- LET'S HELP THE SURVIVOR: If anyone has any contact with the woman who survived this assault, please notify Gracie University Headquarters (e-mail info@gracieuniversity.com). We would like to sponsor her to come to California to receive a full week of personal training with Eve and Rener at Gracie University Headquarters.
At 7:30pm on Wednesday, November 25, a woman who was jogging in East River Park near Jackson Avenue when a man accosted and dragged her by the hair into a nearby amphitheater.
Once there, he sexually assaulted her, stole her cell phone and credit cards, and took off on a bicycle. If you have any information about the suspect's whereabouts, please contact NYPD immediately.
In this special edition Gracie Breakdown, Eve and Rener Gracie discuss the incident, specifically how the hair-grab can be so challenging and debilitating during an assault. They also discuss how, with some principle-driven jiu-jitsu training, a woman can not only minimize the assailants effectiveness, but turn the tables and use the attacker's own grip to incapacitate him with a joint lock or a chokehold.

Doesn't matter how strong your bones are if 6 people wanna rape you. Just matters how fast you can run.
@DudeImJasmine Gracie fanboys are the worst lol...
Bro I learned that from Baki, kick to the balls, throat strikes, it’s all fair game
@COMBAT TRAINER you’re doing a very honorable service my friend
I'm a man, when I retired from the Army I grew out my hair. A big guy attacked me in a bar and I took him down and ended in the mount position. He immediately grab me by the hair. I was in shock, I had short hair for 26 years. It took a moment to gather myself. I ended up jamming fingers in his eyes and then ground and pounded him. Needless to say I wish I knew these skills back then.
Back to short hair and Gracie Jijitsu.
None of these moves would have helped for that situation.
Elbow crusher would have been your go to in that case.
@MMA TRAINER Damn! That’s crazy.
@COMBAT TRAINER wow.... that's very sad
I never seen men use another man's hair in a fight. You would lose a lot of cool points in America but I guess they would.

Sorry but even a 5’2 boy can take you out because men are physically stronger, if you’re also lifting weight you have a bigger chance of surviving
@MMA TRAINER how do u make bones harder conditioning is one thing but hardening the bone ???
Same here and I'm also 5'2

This information is not only important... Nowadays it is ESSENTIAL. As a Brazilian whose wife had been attacked before, though she used her martial arts knowledge to send that monster to the ER , I have not enough words for thanking you for sharing this !
I'm a woman in Australia (Sydney) I need a women's program like this. It's all for kids and men here. There's no culture established for women's self defence. Especially for survivors of Sexual abuse or PTSD (mastering BJJ Gracie style, would make us feel truly safe? Something that was ripped from us) what you are doing is fantastic.

Yoooo I can tell how effective this is because of how much he has to tap out
This is just acting.real situations are more quite and brutal.
@@franksu3420 It's not acting. They're applying pressure expecting the tap. It's how you train. You want to know what that pain feels like if you're being submitted. If you're doing the submission, you want to know exactly where to hold and how to press so that you can do the technique properly. It's controlled with respect for your partner, but it's real pain. Try it sometime before you start extolling your expertise from behind the keyboard.
Please Take a look of CCTV recording to see real fighting situations.
@@kma3647 In a fight, I can guarantee you will get hit. If you are not conditioned to getting punched in the face, you will freeze up in a fight.
There's a reason why Mike Tyson said everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.
My daughter's 4 years old... I have taught her a little jitsu... however when she's older I want her to be as good as eve
I love that he's a tall muscular guy showing these moves so you can really see how effective it'll be no matter who your attacker is for the most part. I also love that they show how to break your attacker's arm but I worry about what if you break their arm and can't prove that it was in self defense because they weren't able to sexually assault you?
Don't worry about that, as long as you are alive. They will check your history of violence and the attackers, it would be an incredibly dumb judge to think a woman can just approach a man and break his arm just for fun. A lady in Australia was raped and murdered, the guy had over 50 rapes against his name... not sure if they let him out again but there is generally a history....
@@cyncin1163 kinda scary if you end up being the first victim
Trust me, break their fucking arm. Do as much damage as possible. Then go to the police and report everything. As a woman who experienced brutal assault by a rapist, and has had many other female friends assaulted, raped, bashed, attempted murdered and one murdered, I'm telling you, DO AS MUCH DAMAGE AS YOU CAN. MAKE THE ATTACKER NEVER ATTACK AGAIN. Because if they think they can get away with it, they will absolutely try it again with another woman.
He lets her do that. It wouldn't work nearly as well if he resisted. Fighting a guy twice your weight is pretty much hopeless.
A small guy can control both of your arms with one of his and get your grip off his body whenever he wants. A large guy can simply stand up with you on top of him and throw you across the room.
BJJ is legit, but it doesn't allow you to beat someone way larger.
@@MrCmon113 I mean, idk. I'm sure we've all seen the video of the woman submitting the army dude in fatigues. I think that a well-trained female could defend herself against an untrained male assailant fairly well. But idk. I guess it depends. And you have to keep in mind as far as I can tell, most of these sexual predators are cowards and not trained fighters or something.
Ah, the power of being underestimated by an attacker! :)
Eve & Rener, you are so charismatic and humble, it always a pleasure to see you guys working together.

