    3D printings are becoming easier to use and capable of better results, so why not use them to create amazing projects. In this video, I showcase six hand selected projects primarily made with a 3D printer. I advise on how hard they are to print, assembly difficulty, hardware required and educational value.
    All of these projects were worthwhile and satisfying, so thank you to the creators who released them free of charge. Also, a big thanks to my kids for their help, especially my daughter, who has all the hallmarks of a budding maker.

    The last two - but especially James Bruxton's, in my opinion - are also teaching some very valuable core skills: general problem solving and extrapolating from incomplete instructions. These skills might be so fundemental to you that you didn't even realise it, but anyone who sets out to recreate any of James' projects is going to have to fill in some blanks for themselves. That's not meant as a criticism, but rather to highlight how those projects can be very useful for developing skills a person will use every day at work or school.

    You should add a few capacitors to that hand crank. That way, the power doesn't fluctuate that much and you will have a better experience with your emergency charger (Li-Ion batteries prefer constant voltage and constant current).

    • @TeachingTech
      @TeachingTech  Před 4 měsíci

      I only mentioned it briefly but I did include some as per the original build instructions. I found the measured voltage was significant higher after adding them. I figured the fluctuations were like PWM without them.

      @@stevenborg2477 just a inland black pla, my fit with the triangular part in the bottom wasn't good, so I had to make it a little bigger with a Dremel. Then lube is also pretty essential, the first little bit it took a lot of torque to get it spinning.

  • @leetpg
    @leetpg Před 8 dny

    Tried my best with the Toroidal Launcher, about 4 - 7 part reprints, just can't get it to spin freely. I run Ender 3 printers and they print quite well. First layers are good, not printing too fast, its just a touch too tight when its all in the housing.

    @TeachingTech Regarding the poseable figure, you mentioned using PET-G or ABS. Just curious if you have tried PLA+ (PLA Pro) which is more resilient and durable for mechanical items like this? 🤔

    • @carlperkins1812
      @carlperkins1812 Před 4 měsíci +2

      Ive used Sunlu PLA+ only yesterday and its fine. The trick with Dummy13 is you MUST calibrate e steps and flow and use the Outer/Inner option under wall settings. These things are key for precision prints and this just wont fit without them. Just about the print the Deadpool accesory kit.

    • @TeachingTech
      @TeachingTech  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I'm interesting in adapting a gravity 'driver'. Wind up cord, let it fall very slowly, geared to spin the generator fast.

    • @DKFX1
      @DKFX1 Před 4 měsíci

      @@TeachingTech From a few quick calculations, such energy quantity would be almost negligible, unless your object is absolutely massive. You'd need a mass of about 1 ton dropped from condsiderable height to outperform handcranking for 1 hour in terms of watt hours produced, but it would be interesting to see nonetheless.

    8:05 For the most material combinations that include plastic, silicone oil, or silicone grease (most time better if you can bring it in) will be the lubricant of choice. Normal oil is not good in lubing plastic. Sometimes it make it even worse. Every material combination has its own lubricants. For example wood. Try to use oil on wood. It will be much worse than without and it will start squeaking. For wood, hard wax is the way to go.

    Very nice video. Quick question - do you happen to know which grade of magnets you used for the hand crank generator? I have been planning to build it, and I was just wondering which grade of magnets were used to get the voltages you measured since I am not planning on putting all 8 coils in series like you did, and I want to make sure I will still get a sufficient voltage. Thanks in advance!

    • @TeachingTech
      @TeachingTech  Před 4 měsíci

      They were man to be N52 as recommended by Tom, however they were cheap eBay ones rather than from a reputable magnet supplier. I have no way of measuring the strength, but I know the dimensions were off compared to Tom's video. Mine needed to be glued in whereas Tom's were a nice press fit.
