I think my methodology would be to form an approximation of a square using the pieces, then rotate the square to see if any of the resulting 4 configurations left a single color uncovered. The, flip the pieces over and repeat the rotation process. Solving the square packing puzzle part first without consideration of the colored pieces then yields 8 possible solutions that can subsequently be overlaid on the board to be checked for validity. This way, you spend less time being distracted by the coloring, discarding bad solutions, and thereby reducing some of the trial and error caused by starting over when a simple rotation, mirror, or combination may have worked.
Very interesting looking puzzle! I think the main problem is that the rule "one color must stay uncovered" is hard to visualize on the board - I would suggest either using sticky tape to cover the blocking squares, or draw up a clean board on a piece of paper with the blocking squares marked in black. The transparent pieces look very neat, but I think that they allow the other colors to be visible really confuses the eyes after a while.
I agree. The pieces should really be translucent or something.
I feel like the whole thing is deliberately visually abstruse. Metallic cylinders make it difficult to disambiguate and group the colors, especially with the horizontal and vertical pieces catching the light differently. Perhaps this lighting is an extreme case, but from this video I don't think I can even identify all of the sets, and I am an artist with full color vision. Obviously the puzzle itself is hard enough, and there's no reason it couldn't use symbols instead.

This is a beautiful puzzle! Add on the fact that it has many solutions unlike most other puzzles where if you solve it once, it's basically a decoration afterwards, this is truly amazing. And I'm not surprised that this comes out of Germany 😄
The way I’d try and solve this puzzle is creating the square frame first (seems like fitment is harder than color correspondence) then rotate the square over the colors until it either matches or until I feel as if I need to make another square

Knowing that at least one solution exists no matter which color is chosen is useful.
I’d probably try to rank the shapes for fitability and place the least fitable pieces first.
When a dead end is reached, back up and try a new position or rotation for the last piece that fit until all are exhausted, then back up one more piece and repeat.
That’s probably approximately how the computer algorithm works.

Thank you for your videos! This puzzle seems to tick all the boxes - challenging but replace with multiple solutions for most colors, and looks great. Also nice that we can watch the video but still find out own solution.
I thought this looked familiar, there is a similar puzzle named "alea lacta est" that uses the same board and pieces, each color is replaced by a number 1-6 or blank and you roll 6 dice and between the pieces and the dice you need to cover all but one blank space (the yellow are the blank spaces)
