    Just stumbled across your channel. Ive been into powerlifting my whole life. I Got diagnosed with Crohns at 15 (27 now) and had some rough ass surgeries but, never gave up. Hit PRs last year with a 405 Squat / 525 DL. BIGGEST downside of this damn bag, Belts absolutely destroy it after a heavy session. I really wish there was a company that would make a damn belt that would work around the stoma but, still provide support.

      Thats awesome! Well done dude. Tbh my belts go above my stoma so it doesnt mess it up too bad. However I cant have the belt super tight it just feels wrong. I just did a comp this weekend and hit a 451 squat and DL. Bench was 286

    I've had my ileostomy for 25 years now and this is one the few videos I've seen that offer relevant advice. Keep up the good work.

      Thank you I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. 25 years is a long time, do you have any tips that might help another viewer? Also for me it’s been 13 years and my question would be how is your skin under the bag after so long?

    I know this video was a while ago, but I'm so glad I stumbled upon it. And I hope you're still monitoring comments, or if someone else in the ostomy world would be able to answer my question. I think it's amazing that you're still lifting, as I've been worried about hernias...I'm an x ray tech in hospital and have to do a lot of heavy lifting, pushing and pulling, and I will be getting set up for an ileostomy soon. What is a good type of low profile belt for hernia protection? I need something low profile to not be noticeable under scrubs. Also, any other tips for not getting a hernia? I enjoy working out for muscle maintenance and health as well, not nearly as heavy as you but still I lift weights, run, swim, bike, hike etc. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences!

    Thank you very much for this video. I've been diagnosed with complicated diverticulitis and am going to be having an Ileum ostomy soon to let the colon heal. I'm terrified and feel very defeated. Your video has offered different perspective and makes it seem much more manageable.

      Good luck and I’m glad this video helped. The online community for Ostomys on Instagram is really positive. I would use that to help with feeling alone as there are 1000s of us online who talk and share their lives with a bag

    On protein diets, check out the blue zone research, they've found that high carb diets are healthier than high protein which they found increases the risk of cancer and heart disease. This has also been found with studies done in the fitness sector. But because they make so much money from protein rich products it's not often talked about.

    • @JosephGreenly
      @JosephGreenly  Před 3 lety +1

      Are those studies based on protein and fat being the main source of energy. So the carnivore diet vs high carb? Because I would see why that would be more harmful. However what I suggest in the video is to have more protein but not to have it be your main source of energy. There a lots of studies showing that people can have a high protein diet with no effects on the kidneys and liver. Where you get that protein and how much of it is red meat, but also if there are fats as well. So my suggest in this video is to add more protein to your diet but in a balanced way. So get it from multiple sources, like diary, beans, meat and fish. I don’t think the average ostomate needs a high protein diet but having a bit more could really help with feeling full, better recovery and also improved output.

      @@JosephGreenly it's a study carried out on the oldest living populations where the majority of the population live in to their 100s. Research has been running for decades and isn't set out to prove one thing or another but to observe the common aspects of populations that have contributed to extended life. Diet was outstanding as the link between the global sample. There's recently been coverage on the study with Netflix's Down To Earth with Zac Effron. The series also covered the topic of water quality which is also a closely guarded secret that water producers would rather not have in mainstream media!
