Google has become a monopoly today but it is a good idea to know how they tried to monetize thru various strategies.
Page rank and their algorithm to bring our site onto first page is something we Indians should find out. China has its own search engine. It would be nice if India develops one that suits our ecosystem especially for research and publication.
Scopus and web of science kind of database belong to other countries. Govt can take initiative to indianize our database that suits our leadership styles.
Monetizing thru advertisement is the master piece that Google struck or else they would have struggled more. I remember growing up with these platforms and Yahoo directory died, Sun platform went off due to Google. They could disburse the market goodwill and came up with sustainable products. That is the key. Grow with the trend and if business has that money power can become the market leader.
