this channel great!...lots of tool heads chattin' it up.

Hit and miss,i bought brand new usa ratchets that were grap the first time i used them!!! thanks for the feedback my friend, keep it coming!!!
Gearwrench 120 xp locking flex head is the best 1/4. Less back drag than koken
Gearwrench xp 120 locking is a solid choise,no doubt, stay tuned!!

I expect back drag on a new ratchet now if its been used for few months the back drag should be better.
Agree,i have a 3/8 drive that i used for 7 months and its still a little stiff!! hope all is well!!!
I thought you owned the new locking flex head 120XP in 1/4 and 3/8…
