    I've trained Aikido for about 5 years and just started Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. This is one of the first things you learn as a white belt in Aikido since it deals with primarily wrist grabs.

      James Merritt wwwhat? Kickboxing should be the foundation of ANYONES self defense. The last place you should wanna be in a street fight is on the ground or grapple and bjj encourages it? Bjj should be your last resort.

    • @josephus626
      @josephus626 Před 6 lety +10

      BJJ was street-tested before it became a worlwide thing through the UFC.

    • @PTK256
      @PTK256 Před 6 lety +15

      Well legendary navy seal Jocko Willink says the exact opposite. In his opinion bjj should be your foundation and the first martial art you learn because it allows you to get free from your opponents grasp and run. This is really good aginst multiple attackers If you are a small person kickboxing will do you no good against someone much bigger and stronger. They just grab you and you are done. BJJ also allows you to scale your self-defese. In kickboxing you can just kick or punch them but sometimes you can't do this because it is too much. With bjj you can get free and run, control your opponent, choke them out, break bones.

    Leverage absolutely works! I'm a 5'5" (5'6" on a good day) female and I do jiu jitsu. My dad thought he would be funny and try to spar with me. He is 6'4" 300+lb and his biceps are the size of my head, very muscular! I kept him at bay, controlled the distance, and was actually making him tired. I finally worked my way into submitting him. He was surprised and said he doesn't have to worry about me hahaha! So yeah leverage is key. Technique is key! Brute strength only takes you so far. Jiu jitsu is incredibly effective ladies. This martial art form will give you confidence and the feeling of control. The best way to get yourself out of a situation is training for it. That is all that jiu jitsu is. It replaces the victim mentality and the panic with knowledge and the ability to think in stressful situations. Go try it. It'll change your life.

    • @taestr7348
      @taestr7348 Před 6 lety +14

      You can tell when someone is trying or not. My dad is competitive and he was definitely trying hard. I'm not an idiot. If you train jiu jitsu you can feel when someone is giving effort. Also, how rude are you to reply that. You have no clue so, stop jumping to conclusions. You don't know everything Howard Stern. Jiu jitsu is about being humble and actions speak louder than words.

Get off the video if you're butt hurt.

      Tae Str
      I've rolled with several women and gotten arm-bar'd. I can reliably win, BUT that's because I also have been a white belt for a year. Months ago, though, I tried passing a girl's guard and got arm-bar'd in all of four seconds. I'm 6'0" and 184 pounds.
      So long as the larger person knows no grappling, the smaller person with technique can prevail in situations that they could not without it.

    • @jmsherry
      @jmsherry Před 6 lety +4

      Hi Tae, I'm sorry your comment became the thread for sad insecure men who can't even deal with the idea that a woman can hold her own against a man: They're clearly incels. Anyway, good going on the Jiu Jitsu! ;)

    • @Rujewitblood
      @Rujewitblood Před 5 lety +1

      Tae Str I know you think you know when someone is trying or not, but trust me a man never 'tries' all out against a girl, it doesn't happen, especially not a father against his daughter. I'm happy that you've got jiu jitsu to defend yourself, but you are seriously underestimating a mans strength compared to a woman, I doubt you've ever rolled with a man that put more than 40% strength, it probably feels like they are trying because they are that much stronger, I'm not saying this to be a male pig etc etc, it's just a fact and important to be realistic. You say he's 300lb+ 'very muscular' biceps size of your head, and you are 5'5, come on it's almost like you are trolling I'm 150lbs blue belt and I wouldn't want anything to do with your dad, and I've tapped some big guys
