- We travel back to the early ’80s, where a pre-"Jeopardy!" Alex Trebek meets a pre-"Seinfeld" Jerry Seinfeld and a host of other Hollywood characters on BATTLESTARS, the Star Wars-inspired celebrity quiz that audiences simply did not care for, thank you very much.

Some of my earliest memories of watching TV included seeing this show during its brief run on NBC. Would never expect that one could glean so much from Battlestars - another fantastic analysis, John!

In the late 90s, Pat Sajak and Alex Trebek switched shows on April Fools Day. Without knocking Pat, Alex fit in so smoothly on Wheel, more so than Pat on Jeopardy! Alex hosted Classic Concentration, To Tell the Truth, and Jeopardy! at the same time, with three different rhythms, all executed flawlessly. I believe his range makes him the best host, ever.
We don’t deserve your content. Always a treat and so well put together.

I don’t know what yr planning to do but I think it would be fun to see more deep dives into classic game shows.
This vid reminded me about High Rollers which (along with Match Game) was one of my fave daytime shows when I was a single-digit kid. Very evocative of childhood memories, makes me wish I had someone like you to talk tv analysis with at that age (I was curious about how that stuff was produced, but none of my friends or fam were).

First season of Jeopardy sort of had a space theme too, with the globe swoosh, the set looked spaced age, The daily double sound and round over sound were very different early on and sounded like space sound effects
Very interesting, thanks. I am compelled to comment that I enjoyed Art Fleming's hosting of Jeopardy the most by far. And the show was more engaging in those early years without all the flash and jibberjabber. OK, fire at will.

As a kid growing up on "Jeopardy!" I never knew where Alex Trebek came from but assumed he was a genius who knew all the answers. It's only after watching old episodes of "Classic Concentration" that I realized he was goddamn Burt Reynolds.
He hosted some clunkers, too. This isn't even close to the worst. Wink Martindale, himself a pro's pro, has collected a few of them. Alex almost saved most of them. Almost.

makes me wonder if the ill-fated Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour would've fared better with Alex instead of the execrable Jon Bauman 🤣 and seeing Alex Trebek with Gene Rayburn would've been....interesting
One thing about Alex Trebek: He was NEVER the star of the show. He believed the contestants should be the stars, and he a simple Master of Ceremonies.
I think the early years of jeopardy were space themed. Swoosh at the beginning and the globe logo. Computer sounding sound effects

I used to watch episodes of Double Dare on Buzzr. Such a confusing and overly complicated game. Pitfall was ok.

Battlestars came from the same company which produced Hollywood Squares. Battlestars was more of a spinoff then a ripoff of Hollywood Squares. RIP Alex Trebek.
