    Great video! I never knew about that S.I website.

    I might add for any new collectors that if they have valuable issues that after they bag and board them, put them in rigid topholders (unless you're gonna send them for grading right away). Put my collection away like that years ago and have never had to worry about them getting bent etc. Great info Brad, keep up the good work!!!

    So I'm getting into cleaning! Bought Absorine, soot sponge, Mr Clean erasers, 3 different kinds of erasers, round makeup remover pads, and that document cleaning pad (the little bag that micro eraser particles fall out of) and been practing on old/crappy issues. WOW do I like that document cleaning pad! If I have time tonight, I might try cleaning my '56 Mantle newsstand centerfold variant! Talk about a nail biter!!! I can't even imagine doing your first wet cleaning on an issue like that. It'd probably be best to let somebody else do it the way Dr's don't operate on their own family members.

      Nice job! It's a big step to get into cleaning, but well worth it for anyone who plans go submit magazines to CGC.

    I left you a comment about a month ago with this same exact situation. I asked you about bulk pricing and was disappointed with your estimate. I did reach out to a couple of dealers and found that you were spot on for newsstands but much lower for subscriptions. Instead of selling for that low price. I decided to go through my 2,000 SI magazines again (and 500 Beckett and 100 Yankees Magazine) to cherry pick and sell them in small player lots locally or on eBay. I just started boarding and bagging them yesterday (Thank God I'm retired). Thanks for the video!

      Yes, cherry picking and actually taking the time to sort through each magazine individually is definitely the best way to get the biggest overall return. It just takes a lot of time and knowledge, and not everyone has both of those. I'm glad you were able to get that done!
      My bulk pricing can seem low at first, but I see people all the time asking prices for bundles of subscription issues and they just sit there without ever selling. The price in this video for subscription bulk is just a price for if you actually want to get them sold quickly and move on. If someone is patient and willing to wait months, or even years, they can probably get a higher return. But subscriptions are a dime a dozen and the pool of buyers willing to deal with such volume is pretty low unless the price is really good.
      Ultimately, I recommend people educate themselves and break their magazines into groups in order to get the most bang for your buck...exactly like you did.

    Man did shipping get expensive since I stopped collecting. I used to be able to buy a big box of SIs for not much at all, then cherry pick them and resell them in bulk for not much. Think we sold them media mail back in the day and I think maybe that's not available anymore? Wow was I lucky to have collected back in the day during cheap shipping, pre Ebay tax and a bunch of other Ebay tricks that I know aren't available anymore. Sorry I'm inundating you Brad, but I don't want to join a Facebook group yet and be a drag on everybody. I'm trying to get up to speed first. Steep learning curve but I'm getting there.

      @crawfordarmstrong Před měsícem +2

      You're correct about the media mail option. Any item including advertisements, i.e. comics & and magazines are not eligible for media mail. It might make it there most of the time, but occasionally, it'll get stopped and put into USPS postage jail for the receiver to pay the difference in cost. Plus, there's the added bonus that it was opened and inspected, adding a risk of unintended damage.

    • @gcxred4kat9
      @gcxred4kat9 Před měsícem

      @@crawfordarmstrong So is it just the fact you're sending it media mail trigger a potential inspection?I imagine they can inspect anything they want at anytime, but do you know if media mail gets a "surprise inspection" more often?

    • @crawfordarmstrong
      @crawfordarmstrong Před měsícem

      @@gcxred4kat9 I asked a friend that's a mail carrier if he knew. Take it with a grain of salt, since he's not one of the authorized individuals in a distribution center or post office than can open mail. But he said he doesn't think it's that often. Having said that, it's rumored that if they find somebody misusing media mail they'll flag the address for more "random" searches.

    I'm one of the collectors you're making this video for. You're putting out a lot of info so I'm gonna stop it and ask my questions as I'm watching. I heard you say in another video one time that there's a way for a person to check what a "Best offer accepted" went for. Ebay didn't have that back when I stopped collecting. How do you check that?

    • @sportsmags
      @sportsmags  Před měsícem

      Great question. I use 130point.com/sales/
      Paste the title of the listing in the search bar. It will tell you the sale price for any items that had a best offer accepted.

    Hey Brad, went to a huge card/comic store in Clearwater, Fl yesterday to get some supplies and they had 4 bins in the back of sports mags 3 for a $1. I'm transitioning into liquidating my collection but I've still got the bug and ended up picking up 20 earlyish mags. One was a Beckett Basketball Plus from '03 with LeBron on the cover in perfect condition. It's smaller than an SI, but about 1/4'' thick. Question, does CGC grade something that thick and do you think being LeBron, '03 and perfect condition it would be worth grading? Love the odd ball stuff and picked up 2 '81 triple A Pawtucket Red Sox programs with minor leaguer Wade Boggs inside and a triple A All Star Game program, perfect condition, from '92 with Pedro Martinez and others inside. Funny, the elderly owner saw what I was into, went in back and came out with a stack of books to see if I was interested. I wasn't, but one of the books was Stan Musial and made me think of you

    • @sportsmags
      @sportsmags  Před měsícem +1

      CGC will grade any magazines within these dimensions: 11-1/2” tall x 8-7/8” wide x 1/2” thick.
      If the LeBron looks mint and has a shot at 9.8 then I'd say yes, worth grading.

    my dad has a subscription catalog from the 80’s - early 2000’s. All of them.
    I think they are going to be thrown away unfortunately. We simply don’t have time to go through them and sell them. I just really wish i could sell them all to someone.

    • @sportsmags
      @sportsmags  Před 12 dny +1

      I would recommend listing all of them as a lot on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or somewhere local. You will be able to at least get some money for the whole collection. Probably in the range of $250-$750

      @@sportsmags this is what i think i’ll do. Really appreciate the recommendation. They aren’t in top tier shape. Hoping i can get like $200 off of them. If no body is interested i’ve been thinking about grouping them by player / city and hoping i can get something there. Just have so much to go through.