I'm starting to feel like Ju-jitsu is the Uno Reverse card of self defense.

Thank you for sharing these techniques with us. I’ve been assaulted in my life and I never want to have to be victimized again. With your help… I won’t be. Keep up the great work!
Good video ! Not trolling, but I've noticed when women get into fights with each other they often quickly resort to the hair grab and attempt to use it to control their opponent. Often it will end in a stalemate as both combatants have a handful of each other's hair.
True
Its the same with ear
If u grab smby hair u have strong grip

I already watched a few of your video's about self-defence and I just want to say thank you so so much for sharing this ♥️ I'm glad I got to learn all this for whenever I go out or just go somewhere in general. You never know what could happen, and this helps me a lot with keeping my guard up and knowing what to do in uncomfortable/dangerous situations. Thank you, guys!
Its NEVER wrong when it somes to survival! Perfect! Thank you
Disclaimer: I am not practicing any martial art (it has been some time); I am amazed at the science of GJJ. I do not know if any martial art available with such concrete fundamentals. Even though I am a gent, I am learning so much in this post about practical self-defense and wish to send forward this to my wife.
Jiu-jitsu is definitely the truth and it's EXCELLENT for women. It does take a bit to learn and apply it effectively, but since you can safely go full strength during sparring, you really get a good grasp of how it would feel in real life, which only helps as you learn.
Thank you so much for these tips!
Once I had a situation when a man drugged me around by the hair and beaten up, so I ended up cutting it short for years... now learning jiu-jitsu helps me to stop being constantly frightened. And growing hair...
This is excellent! I've been watching a lot of self defense videos recently, and this is the first one I've seen that goes through all the things that you would instinctively do whilst trying to defend yourself (which are often detrimental) and shows you exactly why these things don't work, and what you should do, in an easy to understand (and more importantly, follow) way. Thank you so much!
This is so, so needed! Thank you Gracie family!
I had to teach my daughters defense against hair grabbing. ELBOW CONTROL, LIFTING UP TO A HEAD AND ARM TO A DARTH CHOKE. Very efficient, and effective from the neutral position/ standing.
Imagining being an attacker, that "choke" would only turn me on.
@@MrCmon113 For less than 6 seconds.
@Taxtro completely inappropriate. No one wants to know your personal kinks in a public forum about self defense. Gross.
@@MrCmon113 oh so you're actually a rapist, had a hunch since you kept talking about how no technique works and the victim should just accept the assault. Now in this thread you said it arouses you
Seeing Eve with so much focus while her hair is pulled and fake punches is just amazing! You have a strong focus.
I've luckily never been attacked but just watching this makes me uncomfortable to think anybody would ever have to use it.
You guys are awesome, a sincere thank you for sharing your knowledge for free, I know this will save women from ever being traumatized by monsters like that.
The bit you missed out when she grabs the arm and the guy's head, is that by controlling the gripping hand and at the same time grabbing behind the guy's head means she now has extra leverage by controlling his neck and therefore increases the opportunity to over balance the attacker. Essentially reversing the control the man had over her when he grabbed her air. Anyway, just a thought/observation.
I was thinking the same thing! There’s no one way to respond in the situation but the ground is my last resort. I would first put him on the ground. His instinct would be to release the hair to break his fall, then he is at your mercy or you get a head start on escape. I had an experience where I had to use my skills and I can tell you he stopped right away once he saw he didn’t have control. Game over and I didn’t even have to hurt him. 💪
What an amazing couple.
NEVER ALLOW anyone who you don't know to approach you closely enough to be able to grab or physically restrain you!!!
You ALWAYS HAVE PERMISSION to injure a stranger if necessary so you can GET AWAY...
ESCAPE FROM...
LEAVE THE INDIVIDUAL..
THEN go and get to a public, populated place/area & get help!!!
Great Job both!! Thanks for sharing

