    Fake MicroSD cards can be the cause of many headaches.
    Save games, and installed games can become unreadable, or even disappear if you don't perform this very important step.

    There are lots of things I love about this video, but in particular, I love that you sacrificed a perfectly nice bubble wrap envelope to recreate the feeling of getting an SD card in the mail.

      Hi Russ. Nice to see you here. I was thinking that it would be a great idea if you made a video shedding light on this issue. I came here to this video after following your recent 3ds videos after two of my brand new SD cards corrupted transferring roms onto them. They were Silicon Power 512gb SD cards from UMART, which is one of the largest computer businesses in Australia, and unfortunately they were fake. I'm sure a video on this subject would be extremely helpful and save your audience a lot of money and the idea seems in your wheelhouse. I was already aware of these bs fake chinese sd cards, but it's crazy that these fake sd cards have expanded beyond dodgy ebay and amazon listings and wormed there way into some brick and mortar heavily established businesses. I'm pretty tech savvy, so if I can be caught off guard with this issue, I'm sure a lot of other people would benefit from a PSA from you.
      Love your work dude, all the best.
      Thanks Team Pandory for the informative vid too. It's crazy that this issue is so rampant in online marketplaces. Vendors that sell this should be blacklisted from ebay and amazon. Cheers.

    I think mines fake. When I put games on it, it holds around 30gigs or so of data. But even though I can add more data up to 128g total ever file will show up corrupted. But when I reopen those files on my pc they work fine. So it transfers data but I can’t open files on my handheld gaming device.

    It says it Passed but my only reason for checking is because on eBay I bought a "Open Box" Samsung microSD card pro plus 512GB read/write 160/120. But the multiple speed tests I did on CrystalDiskMark showed read/write of 25/24. I don't know what I'm doing wrong?

    • @TeamPandory
      @TeamPandory  Před 4 měsíci

      This test checks that the microsd doesn't cheat the size of the card, which is the most common way of faking these cards. It may however, be fake (slower speeds)....
      ....
      ....... Or you could try another microsd reader / computer. That might be your issue. Readers can be finnicky

      If it failed one test and then passes the empty space test, it sounds like a card that is starting to fail or is simply unreliable.

      Not really. Probably habit having need this setting for the pg3d systems. It's kinda irrelevant

    • @owlesymp
      @owlesymp Před 11 měsíci

      Hmm actually it depends, if most of your items are small txt, voice, or pics that are less than 32kb, you could choose allocation unit size as small as possible to save more space in the microsd card. Of course, that will also slow down your card when recombining the files to read.
      Allocation unit size is to decide how big each pocket is in the card, so if u allocate bigger size to store small files, u lose out some space. For e.g. u want to store a 50kb jpg pic, if u allocate at 32kb, it will take 2 cells to store that pic, using 64kb of space, wasting 14kb and it takes 2 cells time to read back the pic to show u, so that takes up some additional time. If u allocate 128kb, it only takes 1 cell to store the pic but u wasted 78kb of space but it only takes up 1 cell time to read back.
      So see what u plan to store in the card, allocation affects the card's storage size and read speed. You can see the difference clearer when u see 2 types of size under files property in windows. The smaller size indicates the actual file size while the bigger size indicates how much size were used to store the files.

    I just got a 256gb samsung evo off ebay for ~$20, got it for my new ps vita, anyway it seemed to work fine until it got to like ~30gb capacity and it started giving errors, i downloaded samsung magician and it says the serial number is invalid and identifies it as a mass storage controller. I contacted the seller and showed them the screenshot and said I want all my money back or I will report them to ebay.

    I have bought multiple micro SD cards from Ebay over the years. I've never received any fakes as I carefully look for red flags on the card or packaging before purchasing.
    ALWAYS buy cards that have actual pictures in the listing. (Obviously not fool proof but helps to spot fakes.)
    A micro SD card has a high chance of being fake if you spot any of the following:
    - Print quality of card and / or packaging is somewhat off.
    - Letter font used is incorrect (Look for pictures of a genuine card to have a reference point.)
    - Price is too good.
    - Multiple buyers have left a seller negative feedback due to counterfeit cards.
    Wouldn't buy SD cards from Amazon given the slew of fakes in the market and the lack of pictures.
