2000 vw golf heater core replacement not the easiest thing in the world! But if I can do it, anybody can. When disconnecting AC be prepared for pressurized Freon to shoot out! Caught me off guard!
thank you very much, I would never found about the 4 hidden bolts behind the firewall by myself. I am replacing the heater core for my audi a3 2002 and its pretty the same unit.
Thanks man. I got all the way to removing the 4 bolts in the engine bay in just over 2.5 hours this morning. Everything came apart so easy following the writeup on vwvortex. The details were very lacking in the content you covered in your video. Good job!
Edward Russell Jr I do have a strong mechanical background and a good selection of tools. I can definitely see it taking a couple days. Going to pickup the new core now. Hopefully it's back together by dinner time
any trouble with the immobilizer after this adventure? Just did this, video definitely helped! Now the immobilizer light just keeps blinking though.. haven't gotten it to shut off.
I wish I was handy enough to do this. I got a 2000 Jetta back in 2017 and the heater core was the first thing I had to fix. Pretty sure the guy who sold it to me knew because I found about 7-10 scented trees in the car under the car seats about a month or two after I bought it... $1200CAD to fix. Found some guy to do it out of his back yard for $750, and I wish I didn't. Pretty sure he just put another crappy one in there because on 0-2 air setting it still smells like coolant. Can't be bothered to take it to an actual mechanic and get it fixed again, so I just have to blast the heat on 3 or 4 or suffer in the cold.
Hey how’s it Going Edward great video man! And really helpful I appreciate the help, I did have one question did you find any difficulty draining the AC?
Edward Russell Jr No worries Brother I appreciate the Fast reply, I also thought about doing the same thing, I just felt like I needed confirmation from someone else hahaha Awesome thank you man
If you are referring to the ac box on the engine side of the firewall, it is just unscrewing the lines that go into it. Other than that we did not remove an ac box. Hope that helps
Actually your video is good because you told me about the 10mm nuts that secure the heater box to the firewall. This will save me time ...
You just save my day!!
All the best for you!
A lot of video wack, only you tell about the 2 scroodrive in AC line 😮
Great video. I smelt antifreeze in my 2000 VW today so I think it's time. Thank you.
You have the best mk4 heater core instructional 👍👍

LMAO unfortunately no. Since I didn't know what the hell I was doing, once I loosened the AC line all the freon sprayed out! Had to refill afterwards.
Edward Russell Jr No worries Brother I appreciate the Fast reply, I also thought about doing the same thing, I just felt like I needed confirmation from someone else hahaha Awesome thank you man
Did you loose free-ons in the AC system when you disconnected the box
Yes. Just went down to auto store and grabbed a can of freon to recharge system.
How did you take that gold ac box off
If you are referring to the ac box on the engine side of the firewall, it is just unscrewing the lines that go into it. Other than that we did not remove an ac box. Hope that helps
How did everything turn out in the end?
Enzo herrera we got it all back together. Running good. Defrost n AC works fine.
Torx sockets. Freon is poisonous. You should have it properly recovered and recharged at the end
Did u take the whole bar out
Hector Duran no
Wow they probably charge People Ridiculous prices for the dealership Work. Most Everyone can do mechanic Work. Follow Instructions. God Love!!!
😳😳😳😳
you my friend should of just bypassed it since u live in Cali and don't need heat
Oooo we need heat now a days 😂😂😂 it's staying well under 50° f until around 10 am for me. Most of the time it's 35° f when I get to work
Why not of just flushed it
Ian Dewitt the heat core was leaking.
