DISCOVERY 3 / LR3: Radio volume not working, silent or broken? This Land Rover hack costs nothing!

  • Use the hard reset process on the Land Rover Discovery 3 / LR3 to reset the radio and solve a common 'no sound' issue. It may also work to bring back to life a dead Infotainment Sat Nav Satellite Navigation screen. I suffered a radio that was turning on but the volume control was not responding, so I had no sound coming out of the speakers. Before you spend money replacing any of the head unit, amp or other parts, think about trying this hard reset procedure. It worked for me!
    NOTE: PAY ATTENTION - NEVER CONNECT THE BATTERY TERMINALS TOGETHER ! HIGH RISK OF INJURY AND DAMAGE. DO NOT UNDERTAKE THIS IF YOU ARE NOT CONFIDENT IN YOUR ACTIONS.
    WATCH OUT IF YOU HAVE A SECONDARY BATTERY IN YOUR CAR, AND ALSO PROBABLY NOT WORTH TRYING THIS WITH A CAR THAT HAS STOP/START TECHNOLOGY (DISCO 4 / LR4 FROM 2014 ONWARDS FOR EXAMPLE). STOP/START SYSTEMS MAY HAVE SECONDARY BATTERY STORAGE.

    What are your thoughts?

    • @WeekendWarrior-Official
      @WeekendWarrior-Official  Před 4 lety +1

      That's a really tough issue, I am not sure what that could be. If the hard reset does not work you will need to work through each part in turn. If I had to guess I would suggest a cable connection fault as it is intermittent, or failing that an amplifier issue. If you have a pal with a D3 then you might be able to swap parts to see which one is at fault. Best of luck.

    Didn't work for me, unfortunately. My 2006 Disco 3/LR3 radio has been getting increasingly worse. The only symptom is no volume. All the other radio controls work. I didn't have any volume for months, then a couple of weeks ago it was working until I shut it down. Then, back to no volume.
    My Rover mechanic has fixed dozens of these and he thinks it's the amp. Other people have said it's likely the wiring harness. Others say the head unit. At 180K miles and having other issues with this truck, I'm not sure it's worth much investment in the radio. Is there any reliable way to diagnose where the issue is? It seems like a meter could tell me if they amp has any output easily enough.

    Hey, great video. Glad i found it as I've been having this issue for a few months now.
    But... RIGHT after I do the reset, the radio works when I check it. But then the next time i get in the car, it does not work. I could wait 10mins or 1min, the second key on after reset I'm back to the same issue. Do you know if something else is going on? I've made sure to let the car sit for a long time (30mins) with the battery unplugged to let all residual current drain, and also have the + and - connected for at least 30mins as well.

    Two positive jump terminals? So, each end positive end of jumper cables? While the negatives just 'hang'?

    • @WeekendWarrior-Official
      @WeekendWarrior-Official  Před 4 lety +3

      Good morning Team Falcon.
      What I am doing is connecting together the vehicle's battery connector leads. I've used a jump lead for ease, it would not have mattered wether I had used the red or black one.
      I am not sure that I understand your question. There are no positive (or negative) ends on the jumper cables - they are just a cable. I used a single jumper cable for ease but I could have used anything conductive. The goal was to connect together the car's main feed cables, a single jumper cable makes this easy.
      I know I say it a few times in the video, but again to be sure - do NOT connect the battery terminals together as this may cause major damage to the vehicle and result in serious injury. Once I disconnected the battery I did not touch it again until I was ready to reconnect it all back together again at the end.

    • @andyrichardson6188
      @andyrichardson6188 Před 2 lety +1

      You are trying to connect the terminals together. You don't need jumper cables. You could use some other single wire to connect them together. Using jumper cables is just a convenient way to do it.
