- Hey Guys!
Welcome back to another episode of Missflips! In today’s episode, I am participating in the ugly duckling challenge hosted by Cory over at Desert DIY. In this challenge, we have to find an ugly piece of furniture and turn it into something beautiful. However, because it is the season of giving, we also are encouraged to donate our earnings or the piece itself to someone in need.
Since this is a commissioned piece, I will be donating my earnings to my local community here in Atlanta.
Thank you so much for watching and I hope you enjoyed this video!
As usual, stay flippin!

Marissa your patience on your pieces is SO admirable. Your attention to detail and designs are phenomenal and I love that you work hard to try to use less toxic and more environmentally friendly products. This desk is I phenomenal! Thank you for participating
Thank you so much lovely!
Very nice. Perfect color to keep the desk industrial looking and a touch of mahogony with new pulls to bring some sophistication. Nice job.
Agreed. Thank you!
Nice! Not my colors of choice, but that’s irrelevant. That desk is strong as an Army tank! Lasts forever! Beautiful work!
Thank you :)) it really is haha so sturdy!!
I have this same desk !!!!
When we bought more than 15 years ago we were told it was a lawyers desk from Chicago.
Oh wow! That’s cool!
Without the natural wood left on this big desk, it would have looked a little bland. Just the right move, and the end result is an upscaled looking desk you pass on to your kids as a keeper. Bravo!
Thank you so much! Glad you approve!
@@TheMissFlips Please know, you don't need my or anyone elses "approval". The only opinion that counts is your own. If you are happy with your work, that's wnat matters most. You know you done good on this one. lol
Beautiful work as always...and I think painting the edge of desk actually made the wood grain pop more..so pretty...merry Christmas and stay blessed and flipping 🥰👍🎄⛄
Haha thank you Debra! I agree!
Nice. Some ideas in this I can use on a desk myself...
Yay!! Glad to hear it!
Nice solution to cover the burn mark, happy holidays.
Thank you! Same to you!
can confirm how amazing a paint sprayer is. i needed to paint the interior/exterior of a commercial space i was renting, and the lowest quote i got was $1800 (for less than 500sqft) and i was still going to have to supply the paint. i bought a sprayer off of Amazon for $125 and did the whole thing myself. well worth the money.
Helll yeah! Love that!
I love this desk.
Same honestly haha thank you!
Nice. It will go well in a well lit environment.
I think so too :)
Beautiful!!!! Thanks so much for sharing! Merry Christmas and a happy new year!
Thank you!! Happy holidays ❤️❤️❤️
Came out nice! Gold pulls or knobs would have been fire though!
Yeah, very true. But the black goes better with my clients vision.
wonderful transformation. that border at the top adds something special...happy accidents! (and I know it wasn't your accident 😊)
Thank you!!
OMG Marissa. This is gorgeous!!! I think the border was smart and ended up being an amazing design detail. Love that you left the metal tag. Love it all❤️
Thank you so much LaVonne!
"BANG UP JOB"!!!! Your Client should be very PLEASED!!!! Side Note - That Gold number really STOOD OUT!!!! Personally, I think Gold Hardware would look AWESOME on that Desk too!!!!
Definitely! Didn’t go with my clients vibe though
It's beautiful
Thank you!
I like!
❤️
As usual GREAT JOB!
Thank you so much!
Beautiful.
🥰🥰🥰
I liked the way you were able to cover the burn thru and also keep the majority of the natural wood top. Well done. I may be borrowing that from you.
Haha it’s all yours to borrow! Thanks for watching!
You're just so darned talented Marissa! This turned out beautiful. Perfect add to her mood board inspired space! 😍
Thank you so much Jen! I appreciate you ❤️ happy holidays!
Nice save on the burned veneer. And great tip on using both green (more expensive) and blue tape when taping off. Beautiful transformation. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! 🥰
It’s beautiful 🤗
Thank you!!
You did a beautiful job, it looks fantastic, and hat a great idea staging with the leaves what a beautiful touch
Thank you so much!
Beautiful, but I would have changed out the feet for a sleek stance. Maybe something that matches the hardware. Or even cast iron swivels. The engraved serial number on the edge of the desk gives me an industrial vibe.
Yeah, originally we were going to change the legs but I talked my client out of it because we would have had to saw them off and I didn’t want to do that to such a beautiful desk
Great colour choice but I preferred the original handles. Thanks for showing us your work.
Thank you! Fair enough! My clients wanted to change em.
Wow, great tips and suggestions. Really nice rescue.
Thank you!!
Looks gr8 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you!!
Wow the desk top is the bombdiggity X2! Lovely job!
Thank you so much!
You had me at "reusable plastic bags" since I would've never thought of that. Seen way too many people using Saran Wrap...ugh! Honestly, the work involved and how it turned out is pretty inspiring. Looks fantastic! My favorite redo from this batch.