........ very well presented young man and young lady , you performed real life events ..... thank you very much for this work you do ........
Thanks for great video. Well done. That info is priceless.
I love that you can turn a grab into an opportunity. This channel is helping people to close the distance in hand to hand combat. Even with a weapon you must sometimes close the distance sometimes to survive and only physical fitness and training can solve that problem. A can of mace can also work wonders.
In her spare time this woman goes back in time to hunt down Jack The ripper.
Thank you for sharing these videos it’s helping me have confidence 😊
I had been assaulted by men many times and I had into mixed martial arts. In real cases, I forgot all those techniques. Moreover when I was shocked and my only thought was survival. I had only wanted to escape and free. Thus it became free-style-whatever. But knowing all of this is not a waste. It can build your confidence and persistence. So I think unless you learn into it until you become an expert and the moves become the second nature of you, it will be relatively same in real case. But I don't want to discourage you. Perhaps it is just me. But keep knowing/learning. You never knew when it will be needed. Even your own family can really hurt you so be prepared anytime
you're right. depends on the teacher. you have to get to the point it's paet of you not something you think about. keep training, you can do it
Wow..you two are so smart. Thank you!!
Thank you so much for this! Wishing you many blessings 🙏🏼!
These are so good to know, and for anyone, really. It raises your chances a lot. What raises them even higher is knowing these while having an EDC (everyday carry). For some, that's a stun gun. For others it's a knife and pepper spray. In my humble opinion, the best is a semiauto pistol, pepper spray, and a knife. If someone is threatening your life and is aggressively approaching you, you use that pistol, and you use it with purpose. If someone hit you, kicked you, or is otherwise trying to hurt you from a small distance, whip that pepper spray out and spray them in the face. if you're grapping with someone, use these techniques. If, for some reason, your attacker is extremely skilled at grappling and you cannot utilize these techniques to get them off of you, draw the knife and go for arteries. It'll be a horrible experience, and you're going to get covered in blood, but the alternatives are much worse. Only use deadly force when you fear for your life. Only use deadly force if your life is directly on the line. Never use deadly force when there's only an altercation, or otherwise you are in danger of being hurt or injured but your life is not on the line. It's hard to know, sometimes. The most important thing to do is to not panic. Situational awareness is your best tool for survival. Also, learn grappling like what's in the video. Get good at it.
I love this video..thank you guys for everything that you do! Much love from Alaska
I love Alaska, I want to eat salmon and fight bears too :C
+Joao Fernandes me too, Alask is hot.
+jcyt0511 Depending on the bears breed, all you have to do is punch it in the nose, pretend to be dead or poke the bears eyes with you're thumbs. However, if it is a mother you are quite dead my friend. I wouldn't want you to blind, or put a mother bear in danger.
+dani freeman don't threaten me with a good time ;)
+dani freeman even though Alaska has the highest ratio of men to women in the United States, they also have the highest rate of chlamydia as well..so it's definitely slim pickins

