2000 vw golf heater core replacement not the easiest thing in the world! But if I can do it, anybody can. When disconnecting AC be prepared for pressurized Freon to shoot out! Caught me off guard!

any trouble with the immobilizer after this adventure? Just did this, video definitely helped! Now the immobilizer light just keeps blinking though.. haven't gotten it to shut off.

I wish I was handy enough to do this. I got a 2000 Jetta back in 2017 and the heater core was the first thing I had to fix. Pretty sure the guy who sold it to me knew because I found about 7-10 scented trees in the car under the car seats about a month or two after I bought it... $1200CAD to fix. Found some guy to do it out of his back yard for $750, and I wish I didn't. Pretty sure he just put another crappy one in there because on 0-2 air setting it still smells like coolant. Can't be bothered to take it to an actual mechanic and get it fixed again, so I just have to blast the heat on 3 or 4 or suffer in the cold.

Torx sockets. Freon is poisonous. You should have it properly recovered and recharged at the end
Did you loose free-ons in the AC system when you disconnected the box
Yes. Just went down to auto store and grabbed a can of freon to recharge system.

LMAO unfortunately no. Since I didn't know what the hell I was doing, once I loosened the AC line all the freon sprayed out! Had to refill afterwards.

How did you take that gold ac box off
If you are referring to the ac box on the engine side of the firewall, it is just unscrewing the lines that go into it. Other than that we did not remove an ac box. Hope that helps

Edward Russell Jr I do have a strong mechanical background and a good selection of tools. I can definitely see it taking a couple days. Going to pickup the new core now. Hopefully it's back together by dinner time

Oooo we need heat now a days 😂😂😂 it's staying well under 50° f until around 10 am for me. Most of the time it's 35° f when I get to work
thank you very much, I would never found about the 4 hidden bolts behind the firewall by myself. I am replacing the heater core for my audi a3 2002 and its pretty the same unit.