Thank you so much! Yeah plastic wrap drives me nuts! I’m happy I can inspire people to be more conscious of the products they use
@@TheMissFlips I just used them for a bureau I'm stripping and I shared this tip with someone else so thanks again!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
🥰
Now that is a great desk - absolutely love it 😊
Thank you very much!
Soooo good 😊
Thank you 😋
Love it!!! Happy Holidays :)
Thank you! Same to you!
It looks beautiful! I have found that if you sand wood above 180 grit that it will not accept stain well. So if you know you are going to sand I wouldn't go to a high grit. Have a Merry Christmas!
Yeah, I’ve experienced that too. But I think I’d rather have less luck staining than leaving behind the sanding squiggles
@MissFlips I understand no one wants to deal with those. I find that you don't go up more than 60 grit at a time you can avoid those lines. Like 80-120-180 should work. I enjoy your work very beautiful. Merry Christmas!
@@carlatolland8671 thank you very much!! Happy holidays!
doing the boarder stripe was a genius idea, but in the end it was also an amazing aesthetic choice. great job.
Thank you so much!!
This turned out amazing!
Thank you!!
Nice job, good video, too bad about the burn mark. Not crazy about the way the top turned out. But as long as the client was happy.
Thank you! To each their own!
I really like this flip. Very pretty color.
Thank you!
Oh wow Marissa this turned out beautiful! Amazing job as always! I love it❤️
Happy Holidays for you and your family ❤️❤️
Thank you love! Happy holidays!
Hey lady!!!! That wood grain is fantastic!! I love your solution to disguising the burn through mark!! I just love how it turned out!! Another flippin success by the miss flips! Merry flippin Christmas 🎄
Thank you so much!! Happy holidays! ❤️
Great work.
Thank you!
Wow what a beautiful job!!!!! Congratulations loved the video
Thank you so much!
Nice transformation. I like the color combo
Thank you!
Great idea on the top!!!
Thank you!!
Very nice!!
Thank you! Cheers!
This desk is massive! Truly a challenge and as always, you nailed it! Beautiful!
Haha right?? Thank you!
The desk was likely an executive desk. Possibly a government office since it has an inventory tag on it.
@@lindap9079 yeah, that’s what I was thinking
Really really nice flip! So sleek looking now. That really is a awesome large desk. Merry xmas, Dar
Haha right?? Thank you!
Somehow I have never heard of SmartStrip before! Definitely adding it to the “need to try” list. Amazing work! 💛
Yesssss!!!! Do it!!! It’s literally a life changer!
I love what you did with this desk. The two tone look is awesome and I think the border on top was a great idea. I have a desk very similar, with the long drawers that I refinished a few years ago. Mine did not turn out as nice as yours. Good job!
Aww haha thank you so much! You can always redo it if you don’t like it but I’m sure it’s way better than you think it is 🥰
so good babe!!
Thanks baby!
Easily fit 50 pair of socks in one of the drawers! Like your burn removal and I always enjoy watching you strip! Seriously tho , Smart Strip is a damn good product from what I've seen done by you using it! Great tip on paint straining and a tip for you. Next time you purchase tape get Frog tape...you'll be happy you did. As always, great video and another job well done Miss Flips !
Thank you so much! I honestly tried to get sponsored by frog tape but they didn’t bite. Gonna try again soon
Great job! Beautiful!
Thank you!
Love it. Merry Christmas! 🎄
Thank you! Same to you!
Nice work!
Thank you!
Nice job!
Thank you!
Wow. Nice mija
Thanks dad!! ❤️
Lovely... what do you buy to strain your paint? Is it all paint you need to strain?? Thank you💕
They have paint strainers at home depot and yea, typically all paint needs straining
@@TheMissFlips thank you so much.
would you be able to use canned spray paint? i’m trying to redo an antique desk and am doing something similar but cannot afford a paint sprayer
I mean, technically, yes. However, the amount of canned spray paint that you would need would not only be terrible for the environment but it would also probably be super expensive to the point where you might as well just buy a paint sprayer. There are some pretty affordable ones on Amazon. But if you can’t afford either, I completely understand and you’re probably better off going the old fashioned hand painted rout

Everything reminds me of him 😞
Of who??
😂😂😂😂Your
Lol what?
Too dark for finished pictures
Lol I completely agree but I didn’t have time to retake them :/ I have better pictures on Instagram
you didnt do a very good job on the previous holes that were there. perhaps a little more sanding.
I don’t know why but I always seem to have an indented ring where the old holes were and if I sanded anymore there’s be an indent circle
Any suggestions??
@@TheMissFlips i dont flip furniture only houses but ive seen all of the people in the community flips. i think what other people do is use the king of spackle that you can cover with stain. and the sand it flush. i dont know how to explain it and the product i mentioned may be the wrong thing. i dont really take notes but ive seen some products they use that i get to help me with my hobby. it could be also that you over sanded. i dont know the minutia cause i only see what you wanted me to.
@@spicynomad Fare enough. Thank for the thoughtful response!
@@TheMissFlips it didnt really cost me anything and im not an expert on such matters.