As a single parent I’ve made sure my daughter and myself r Learning self-defense it does take some time but it’s worth it. Because when she goes to school or anywhere people from grade school middle school high school where ever have no respect and are predatorial and bullies. I want her to use this as defending herself last resort if ever needed. I want her to know and have this in her arsenal same for myself.
Growing up my father also wanted me to know how to defend myself so he tried teaching me how to box but my mother was one who sort of frowned upon it I did learn something but not much because of this.
Now it’s a different story
Excellent stuff thank you. 👍👌💜
Top work you two!
Good demonstration, they work well together.
I was beaten badly when I was 16. I'm 35 now. I was poor and only had the library. It was enough. I taught myself, which I know is frowned upon by all martial arts, self defense. Everything I do I've use in real fights. People tend to pick on me because I'm nice. Just want to throw out here that I actually promote walking and even running, however if I am threatened or I feel my life is in danger I will not hesitate to neutralize that situation. Anyhow, JKD was the most effective or what people call mma. Names really don't matter to me. If it can save my life, I will use, but only if it's not fake in nature. Bjj, boxing, and a lot of drills and traps for jkd, silat hand to knife. These are the most effective. I became confident and I don't have trauma anymore. I did however become puzzled and have been looking for a way to show my niece how to defend herself from a bully because she was a victim of it a year or so ago. I could not for the life of me think of a proper way. This video will definitely show her how. So, thank you guys.
It's funny, people have never picked on me, and I'm also nice person. It's funny how that works.
THANK YOU!

Grabbed by the hair is painful!
In a real attack - the moment she hooked her arm round his head my knee would be going straight into his groin. Obvs that isn’t BJJ but in a real self defence I’d have zero hesitation. I’d keep kneeing till he let go. Stamp on his toes. Put my foot down his shin. Whatever it takes to protect myself in a street attack!!
Great video though. Thanks. Super useful. I hope this is never needed 💪🏻💪🏻
You guys are awesome
Very nice videos. Keep it up.

Fantastic information. Every woman should learn this. As this can happen to anyone. It doesn't have to be in the night or some dogy place. I managed to talk my way out of a situation. It was lunch time in a shopping carpark. So if you have the opportunity to learn go and learn.
I train in Brazilian jujitsu I will be a brown belt soon and my bf has his red bar black belt he's trained for 8 years and we train 5 days a week and he gives me real life experience scenario when training and I've learned alot , I love how after training for a year I've learned so much that no matter what you'd think you won't remember you will.
In 1989 I was walking to the shop from my sponsors home in Rhiyadh. Daytime. Car suddenly drove near me. Arab man pulled my ponytail while the car was slowing. Had I not been wearing rubber shoes and kept my balance to yank my hair out...I may not be alive today. Pls teach us how to get out of this safely.
Awesome! I will teach these methods keep up the great work thx.
At 8:23.. add a knee to the groin to make everything easier. Also she can bite the ear or the side of the neck. The right arm thats behind the attackers head can be used to slam his nose into your shoulder then turn counterclockwise for the takedown into mount position.. (in my style we call it fighting with poison. Subtle or smaller ways to inflict damage which makes the larger more damaging attacks easier to do)
Rener you are an absolute jewel of our sport.....
75% of girls watches make-up tutorials 25% of girls watch self defending
BradleyDoet and 99 procent cant defenend herself because they dont train
some watch both, myself included
I like how Retired and former UFC Middleweight top 10 fighter Tim Kennedy and current Green Beret teaches. He teaches BJJ but he also teaches Eyes as a target because it is a street fight and not jujitsu or MMA. KICK bastard in testicles do Judo Simi Gaeshi throw and end up in Mount Position. Then elbow in the face and shove fingers in eyes.
Marco mark Lol that is the truth. Let’s be honest, not many will put in the training to actually practice and learn these techniques. I practice thaiboxing, have only tried BJJ and it takes a lot of time to be able to remember this in a “real” situation, it is not something you will learn on a weekend seminar and be done with it. My BJJ is still shit. But it is really effective!
So this will not work for the majority of girls
